When trans rights trumps children's safety

This story has come about in my local area:

An elderly man spotted wearing a girl’s school uniform near a Leigh secondary school and on a bus “does not pose a risk”, according to police who have urged the public to stop sharing photos of him.

uk.news.yahoo.com/police-man-seen-outside-leigh-163212326.html

This old man is riding school buses and hanging around schools in full girl's uniform and bad wig.

Apparently the schools have had to arrange special assemblies to brief children not to travel alone.

But police don't want anyone to share images of this man online and he has told them that he is not a risk.

He's clearly not trans, but I fear that the police are so scared of the subject that they're allowing this behaviour to continue.

And I'd like to remind Essex police that any man getting a sexual thrill from dressing inappropriately in public is involving everyone around him in his fetish.

And as those around him are unconsenting, oh AND CHILDREN

WTF are the police thinking?

MichelleScarn · 19/01/2023 22:11

Some of the 'supportive' Facebook comments "he's only experiencing what he feels he missed out on growing up and living the life he wants to lead now, there's nothing wrong with this"....

Boiledbeetle · 19/01/2023 22:14

A grown man purchases various school uniforms, wears them in public on the bus with the school children that actually go to the school of the uniform he's wearing.

Police: nothing to see here move along.

And they wonder why women are losing all faith in the police.

Thesonglastslonger · 19/01/2023 22:15

The police are, generally speaking, extremely ignorant about the detail of the law.

This is the crime of harassment, and stalking. The fact that he’s harassing and stalking a large group (schoolchildren) doesn’t change that it’s an offence, in fact it brings equality act issues into play because age is a protected characteristic and he’s harassing the children on the basis of their age.

The children feel intimidated… It’s the crime of harassment. The police need to stop trembling that the trans activists might get cross with them and just arrest the creep in a wig harassing the kids. Either that, or section him.

Before the local community take matters into their own hands. Which I suspect they will if the police don’t end this.

WhenIAmOldIShallWearPurple · 19/01/2023 22:17

The problem is that dressing up and riding on a bus isn't illegal. The police can have a word and suggest he stays away, which they probably have done, but they can't do anymore. And they have a duty of care to him to ensure he isn't put in danger by people sharing images and provoking a crowd, which is why they have asked that to stop. It sucks but that's the reality.

DarkDayforMN · 19/01/2023 22:29

They've announced he isn't a threat. It's unclear why they think this. If he is a threat, they're actively endangering children by announcing that he isn't. Don't they have a duty of care to schoolgirls to ensure they aren't put in danger? Or does their duty of care only apply to perverts?

MMBaranova · 19/01/2023 22:38

Does an organisation have any control over its uniform in terms of who can wear it? This includes name, logo, etc. as well as colours? Curious to know.

If I obtained the uniform of [your supermarket of choice goes here] and did some rearranging of shelves is that fine?

Could I make a statement on the steps of the Police station, in uniform, about this matter while the press are there? I wouldn’t say I was from the Police, but would just make a statement and refuse any further questions.

DominoBlue · 19/01/2023 22:50

How on earth is he getting on a school bus? Around here its difficult enough to get a bus pass for a child who is actually entitled to one. There are two pupils who live next door to each other in a semi detached house and only one qualifies for a bus pass and the other has to walk 3 miles to school. Or kids who have moved schools due to unresolved bullying have to find their own way to school. Not even allowed to buy a seat if the bus isn't full. The bus driver needs to refuse to let him on without a valid bus pass.

I love @MMBaranova idea of making a speech from the police steps! Maybe we could all attend and invite the press.

IneedanewTV · 19/01/2023 23:00

It’s just not acceptable that a man Is allowed to wear a school girls uniform and hang around where children go. Years ago the police would have stopped this. What has changed?

MichelleScarn · 19/01/2023 23:29

@IneedanewTV the uprising of #behind and #beyourtrueself basically I think!

nocoolnamesleft · 19/01/2023 23:35

Safeguarding fail.

Magenta82 · 20/01/2023 00:23

Even if he isn't a risk to kids (I have my doubts) he is very much a risk to himself.

Someone is going to take the law into their own hands and it won't end well.

It won't be a school bus. In an urban area many children won't live 3 miles or more from their school and will catch (and their parents pay for) a normal public service bus to school. That's what my kids did.

But the bus to the school at particular times in the morning and back in the afternoon will be almost entirely filled with schoolchildren, not general members of the public. Which is obviously the attraction for this... let's just use the word weirdo for now, shall we?

IneedanewTV · 20/01/2023 07:55

Someone will deal with him if the police won’t. That’s why the police need to sort it out.

Flaunch · 20/01/2023 08:09

Without any legal powers what are the police supposed to do? What laws is he breaking? People can wear what they like and going on the bus isn’t illegal.

WimpoleHat · 20/01/2023 08:17

Well put. And, in this case, children…..

unclebuck · 20/01/2023 08:18

Has Felix arrived to tell us that men in school uniforms are innocent until proven guilty and it is the children's discomfort that is the real issue here?

The man in school uniform is an old fashioned pervert, like we had in the 80s. He needs sorting out or his behaviour will escalate. The Police know this, everyone over 40 knows this. When my mum (now 76) was 9 a man started walking past her school in a school uniform. He was arrested immediately. Now the police will wait until he attacks someone, then question and discredit the victim and gaslight them. Fucking absurd.

Meaningofthesea · 19/01/2023 17:32

But the police do seem to have investigated and have spoken to the man involved?

Oh well, he's fine and dandy then. 🤨

A late middle aged man, dressed in a girl's school uniform and hanging around the school...all above board i'm sure!

In old money, we'd just call him a pervert and the police would actually do something about it.
But that 'umbrella' is pretty big, so he's oppressed and vulnerable.

Jesus fucking wept.

This. I live very close to this area and I can not see this ending well. Particularly now it's hit the local news.

mrshoho · 20/01/2023 08:41

I've always been against vigilante action but in the absence of police action here I would understand parents taking it upon themselves to get him away from the school and buses. We don't have to stand by and be forced to accept the normalisation of adult men wearing girls school uniform. If he wants to get his kicks he should take it to an adult club well away from kids.

Outwiththenorm · 20/01/2023 08:42

I wonder what the response would have been if he was hanging around in a boy’s school uniform - short, blazer and cap a la Just William/Krankies. No umbrella to hide under there and I imagine he would have been spoken to more strongly.

oldwhyno · 20/01/2023 08:50

Not denying for one second that this wouldn’t be alarming and something ought to be done about it, but lots of people are jumping to the conclusion that this man is getting sexual thrills out of this. That’s not necessarily the case. He’s mentally ill and vulnerable, and steps should be taken to protect him and address understandable local community concern.

I'd agree that he's causing them fear and harassing them that way. Perhaps the parents should help their kids make complaints, if the Police get inundated with complaints, they'll have to do something.

BlackForestCake · 20/01/2023 09:08

Wouldn't surprise me to learn he was a serving police officer
