Justme56 · 16/01/2023 07:13

Just noticed a tweet to say Helen is on at 7.20 this morning with India - discussing Scottish GRR.

OP posts:

Why does IW deny the prisons issue so strongly?

Surely a more sensible approach would be 'yes this is a worry and the trans community are working with the MoJ/ courts/ prison officers to ensure the safety of everyone'.

Rather than No You Are Wrong which just makes India look a little foolish

Maybe IW can’t countenance that anything said by a TRA isn’t immediately accepted as the truth?

MorvenOfMalvern · 16/01/2023 11:26

I actually have a bit more sympathy/understanding for RMW ridiculous, "but they're not trans" excuses. I can see you trying to make that work in your tiny brain when confronted with the facts, if you want to deny it all. But IW just saying, "it never happens" is even more stupid than that.

IcakethereforeIam · 16/01/2023 11:28

@Birdsweepsin I totally agree. It's ridiculous to deny there's a problem when there's so much evidence of it. It's so demonstrably something that happens that it undermines anything else that India might say.

Oh, and while I'm here, please follow the link below to sign the petition to help keep men, including sex offenders, out of women's prisons and remove the ones that have already been put there

www.mumsnet.com/talk/petitions_noticeboard/4668426-petition-update-the-equality-act-to-make-clear-the-characteristic-sex-is-biological-sex

Also share it, if you can. And check out some of the other petitions on that board.

Yes, the invention of the concept of a section of men who are exempt from safeguarding rules and the normal social conventions is both absurd and dangerous.

I couldn’t agree with you more, @ArabellaScott

It's so easily disproven.

Katie Dolatowski is a convicted violent sex offender. Currently in women's prison provision in Scotland. There are others.

@InterestingUsernameTBC I also am slightly skeptical, when they refer to single sex spaces, does that mean biological single sex or legal single sex with anyone who has paid £5 for a certificate?

This. Once you have your certificate you are legally a woman, so single sex space is technically correct. Only women allowed in there. Biological or otherwise

CloudPop · 16/01/2023 11:44

Yes, the invention of the concept of a section of men who are exempt from safeguarding rules and the normal social conventions is both absurd and dangerous.

Don't forget as well that this section of men is self-selecting. A self-selected section of men who are exempt from safeguarding. Nope, can't see any issue with that whatsoever.

What could possibly go wrong.

Because that would be a concession. A concession that women’s concerns are valid. In TRA World there can be no concessions because they know that is the death of their ideology. Every time a concession has been made, major shifts have happened.

Without the zealots like IW they have no case and the entire house of cards falls down.

MorvenOfMalvern · 16/01/2023 11:46

I've just watched and can't see how anyone watching that will come away without more questions than answers.

IW starting point of not being able to speak for anyone else, and the multiple assertions of no one except trans people being able to say what being trans is like...just surely make anyone, even the completely new to this, say, "why do you think you know what a woman feels like then?" "Why are you here as a spokesperson if you're v clear you can't speak for anyone but yourself?"

What do "living as"mean
What does this mean for pay and pensions?
What about schools?
Hang on, we let convicted offenders choose their prisons?

The sunlight is streaming in, the inconsistency and obfuscation writ large.

HJ was clear, focused, unemotional, accurate, verifiable ...

The very fact this is getting this mainstream air time, EB and SR were a good mix of persistent and bemused, and that it was mentioned several times before the actual interviews is all something we wouldn't have sen happening not that long ago.

NS and the Scots Gov have created an absolute own goal by pushing everyone this far

IW has committed volleys of own goals by coming across so poorly

bellinisurge · 16/01/2023 11:58

I loved the way HJ made no facial reactions to IW's nonsense. Clear calm sensible.
Also
This "there have always been trans people " - "Yes, India, they are called transvestites (AGPs) and transsexuals". The latter are entitled to support and healthcare like everyone else. If they are vulnerable men in male only spaces, then provision should be made to protect them from men by offering a third space. Women are not human shields to protect men from other men.
AGPs can fuck off. They are entitled to no extra support.

LizzieSiddal · 16/01/2023 12:26

Just discussing this issue on BBC2 now Politics Live

LizzieSiddal · 16/01/2023 12:28

India on single sex schools

"We're not in the business of segregating people"

That's literally their business Hmm

DysonSpheres · 16/01/2023 13:17

bellinisurge · 16/01/2023 09:54

While they are so keen on reducing the humiliation of tbe current GRC process, perhaps they could do something about tbe process by which disabled people get any benefits. Far more humiliating.
Is that whataboutary? You fucking well bet your arse it is. Don't care.

Total whataboutary!

And brilliant.

KatMcBundleFace · 16/01/2023 13:27

But but water! Sometimes it goes off!
😆

And that's how you know your gendered soul doesn't match with your biological sex. Even when FATHERING A CHILD ffs. Lol.

MorvenOfMalvern · 16/01/2023 13:29

I've just watched the segment on Politics Live in BBC iPlayer - starts at 12.22-12.37 approximately.

Some really calm, clear explanation and discussion of issues by male members of the panel ( a Tory MP, Scott someone, the Editor of UnHerd and a man called Rafael...) The female panel member, a labour MP Olivia someone? came across as marginally unhinged with her clichéd hyperbole and almost shaking with anger replies.

Amazing that this was a nearly 15 minute segment of discussion, with a wide range of implications discussed.

catandcoffee · 16/01/2023 13:33

Thanks just watched it and India waving the passport around 🙄

KatMcBundleFace · 16/01/2023 13:35

And India's hopeless confusion over the school question. That was hilarious too......
Not to mention the LOOK AT MY PASSPORT I AM FEMALE. lol.

India apologised to Indias twitter followers. Apparently its hard down a phone line.

I'm sure it is India 👋
You can't shout over women when there's a mute button, can you? Or get the last word.

I was convinced the world would peak and the Terf Wars be won after India's behaviour on CBB, back in 2018. And yet, here we are.....

Ed Balls (husband of Yvette Cooper) was interesting at the end. Contemplating the situation and the effect it could have constitutionally. He couldn't quite believe it I think. Ed, it's not that hard. Come out of your bubble. When did we last pass a law which forces people to lie about fundamental reality?
