Blanchard was never discredited. The TRAs dislike him because he accurately describes the behaviour of a large (majority) of men. They can claim he is disputed (by them, without evidence) but Mumsnet should never have banned the term. If they still have issue then we will simply quote the Daily Telegraph 23/01/23 - unless we are getting into the game of censoring main stream media too.

It is just easier to say that among men of any identity whatsoever, including those with a trans identity, there will inevitably be a small minority who are perverts.

I think that it's because it used to be common knowledge that cross-dressing is a paraphilia for some men, and that paraphiliacs are often dangerous to women. But there's been a very successful propaganda campaign to rebrand that truth as a bigoted stereotype, so it's become blasphemous against the dominant corporate/state religion to say it. Even us nonbelievers have to do little rituals to avoid getting in trouble for blasphemy.

So you have to pretend that it's absolutely unthinkable that a transwoman would be a pervert. Even though clearly some of them are.

I've just read the entire article in the opening post without having to sign up or go to an archive site. I can read the comments too, I don't think that has happened for about 10 years.

The notion that the group of "trans people" could never contain any people with bad intentions, bad intentions that have been acted on, or such people who would use the lifting of the need for a diagnosis as a way of accessing children and vulnerable women has always been insane.

There are no groups that are pure. None. And when you consider that:

I think you must be right that it is now a precautionary ritual. I suppose is just as well to be exaggeratedly careful.

Since men who aren't transwomen are a known threat to women and girls, as evidenced by crime statistics of sexual offences (at least 95% of which are committed by men) and since we know that transwomen retain the same patterns of offending as males, why is it so unthinkable that a transwoman would be a pervert against whom women and girls might want to take defensive precautions? If you see a gun, do you automatically assume it's one of the good guys with a gun or are you a bit careful until you find out one way or the other? Ditto with possessors of a penis.

It can help though, when speaking to people new to the whole row. This way they can still Be Kind in their minds while it’s being explained to them that this aspect of the debate is about safeguarding from predatory men, and then work out the rest later.
