'Stewart McDonald, Kirsten Oswald, Kaukab Stewart and Alison Thewliss were at the Glasgow protest to support the trans community and stand up for Scotland's democracy.'

That's them standing in front of a sign that says 'decapitate terfs'.

Again, I'm genuinely fucking shocked. This inflammatory, violent rhetoric is not acceptable.

He's such a sweet wee lad isn't he

Waitwhat23 · 23/01/2023 21:09

And Sturgeon's mealy mouthed take on the signs which called for women's violent deaths -

The FM said that she outright condemns the message in the placards, and defended the SNP politicians who were photographed with it in the background.

She told journalists: "I think all politicians have an obligation to contribute to debate that is civil and respectful, and that's a responsibility I take seriously and would expect all members of my government and all elected members of my party to take seriously as well.

"That said, and I've attended many demonstrations over my many years in politics now, and probably on all of them I've seen placards or signs that would not align with my views on the topic of the demonstration and certainly from the images I have seen that was the case at the demonstration on trans rights on Saturday.

The placards that I have seen in no way, absolutely no way shape or form accord with my views, and I would condemn the way in which those views were expressed and the views that were expressed there.

"I don't think it is fair or credible to suggest that the elected representatives who were there in any way share or condone those views."

The FM added that there are generally numerous views represented at political rallies, not all of which attendees would agree with.

She added: "I've seen images over the last couple of weeks from demonstrations against the gender recognition reform bill outside parliament, where there have been placards, signs, that I've seen certainly seen images on social media about me that were offensive and in my view, although I’m subjective about these things perhaps, that they were completely unacceptable.

OH FUCK OFF NICOLA

On the other hand…

The FM added that there are generally numerous views represented at political rallies, not all of which attendees would agree with.

Remarkably, we can now quote Nicola (certainly not ‘right wing’) as an authority for the next time we see that crap about who turns up at women’s rallies and who speaks to who!

nilsmousehammer · 23/01/2023 23:03

"I don't think it is fair or credible to suggest that the elected representatives who were there in any way share or condone those views."

I don't think that argument would work for any childcare professional, HCP or police officer there in an official capacity, on the grounds that their job lent their official credibility to those views and brought the represented body into disrepute. Getting very, very tired of the country being governed by those who get away with behaviour that isn't acceptable or without consequence in low paid basic public service roles, and apparently are fine with their really quite exceptionally low standards.

TheGreatATuin · 24/01/2023 06:52

"I don't think it is fair or credible to suggest that the elected representatives who were there in any way share or condone those views."
It's extremely credible. What exactly was the march about in the first place?
Those of us who oppose the GRA do so precisely because those are the views that are being enabled and made acceptable, and it's the SNP who is pushing it through
And if its true that the banner was made by the same person who got an ovation in parliament from the same people now claiming its not credible that they share those views, then some serious questions need to be answered.

ResisterRex · 24/01/2023 07:00

"I don't think it is fair or credible to suggest that the elected representatives who were there in any way share or condone those views."

This is not credible. They were not a counter protest or a breakaway group. They were in the protest. Just like the sign saying "no TERFs allowed" from 2018 with the FM marching in front:

The 'just a joke' defence again.

But none calling for murder and other violence, Nicola, so not even remotely comparable. Also, you didn't give an example of what was hateful, mainly because you can't do so credibly.

DerekFaker · 24/01/2023 09:08

Wtf, MNHQ?????

Ereshkigalangcleg · 24/01/2023 09:21

@DerekFaker

Maybe because it isn't yet confirmed that he is the same man? Also there possibly may be an ongoing court case involving that other man, probably best not to speculate here. I think the Scottish police have been given this information.

DerekFaker · 24/01/2023 10:44

Ah, right.

EvelynBeatrice · 24/01/2023 11:36

It's an interesting thought experiment to compare the muted reactions to such signs in terms of legal action and political and public outrage with what would have happened if the sign had referenced decapitation of a different group - people of a particular race or colour perhaps. The only explicable reason for such a difference in reaction is misogyny.

NorthernLights2023 · 24/01/2023 12:12

Same. My family escaped a genocide in the 1920s. It's absolutely sick that only the Tories of all people have roundly condemned it.

I'm not middle aged - just a lesbian who won't pretend to be bisexual or straight to please these men.

EsmaCannonball · 24/01/2023 12:59

I guess that naming him isn't being allowed on here, but if you go over to Twitter and look up the man holding the 'Decapitate Terfs' sign then it all becomes even more sinister. Further proof that violent, women-hating men are being drawn to transgenderism in order to be their authentically violent, women-hating selves. I really hope the police are taking steps here.

EasterIsland · 24/01/2023 14:08

Yes @EsmaCannonball if some people have joined the dots correctly, it is extremely worrying. Dennis Kavanaugh's comments are interesting - he's a criminal barrister and his opinion carries weight with me.

ArcaneWireless · 24/01/2023 16:05

And certain parties seem to be condoning threats of decapitation because it is a man being hateful to women. The right kind of hate…

Can you just imagine if a woman was being so hateful? You know. Like putting up a sticker with three colours on it or something.

I think many of us could see where this was headed. You can’t silence women and give men free rein without harm.

And if people vote for it it’ll likely get worse.

DerekFaker · 24/01/2023 20:44

Someone has heard back from the police.

NorthernLights2023 · 25/01/2023 01:03

I’m not in Scotland but tempted to put in a complaint to the police about it anyway. Especially since I know as lesbians we are being put in danger by people calling for us to be decapitated.
