Just noticed a tweet to say Helen is on at 7.20 this morning with India - discussing Scottish GRR.

OP posts:

I mean this is what is so very galling. This is the level of intellect being brought to the table to take away all women's universal sex based rights to single sex spaces. This???

This is what enrages me. Helen is so intelligent, I feel furious that she has to waste her time arguing with idiots. She has a PhD in maths, she was an editor on the Economist, there are a whole load of things she could be doing with her life, but instead she has to argue over basic incontrovertible facts with morons. I imagine this is how Galileo must have felt.

She’s doing it because she cares about children and the harm being done to them as a result of this belief system being promoted to them online, in the media and in schools. Basically she’s sacrificed her career to raise awareness of the issue and try to prevent further harm.

Ifulikepinacoladas · 16/01/2023 07:46

Inda has tweeted that Helen knows nothing about the trans issue. I don't think she liked Helens hard facts at the end about men lying their way into women's prisons.
I'm so angry about this whole subject. I can never articulate myself well enough when I try to speak about it which is frustrating. Especially to DD 🙄

I am exactly the same!!!! I can never quite express how it is just so wrong. I just get frustrated and hot!

DysonSpheres · 16/01/2023 13:17

Total whataboutary!

And brilliant.

What it does show is that for many politicians, believing that people are who they say they are is unthinkable if there are financial implications, despite disabled people having to jump through hoops, but suddenly it’s much less of an issue if its women’s safety and dignity at risk rather than money.

WallaceinAnderland · 16/01/2023 18:46

Lol IW self censoring on twitter

From this:

I don’t know the circs of the Irish prisoners HJ claimed, But I DO know that no prisoner in the UK with a history of sexual violence can Self ID and be transfered into the womens estate. Imposs. I’ve been to prison, met Governors. Can’t. Happen. Rules changed after K White.

To this:

There is not a single case anywhere in the world of a predator pretending to be trans, going down the three-month Self ID process with a solicitor, and using an updated birth certificate to attack a woman. Not one. It’s a COMPLETE LIE. #PitchforksAndLanterns

mrshoho · 16/01/2023 18:52

I am the same. I know it's wrong and know what the ramifications of say allowing a 16 year old to change their sex (in a legal sense rather than the impossible biological sense) after a few months of experimenting. Or giving violent men an avenue where they are legally treated as bring female. But I get exasperated and flustered trying to express it.

Whyjustwhy123 · 16/01/2023 19:07

Love H on trigonometry. She did brilliantly in the interview.

The absolute irony of Holly stating that they can’t talk for anyone else is hilarious. As is the fact that they were concerned someone might steel their identity from the passport.

I mean come one surely this may make the penny drop for someone?!?!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/01/2023 19:11

India, not Holly Grin

DeeplyMovingExperience · 16/01/2023 19:17

I don't understand why IW is given airtime given the constant blatant lies and spiteful vitriol. Some basic fact-checking wouldn't go amiss from the broadcaster.

WickedSerious · 16/01/2023 19:22

Helleofabore · 16/01/2023 09:17

Is Willoughby being deliberately brought on now to show the lack of foundations to the discussion points and the dishonesty of some of the points? Willoughby is out there on twitter telling everyone that males on oestrogen are the same as females after 2 years. And this is Willoughby who dishonestly calls themselves a 'female'.

Not only that, they have been shown to display male aggression and force people to kiss them on TV, tweets abhorrent tweets, yet is still booked to come onto media.

If I were Willoughby, I would be suspicious.

He's too self absorbed to be suspicious.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/01/2023 19:47

Thanks for the YouTube link. HJ was excellent.

Am I right in thinking you don't need a GRC to get the sex marker in your passport changed? Ditto driving licence.

Re single sex schools - I believe there are hardly any in Scotland, as it happens, but that's really beside the point. Single-sex facilities, accommodation on trips, sports etc are all affected in co-ed schools.

I think I recall reading some years ago that the Master of Eton College had said that they would not be admitting transboys or excluding transgirls, effectively confirming that they will continue to be a boys' only school. I would hope that girls' schools will hold the line too, but worry about the pernicious effect of #bekind on female-only organisations, as we have seen with the Guides.

I was waiting and waiting for somebody to ask what it means to 'live as the opposite gender'. HJ managed to make the point that in Scotland all you need to do now is change your name and ask people to call you by different pronouns. That may have come as a surprise to some people.

"Just watched it. Thank god Susanna Reid jumped in with the 'privacy concerns' when IW started waving the passport at the TV. It was super annoying. I'm sure she knew it.
I mean this is what is so very galling. This is the level of intellect being brought to the table to take away all women's universal sex based rights to single sex spaces. This???"

Grateful that India was waving about a passport, and not their supposed cervix.

Well yes, small mercies!

DerekFaker · 16/01/2023 18:06

India will have the last word, damnit!

How very manly of him.

rabbitwoman · 16/01/2023 20:41

DerekFaker · 16/01/2023 18:06

India will have the last word, damnit!

Well then, what is the point of self ID??

Either you are who you say you are, no matter what,

or

checks and balances need to be in place and people need to be judged on a case by case basis,

you literally cannot have it both ways.....

WallaceinAnderland · 16/01/2023 20:50

IW is constantly posting on twitter that transpeople should not be interviewed alongside gender critical people and then goes and does that exact thing.

But it's the only work offered in years so I guess those principles only apply to others.

nepeta · 16/01/2023 21:07

India's reference to over 320 million people living already in countries which have self-id needs a bit more explaining.

For one thing, one of those countries is Pakistan, with over 230 million people, and it's extremely unlikely that Pakistan would collect careful statistics on how self-id has affected sexual assaults against women. Several other countries with self-id are not complete feminist paradises (Malta (where abortion is illegal), several South and Central American countries), and as far as I can tell Ireland chose not to collect any statistical information on the possible impact of the self-id law so the information does not exist. It looks like Belgium, also, is either not gathering the data or not publishing it.

So we don't really know what the impact might be. But some of it will come from the fact that when facilities become mixed sex it is harder to raise alarm as male people would have an excuse for being in women's single-sex facilities and, in some countries, a woman complaining about that could be fined (I think Norway can do this). I think the impact would be a diffuse one, perhaps causing some women to self-exclude from various activities, and for other women to re-calibrate their ideas about what spaces are safe and when.

Datun · 16/01/2023 23:08

HJ managed to make the point that in Scotland all you need to do now is change your name and ask people to call you by different pronouns. That may have come as a surprise to some people.

yes, all these snippets of information are going to be listened to. The questions that will be coming as a result, will be very interesting.

"So you don't need any surgery, hormones, diagnosis, nothing, to go into a woman's prison? Rape refuge? Changing rooms?"

The Staniland question is going to get a much wider audience.

BlessedKali · 16/01/2023 23:24

How many people eating their cereal this morning paused, cornflakes agog, and realised sex offenders are in women's prisons

Mollyollydolly · 17/01/2023 00:17

I've only just seen this. How wonderful to see Helen on a mainstream news channel absolutely smashing it out of the park. They will be a few people who choked on their crunchy nut cornflakes watching that this morning. India, the gift that keeps on giving.

Mollyollydolly · 17/01/2023 00:27

And as an aside Ed Ball and his reaction to Helen was interesting, like a penny had dropped. I think his son is a TRA, have some vague recollection of him protesting women at some university event ..

Mollyollydolly · 17/01/2023 00:28

Here it is .. Ed and Yvette's son last year www.lbc.co.uk/watch-videos/nadhim-zahawi-protest-warwick-tories/

MorvenOfMalvern · 17/01/2023 00:33

I felt like Ed Balls and Susanna Reid were both thinking a lot today. They can imagine the optics, they can hear the huge lack of intelligence from IW, the swaggering demeanour and see the stupidity of the passport....and contrast with the calm, clear, extremely well informed and articulate HJ...

The contradictions in what IW said about schools for eg - just led to confused pauses from the presenters ..which highlighted what stupid answers they were, as they sort of hung in the air...

DerekFaker · 17/01/2023 07:48

Disgusting and desperate from IW.

Disgusting and desperate from IW.

He just will not shut the fuck up will he?

NotBadConsidering · 17/01/2023 11:28

The argument “there’s already bad trans people who’ve done bad things to women so what difference will self-ID make?” has to be the nadir of women-hating idiocy.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 17/01/2023 12:36

Cis and lesbian?

I'm confused.
