Rosie Duffield Support thread

I've searched everywhere for a thread about this amazing and brave MP, but couldn't find one.

Am I missing something? She supports the blocking of the new Scottish GR Bill and was cheered by her own MPs.

She seems an amazing and strong woman, wish she was my MP. I'm going to write and thank her.

I agree! Rosie is amazing!

Parmavi0lets · 18/01/2023 10:36

Yes, 100%. I was also v impressed with what Tonia Antoniazzi and Miriam Cates said, although they don't seem to have attracted quite as much vitriol (perhaps with the exception of Lloyd what's his name).

It's sickening that standing up for women's rights attracts this level of hatred, even from within the HoC.

BTW @mnhq It is becoming virtually impossible to post anything from a phone on here, with the text constantly jumping around, large sections of blank space being inserted, etc.

IcakethereforeIam · 18/01/2023 10:36

She's not my MP, I think she's amazing. I hope I remember correctly, but I think she won the nomination to be the Labour candidate for her seat in the next election. Labour, as they are at the moment, don't deserve her.

TightFistedWozerk · 18/01/2023 10:36

She is very brave. Full of admiration for her.

ArabellaScott · 18/01/2023 10:42

'Rosie Duffield' search gives 80 results of threads naming her in the title.

Always room for more, of course. Rosie is a star.

Whatsfordinnerglutenfree · 18/01/2023 10:47

So labour MPs were cheering Rosie,, I wonder who they are and if Keir is paying attention.

Her colleagues are a disgrace.

I wonder if it should have been 'jeered'.

Helleofabore · 18/01/2023 11:08

I do wish that she was my MP. She deserves any support we can give her.

Agree with this. Every MP standing up for women's rights needs our support and thanks. Those who don't I really have no words for, feel really really let down by them. I would like them to explain to women who feel vulnerable how they are able to disregard their views and sell their rights down the river.

BoredOfThisMansWorld · 18/01/2023 12:24

If it was "jeering", how can Keir Starmer talk about safe spaces for women when it's clear much of his party treats women - particularly vulnerable and traumatised women - with such disdain? Give up, Keir. Just say what you really mean.

I don't know how Rosie Duffield keeps going. She's amazing.

I don't know how labour can understand themselves as socialist if they refuse to recognise the class of woman.

Thelnebriati · 18/01/2023 12:29

I feel like we're in a really dangerous place politically atm, we need more actual politicians like Rosie. The debate yesterday was a farce. Politicians speaking in favour of women's rights had facts and figures; the ones opposing them had rabble rousing cliches.
I don't know how politicians in the HOC are suddenly exempt from the Equality Act, but its an offence to harass someone based on their protected characteristic, or to victimise someone standing up for their rights. The jeering was unacceptable. If it had been directed at a black politician in a debate about how a new law discriminates on the grounds of race and removes existing rights from black people, maybe then people could see the problem.

Igmum · 18/01/2023 12:32

Yes well done Rosie. I wish she was my MP too. I'd love to be able to vote Labour again with my head held high. MPs behaviour is a disgrace and long has been. Gordon Brown tried to improve it but didn't get far. Imagine people behaving like that in any other workplace - or kids behaving like that in school.

maranella · 18/01/2023 12:37

Thank you Rosie Duffield - you are both brave and principled and I wish you were my MP - I'd actually vote Labour if you were. As it is, I have a woke LD, who is actually a decent MP for this area, apart from her anti-women beliefs.

Well said @Thelnebriati. God forbid that anyone stands up in the HoC for the rights of 51% of the population eh? It's a disgrace. I'd say it was misogynistic, except all the people I could see jeering were women Sad

Violetparis · 18/01/2023 12:37

Rosie is a magnificant woman, brave and principled, we need more MPs like her. Ben Bradshaw's tweet in link shared by MorvenOfMalvern is disgusting.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 18/01/2023 12:40

She is so dignified and bright.

we need her.

the beardie smoke bro who employs people who shout at babies can fuck off

GCMM · 18/01/2023 13:59

She is my MP and has been selected to stand again. It's the only way I can vote Labour next time, otherwise I would seriously consider spoiling my ballot paper.
She got in originally on the back of a huge student vote (Canterbury had had a Tory MP for 99 years before her!) and I doubt she can rely on that again, so it'll be interesting to see what happens...

Walrussy · 18/01/2023 14:09

Yes, imagine if David Lammy had stood up to object to a relaxation on laws about white people being able to identify as black people. (And of course that would be far more legitimate as race actually is a spectrum, and the physical differences between skin colours will never include things akin to periods, pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause, which no trans woman has ever experienced.)

Imagine those same men jeering him as he tried to articulate the problems with it, congratulating themselves on how progressive they are. God, I despise them.

She's definitely got a lot of guts, standing up to her own party like she has done. The hectoring by her own party is a fucking disgrace, but I don't expect Starmer to do anything about it. He's such a weak windbag.

FrancescaContini · 18/01/2023 14:15

I love ❤️ Rosie, too. She has integrity.

KohlaParasaurus · 18/01/2023 14:33

A big cheer for me for Rosie Duffield. A shining light in a Labour Party that I am otherwise becoming increasingly disinclined to vote for despite a political environment that should allow them to walk into government at the next general election. I would love to see Sir Keir Starmer deal fiercely with the jeerers but I don't hold out much hope.

KohlaParasaurus · 18/01/2023 14:34

From me, duh!

Some of us on other threads have discussed spoiling ballots, if there are no decent independents.

IwantToRetire · 18/01/2023 16:00

Can only say I agree.

I dont know how she puts up with her Labour colleagues. Not just the ones who aren't embarrassed to jeer her in public, but the ones who stay silent.

BlueBooh · 18/01/2023 16:08

I'm glad that I hadn't missed anything negative about her. I know there are lots of other threads about her but not on this particular subject.

Why can't she break out and start an independent party? I really don't want to spoil my vote at another election!

We need more Rosies!

I don't really go on Twitter, has she been lambasted there?

So many questions!
