They will be discussing this on today's programme. Panellists include Sonia Sodha.

In Wales, they will not only recognise Scottish GRCs but seek powers to do the same:

That LGB alliance letter is excellent. I look forward to reading any response they get. Thanks for sharing @ResisterRex

ResisterRex · 10/01/2023 22:25

There are some links in it to evidence they sent to the UN? I think. Worth checking the footnotes maybe @FriendofJoanne

Should “ lived experience “ be regarded as “ anecdotal “?

If it’s the same thing , then why were women’s experiences disregarded by the EHRC committee.

This is important to mention this as that phrase “ lived experience “ is being used to describe some of evidence at the recent ban “ Conversion” bill at Holyrood by those who wish to bring in the ban.
Yet again we are seeing misogyny in action in Scotland.

RhannionKPSS · 11/01/2023 04:04

Please remember that RMW has, on more than one occasion, popped up on a thread on Mumsnet when women were giving support to rape survivors, brave Sarah, being one of those women, with regard to much needed single sex provisions.
RMW feels the need to tell us that women aren’t entitled to those spaces, RMW thinks that RMW knows better than women what we need , so that tells us quite a lot about RMW.

There are links in that LGBA letter, and a text of an email:

Email to his office to ask where a response was:
"Email of 21 January 2022, “Dear Catherine, Some considerable time ago we sent in a detailed submission to the Independent Expert on SOGI. So did several other LGB organizations around the world. We heard many months ago that submissions would be published in due course but we haven't been able to find out where ours appears. Are we looking in the wrong place? Could you please let us know as soon as possible? If you have decided against publishing the
submissions by LGB Alliance and other LGB groups, we would like to know -- and to know the reason why. We
sincerely hope there is no desire to suppress a plurality of views. This would strengthen the growing conviction that the views of LGB people are being sidelined by an organization we would once have expected to support us. LGB rights matter! Kind regards,
Bev Jackson and Kate Harris"

Harrow Labour Councillor thanks Sonia:

"This is a really tough and difficult subject to talk about due to the amount of abuse one can get. Wanted to say that I thought @ soniasodha argued her side really well."

Should “ lived experience “ be regarded as “ anecdotal “? If it’s the same thing , then why were women’s experiences disregarded by the EHRC committee.

The cynical part of my brain has noticed a pattern where the "lived" in front of experience is to distract you from the fact it's not relevant experience. And it's definitely not expertise.

An "anecdote" is at least usually relevant to whatever's being discussed in terms of policy. "Lived experience" is usually just a pure identity claim such as "I'm non-binary!"

I’m surprised RMW hasn’t come to scold us yet. Pleased to see RMW getting no support at all on twitter on the bbc politics thread!

I just had a look at that and found RMW saying to Debbie Hayton "But you aren’t trans."

twitter.com/moira_robin/status/1612947149679104001

RMW believes in self ID, but only for people RMW decides are the right sort of trans.

Norma27 · 11/01/2023 10:36

I saw that @oldcrone. As you say self-if on RMW terms only.

ResisterRex · 11/01/2023 10:48

RMW insults Sonia, who responds:

That thread is madness!

ResisterRex · 11/01/2023 11:49

In the Guardian:

"Nancy Kelley, the chief executive of Stonewall, and Colin Macfarlane, the LGBTQ+ rights campaign’s Scotland director, said: “Ending reciprocal recognition of gender recognition certificates from countries that support trans people changing their legal gender using a self-determination model is a disgraceful low for the UK government’s approach to LGBTQ+ rights."

www.theguardian.com/world/2023/jan/10/tories-review-lgbtq-gender-recognition-certificate-deal

"Reciprocal" doing some heavy lifting there. If we don't do self-ID, how are the arrangements in any way equal?

ArabellaScott · 11/01/2023 11:51

Quite. Or are we supposed to recognise driving licenses from anywhere in the world on the basis of it being 'reciprocal'?

Wow. A barrister?!

xalo · 11/01/2023 12:23

Sonia wiped the floor with Robin.
For a barrister Robin was surprisingly inarticulate. And what's with the hair twiddling? Women just don't do thatGrin

Datun · 11/01/2023 12:32

How a person can sit there with a straight face and say there's no evidence that gender laws are being exploited is just beyond me.

Posters on this very thread are being deleted for accurately identifying the male sex!

ResisterRex · 11/01/2023 12:41

Which makes you wonder if the new tactic is just to sit and watch, complain, and turn a thread into holes.

If my hair was ever twiddled, you can guarantee it was my young DS who was doing it 🤣
