Continuation of Thread 2.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

Ah, just read the Epsom headteacher’s husband killed the three of them. It was my first instinct anyway when the news broke, and I bet many of you as well.

Yes, horrible horrible news Sad

We all knew it would be the husband.

Why do they have to be so Fucking selfish. Kill yourself, fine, but leave the wife and children out of it, you self centred arsehole.

StephanieSuperpowers · 07/02/2023 18:18

Yeah, we all knew it was him. There's a curious pressure to pretend that it could be almost anything else, like a gas leak or a monster from Scooby Doo.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/02/2023 18:50

There's something on WOS, that thing that never happens may have happened again in Galashiels. The child is safe at least.

BBC: A 53-year-old man has been arrested over the disappearance of an 11-year-old girl who was later found in the Scottish Borders.

WoS: There seems to be no doubt that the man arrested in connection with xxxxxx's disappearance has been openly "living as a woman" for at least six years now. This would require Police Scotland to interview him as a woman, under his female name.

IcakethereforeIam · 07/02/2023 22:59

I don't get this, the offence was reported in October 2019, but he's only just been charged. The Met., again!

Is it the new broom? If Cressida was still there would anything have been done?

Waitwhat23 · 07/02/2023 23:24

Looks like Police Scotland are starting to rebel by referring to him as a man, rather than a woman -

God, having to look to the Torygraph for the truth, after all the shit they've sold us, Boris Johnson and Brexit for a start. But it doesn't mean they are wrong here, and makes the cowardice of most of the 'liberal' press all the more discipable.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 08/02/2023 02:29

I read somewhere, may even have been here but possibly an article in a publication that I can no longer remember and when I was reading I had a lightbulb moment of "Of course! Yes, you're right!" it was about Stonewall and how full of T they've become in the last decade. The position was that Stonewall was on the verge of redundancy because we have come so bloody far with gay rights - thankfully - so what was there for them to fight for any longer. Personally, I'd love to be part of an organisation that lobbied and lobbied and fought hard and got nearly everything that we needed making me redundant. It would mean I'd succeeded and that people's lives were better because of that. Clearly, Stonewall decided that they needed another project and along came trans rights and they lapped that shit up. They should really have the courage to acknowledge that they no longer stand for the LGB and that it's all about the T. I'd go further and say that they have totally let down the L by being part of the groups that tell young women that the feelings they have must mean that they're a man when we know that a large number, the majority of young FTM would go on to be simply lesbians if medicalisation of their very real mental health issues were dealt with correctly.

Pink News can fuck right off as well.

I'm terribly sweary in these wee small hours.

Exactly.

And then to get scolded for "Bad Media etc" by the Righteous, if you attempted to discuss it.

Indeed. The Radical Notion thread, and the Discussion of the Radical Notion Thread thread are both interesting and depressing.

Back to the Epsom College murders. I can't shake off the comment made by a former (female) colleague of Emma Pattison who said "As a woman no matter how successful you are, you are only as safe as your male partner allows you to be". It made my blood run cold.

A more cynical suggestion on the Twitters last night was that they might try just calling all of these offenders men for a while to deflect attention from Sturgeon not knowing whether or not they're faking it.

Though I am not sure for how long either side would let that go unchallenged....

duc748 · 08/02/2023 12:02

Dispicable. That's the word. When it's spelt right, anyway. 🙄

MissLawls · 08/02/2023 12:32

Show me a charity that says, it's all done now. Nothing further to do. Thanks for all the funds and the support and we're off... never EVER happens!

It's a business, not a charity. I read somewhere that what starts as a charity, becomes a business, ends up as a racket. I've worked for several charities and they always always say Things Are Getting Much Worse. GIVE US YOUR FOOKING MONEY!!! They run surveys to prove How Much Worse Things Are Getting and get good press off it. No one wants a story saying how much better things are!

Charities are a £££ business. It's all about the money with many of them. Some smaller ones may remain committed to the cause but once they get past a certain size it becomes about income, jobs, status. They have CEOs - when did THAT happen!?

UnfortunatePoster · 08/02/2023 12:51

Purely anecdotally, the FTM I know well enough say that they are actually gay men, as they are attracted to men but ARE men (their view, not mine). The last local pride event my son went to with a friend of his (FTM) and a bunch of the friend’s mates from college - also mostly FTM. Son is gay, and complained too me afterwards how annoying he found it that they were all behaving as if they had the smallest clue what it’s like growing up as an out gay boy (he came out early in year 8).

Needless to say he only talks about his gender critical views to me, wouldn’t dare to any friends.

I am watching zelenskys address. Such a shocking situation and excellent speech but when I watched the crowd I just thought how many men. How are lives are so intrinsically linked to the whims of these powerful men, and how dependent we are on our strong brave men to fight for freedom. Not saying women can’t fight but let’s be honest the majority of armed forces are men as women often stay to look after the children.

But we can have more women standing in that room. How can we get more women into power. I am not saying women are flawless but I do believe our tendency to massacre individuals or whole countries is less. How can we lift other women up and shift this disbalance. Not just in the U.K. but across the globe.

I don’t have an answer but Wednesday thoughts

duc748 · 08/02/2023 14:32

Presumably Labour assume that many women will hold their noses and vote for them anyway. Unless their bloody focus groups tell them different. So tone deaf, though.

I do wonder if that is what Kier is thinking that we will just go along with it because Labour good Conservative bad.

Not this woman Kier, I've definitely reached the point where I'll vote Tory to keep Labour out.

I've never done before, I've always voted Labour, even when not impressed with some of what they are doing. However I am a one issue voter this time.

StephanieSuperpowers · 08/02/2023 14:51

I think the time has come where women don't really have a choice but to be single issue voters. If women decide that the economy is more important right now and deprioritise this issue, where does that leave us? It leaves women with nothing but the task of rebuilding our whole identity and infrastructure. The men aren't coming to help, they just won't. As a group, with excellent exceptions, they just don't care about women and therefore can't understand women. Even many of the nice ones.

duc748 · 08/02/2023 18:02

I agree, Steph. I've said before I won't vote Labour whilst they have this policy, despite the fact I believe a Lab govt is needed. I'm not prepared to vote Tory, though. Still, Keir, 40 million American women (was it?) voted for the pussy-grabber, so you might be in luck, eh?

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 09/02/2023 00:10

I won't vote Labour but I cannot and will not ever vote Tory.

NotDrowningJustCrowing · 09/02/2023 00:11

I think I'll spoil my ballot. Probably with: WOMAN - ADULT HUMAN FEMALE. None of the above.
