When trans rights trumps children's safety

This story has come about in my local area:

An elderly man spotted wearing a girl’s school uniform near a Leigh secondary school and on a bus “does not pose a risk”, according to police who have urged the public to stop sharing photos of him.

uk.news.yahoo.com/police-man-seen-outside-leigh-163212326.html

This old man is riding school buses and hanging around schools in full girl's uniform and bad wig.

Apparently the schools have had to arrange special assemblies to brief children not to travel alone.

But police don't want anyone to share images of this man online and he has told them that he is not a risk.

He's clearly not trans, but I fear that the police are so scared of the subject that they're allowing this behaviour to continue.

Wouldn't surprise me to learn he was a serving police officer

Wouldn't surprise at all. Likewise retired judge, politician etc.

To people saying he's mentally ill and vulnerable, I'm not doubting that but equally he could be satisfying his sexual fetishes. He had the bold awareness to buy the uniform by falsely pretending it was for his granddaughter showing his understanding of what he is doing is wrong.

MichelleScarn · 20/01/2023 09:24

Is he mentally ill or are people just saying that? According to the local newspaper online comments from people stating they are family he doesn't have any diagnosis I'm sure I've read!

BlackForestCake · 20/01/2023 09:26

Depends whether being a dirty bastard with no sense of shame is classed as mentally ill.

Not denying for one second that this wouldn’t be alarming and something ought to be done about it, but lots of people are jumping to the conclusion that this man is getting sexual thrills out of this. That’s not necessarily the case. He’s mentally ill and vulnerable, and steps should be taken to protect him and address understandable local community concern.

What mental illness causes you to lie about buying school uniform for your granddaughter to wear yourself and hang around at bus stops and board school buses wearing it (along with a bad wig tied in a pony tail)?

BordoisAgain · 20/01/2023 09:44

Clymene · 19/01/2023 21:09

And I'd like to remind Essex police that any man getting a sexual thrill from dressing inappropriately in public is involving everyone around him in his fetish.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to tell us that we are just Pearl clutching prudes who have rubbish sex, just like they were on the "furries in ikea" thread from the other day.

Clymene · 20/01/2023 09:55

DominoBlue · 19/01/2023 22:50

How on earth is he getting on a school bus? Around here its difficult enough to get a bus pass for a child who is actually entitled to one. There are two pupils who live next door to each other in a semi detached house and only one qualifies for a bus pass and the other has to walk 3 miles to school. Or kids who have moved schools due to unresolved bullying have to find their own way to school. Not even allowed to buy a seat if the bus isn't full. The bus driver needs to refuse to let him on without a valid bus pass.

I love @MMBaranova idea of making a speech from the police steps! Maybe we could all attend and invite the press.

We have 'school buses' here - they only run during school hours but they don't say 'school bus', they have a number and you pay usual fare for them. They are basically a supplement to the normal bus service and are overwhelmingly used by school children but anyone can board them.

I'd imagine that's what this guy is doing.

Don't be ridiculous, it makes you brave and stunning and you need to be celebrated...

Exactly @Clymene but of course like a certain protected group it's all about 'he's the vulnerable one, what can be done to protect him from the big meanies not going along with his wish for people to accept him dressing as primary school girl and trying to get access to the school'.

DarkDayforMN · 20/01/2023 10:13

It won't be a school bus. In an urban area many children won't live 3 miles or more from their school and will catch (and their parents pay for) a normal public service bus to school.

Why don't the bus company ban him? It would be pretty easy to tell their drivers not to let him on; they don't need to wait for him to actually assault someone, do they?

Ideally the bus company / companies would ban him but I'm not sure they could, legally.

You'd have to ask a lawyer familiar with the subject.

QuinnLovesEris · 20/01/2023 10:45

He needs to be either arrested or sectioned.

www.eadt.co.uk/news/21295745.asbo-imposed-83-year-old/

This similar (minus the uniform dress up) case show how it was dealt with back in 2007. Before police forces had been stonewall indoctrinated trained. I think ASBOs have been replaced by other measures in England at least but why are we supposed to now turn a blind eye to this behaviour?

Manteiga · 20/01/2023 12:51

Very similar case, resulting in an ASBO:

Lots of “beee kiiiind” on this thread! If a man says he’s a schoolgirl/ a unicorn / not a risk etc, then obviously he is a schoolgirl/ a unicorn / not a risk etc.

Be silent, women. Know your place. Defer to men. Etc.

Chersfrozenface · 20/01/2023 13:07

Manteiga · 20/01/2023 12:51

But of course ASBO's no longer exist outside Scotland.

They were replaced, to an extent anyway, by injunctions, civil orders which one imagines are costly, and criminal behaviour orders, which can only follow a conviction. So naff all use, basically.

Ofcourseshecan · 20/01/2023 13:10

Elmo230885 · 19/01/2023 17:33

First poster beat me to it. The article and the man in question have nothing to do with trans rights or children's rights. You've made quite the leap from 'man dresses inappropriately' to 'police rufuse to investigate due to perpetrator being trans'.

Cross-dressing comes under the ‘trans umbrella’, according to Stonewall. So this has everything to do with the rights demanded for trans people.

We have Community Protection Notices nowadays - I don't know the difference. Plus broad public order, public decency offences that seem to let the coppers shoo people away when they feel like it. They're probably waiting for one of the dad's to clock him so they can chalk up a solved hate crime.

www.stonewall.org.uk/transforming-futures-faqs
‘Trans’ is an umbrella term for people whose gender is not the same as, or does not sit comfortably with, the sex they were assigned at birth. This includes people who may describe themselves using one or more of a wide variety of terms, including (but not limited to) transgender, transsexual, gender-queer (GQ), gender-fluid, non-binary, gender-variant, crossdresser, genderless, ....

Nowadays our obsession with not to be seen to be discriminatory appears to have eroded all common sense and justice. This protects no one!

toffeecocomars · 20/01/2023 14:04

Terrible, if I knew a man was doing that on a bus with my daughters on it, they wouldn't in hell be getting on that bus I assure you

slamfightbrightlight · 20/01/2023 14:10

I was also going to say this would surely meet the definition of ASB.

Unfortunately, that's completely correct.

Without any legal powers what are the police supposed to do? What laws is he breaking? People can wear what they like and going on the bus isn’t illegal.

Stalking. Loitering with intent. Harassment. Decency laws. GDPR perhaps if he is taking pics with out permission? Intimidation. Public Order.

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 20/01/2023 20:56

I feel if he were dressed in normal attire the police would have no problem dealing with it. Dressed as he is they won’t touch him with a barge pole.

Also sharing photos of people seen acting strangely is usually encouraged to enable the public to know to avoid them.

So true. A ‘normal’ weirdo would be dealt with. A brave pervert in a girl’s uniform is allowed to continue with his perversions. W the total f?
