'Breaking' - Transgender rapist won’t be imprisoned in Scotland’s all-women jail, Nicola Sturgeon tells MSPs

Excellent news.

And Sturgeon has really shot herself in the foot here (again). Because if she really thinks 'trans women are women', why is she not allowing this 'woman' to go to a female prison?

So therefore she knows this person is not a woman.

So therefore she is being transphobic...

From the sun article:

“Annie said college lecturers were also misgendering them, and that they needed to protect themselves.”

Presumably that would be college lecturers on the beauty course they were on, that also required the students to be semi-undressed in front of "Annie" and told them of for complaining. Despite all of that he still felt unsafe and victimised. It is never ever going to be enough.

Lolapusht · 02/02/2023 17:22

Misgendering = literal violence dontcha know. Scary thing is, he would probably have felt justified in physically attacking someone who misgendered him as he seems to have totally bought the victim hood that sometimes goes with being trans.

Would they have been able to exclude under EA if he had a GRC following the Haldane judgement? There was some very interesting footage from the HoCC from Naomi Cunningham and Michael Foran. It seems to be a very technical debate (apart from Lord Falconer who doesn’t seem to have a basic grasp of discrimination legislation) which I’ll need to spend a bit of time watching so I can get things straight in my head.

It's pretty obvious from looking at "Isla", that he would have no problem taking on a couple of other blokes if he had to (not that anyone is likely to try to molest him).

It was particularly disturbing that he apparently said that women on the beauty course were misgendering him, and he needed to be able to defend himself. Who needs physically aggressive techniques to cope with "misgendering"?

Thank heavens Alan Bell, who runs the courses at the Scottish Centre for Personal Safety refused him entry following their robust screening process. Mr Bell is obviously a very professional trainer who takes the job of protecting women, and teaching them how to protect themselves, very seriously.

It is ridiculous that a screening process should even be necessary to exclude men from these courses, but Mr Bell obviously thought ahead to the possibility that this might happen, and wisely put one into place.

Thank you, Mr Bell. I wish our politicians had even half of your sense, courage, and integrity

Thank you so much Mr. Bell, you are obviously a decent man and made a sensible decision, the right decision, such professionalism which is sadly lacking these days. The personal safety course at the Scottish Centre is where I would have no qualms in attending. Unfortunately I am many miles away and do not feel safe at local venues, due to there being mixed sex when you expect it to be female only.

Emotionalsupportviper · 02/02/2023 19:19

This article in the Spectator shows how cowed the media is - hopefully now that "Isla" has stirred things up they will get the courage to be more open.

This article is about the sudden death of a drag queen who was also a child rapist. Guess which part of this "social butterfly's* life wasn't mentioned?

MichelleScarn · 02/02/2023 19:30

Absolutely agree Thank You Alan Bell! I would definitely travel across Scotland to attend his course rather than the pretty crap stuff we get at work!

Local to me a person has just appeared in Court charged with the abduction of a child (now thankfully safe). This person, who was born male & has lived as such for many decades, wished to be referred to only as a female name & became aggressive re this. The Police & Court appear to have primarily referred to the person as a he (as well as referencing the female persona). I hope its OK to post this as its not specific or speculative in any way (all info is in national media as I type).
I am posting it as I thought it was interesting given the current climate in Scotland. If MNHQ feel that it is unhelpful then please remove my post.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 09/02/2023 19:56

this is very welcome to prison staff.

Refreshing - and hopeful - that the court referred to him using the correct sex.

" So therefore she knows this person is not a woman.

No, the person has been identified by sturgeon as being an " individual ", that still falls within the parameters of being trans, as far as she's concerned, probably!

As for Tiffany, it's not that long since that one would quite possibly have been on the receiving end of Mr Pierrepoints' work, never mind hoping for a cushy number doing his porridge in a womans prison! I have to say, i'd lose no sleep whatsoever if that were still the case, tbh.

"Scotland’s prison service has abandoned Nicola Sturgeon’s self-identification policy, announcing that it would base decisions on where to send new prisoners entirely on their biological sex"

Newly convicted prisoners will go to prisons matching their biological sex.

But

"While it is still possible that a trans woman would be sent from a male to female jail following a risk assessment, the SPS said it would place greater emphasis on a criminal’s “previous offending history”."

I wonder what offending history applies? Rapist, no...? Domestic violence, yes? Paedophile, yes...?

Will we ever be told?

And what happens when they leave prison? Back to changing rooms and toilets ...?

TrashyPanda · 09/02/2023 23:43

BBC report here,

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-64586523

unfortunately, gender is used rather than sex.
lt has a photo from todays meeting outside Scottish Parliament, but there is no mention of this in the text!

The risk assessment won't include what makes women feel safe and what women want will it? Otherwise men would just stay in men's prisons

zanahoria · 10/02/2023 08:46

There are flaws here but it is decisive action by the SPS while the Parliament dilly dallies with a review about why sending rapists to women's prisons may be a bad idea.

Discussion in the last few minutes of the Today programme right now.

Love how the BBC wedge these discussions into the last few minutes of a programme. It allows trans extremists to make anti women / anti safeguarding statements without challenge & ensures that the real issues are never mentioned but they can claim to have covered the issue on this date etc etc.

nilsmousehammer · 10/02/2023 09:59

One of the several strategies in the BBC Dirty Tricks Play Book, to exert political bias as they wish, while dodging the regulations binding them.

While mugging the general public to pay for their private political campaigns. It's been a long time since they should have lost the licence fee.

borntobequiet · 10/02/2023 10:51

Agree with the sneaky tactics used by the BBC. The interview however was very good and featured the wonderful Rhona Hotchkiss.

I'd imagine it would focus on whether the TW is at risk of male rape in a man's prison.
But haven't some men always been at risk of prison rape?

I mean thats not a new thing is it.

nilsmousehammer · 10/02/2023 16:32

Considering according to the rhetoric it's seen as an acceptable thing that women should just shrug about, and get told 'well if they're determined to rape you they will' it seems odd that there's a different response to males?

But putting the sociopathic rhetoric aside, there are multiple ways to protect vulnerable male prisoners. And if they are insufficient, then it's time to change and update the facilities, or add T wings or specific prisons.

Just passing the rape risk on to women is only a solution if you see women as less human than men. And continue to see men as men with their higher privilege and humanity even while politely pretending otherwise.

How long before we get a prison rape pregnancy,? That story about the woman in Scotland having to go on the coil when a prisoner was abhorrent.

There have been several in the US.

I think I read somewhere that even in the UK oral contraceptives/ IUDs were being made available, but I may be mistaken about this, (And even if correct, doesn't protect against STDs)
