Does anyone know what the deal is with her? She wrote a thread about being commissioned to write a hit piece on JK Rowling but in doing research found nothing transphobic and decided to speak out about it. I thought it was great and really good that it got some attention for JKR.

Now I’m seeing on Twitter everyone seems to be slagging her off and I can’t quite work out why. It’s not just trans rights activists, it’s the gender critical lot that seem to be gunning for her just as hard. She seems to have been asking for stories of abusive males but I’m not sure why that’s so terrible. People are always sharing their experiences of abuse on Twitter and obviously no one has to share if they don’t want to.

Can anyone fill me in? I feel I’ve missed something but I don’t know what.

I felt the same way but got dodgy vibes after a bit. Twitter history shows she claimed to be a “recovered TERF” just a couple of years ago.

She has recently started hosting twitter spaces & inviting women to share their experiences of abuse. I think that might be unwise as these are not confidential.

I’m keeping a distance - it might all be nothing, but it might not.

This is wise counsel.

RoyalCorgi · 27/12/2022 11:43

I'm very sceptical, I'm afraid. She hasn't named the publication that allegedly asked her to write a hatchet job on JK Rowling - why not?

She also posted a very implausible story recently on Twitter about a trans woman named Denise, which seemed designed to generate a lot of responses and retweets.

She still uses "cis".

She has very vocally changed her mind on this issue in the past.

To me, it all seems designed, at best, to gather publicity for herself, and therefore paid work, and at worst, to gather material that can be used to harm gender-critical feminists at a later date.

So that's a massive NO from me.

I saw something that she was writing a book from their stories , but not verified.

Everything has been too convenient.

Yes I felt that was very red flaggy.

RoyalCorgi · 27/12/2022 11:48

The other weird thing is that if you google her, it's very hard to find any recent articles by her. I didn't turn up any, in fact, apart from one recent one in the Scotsman about why she changed her mind on JKR. That's not to say they're not out there, but they're not obvious. Flagging career needs a bit of a boost?

Breakfastinbedonhols · 27/12/2022 11:55

She was on Andrew Doyle’s GBN show the other week. It was interesting to listen to and fair play on her for going on the channel. I bet she wouldn’t have even 6 months ago.
Same old story really, I didn’t read what JKR wrote, but then I read it and realised that she actually said nothing. Sigh.

Breakfastinbedonhols · 27/12/2022 11:56

She also said that she is the person who writes all the click bait articles, so her name may not be attached to a lot of work she does.

Attention seeking, flip flopper. Best ignored.

TinselAngel · 27/12/2022 12:10

I raised concerns on Twitter that she was inviting women to share stories of abuse by cross dressers,in an insecure twitter space with no details of how any women who participated would be safeguarded and what their stories would be used for. She didn't respond at all for several days and when she did she didn't address my concerns about safeguarding but gave an excruciatingly patronising response.

She touches on this in the Andrew Doyle interview.

It’s just screaming proof that click bait articles are pure shyte. Interviews like this should be shown in schools.

Ergh, so she is trying to make click bait out of women’s experiences now. Dear me, some people have no moral compass do they?

Signalbox · 27/12/2022 12:18

I thought she was genuine at 1st. Not so sure now. It’s like she’s using JKR to raise her profile. She’s gained about 12k followers since she 1st tweeted. She seems to be positioning herself in a leadership role which is a bit odd since she’s literally only just changed her mind on JKR. If she thought JKR was a bigot she must’ve held other trans activist views. I don’t believe someone can undergo a mindset change so quickly just by reading a JKR essay however good they are. Jo Bartosch pointed out it was a bit reminiscent of Amy Dyas. I’m inclined to agree.

Breakfastinbedonhols · 27/12/2022 12:24

Yes Signalbox. The first I heard of her was on GBN, then after Tinsel posted her Twitter above I have done a complete u-turn on her already.

She just wants to make money now that things are starting to come out in the wash. Whereas real journalists like Jo B have gone to every rally, spoken to so many people and have written great articles.

TinselAngel · 27/12/2022 12:26

I've got no comment or judgement on her other than the safety of women is clearly not her foremost concern and IMO it should be.

Floisme · 27/12/2022 13:12

I don't feel I know enough to form a view on her personally. However I'm intrigued and kind of heartened by the idea that someone might think supporting JKR is a good career move.

I think that she’s realised she was working in a saturated market saying what a big meanie JKR was. There aren’t really any women like her around at the moment on the GC side - journalist with history writing for things like PinkNews and having changed her mind. It’s working so far too - GB News, 12k more followers, interview with Julie Bindel, personal message from JKR. Maybe she does think JKR has been misrepresented but her main concern seems to be that of her career and I think if there was the opportunity to make more of a name for herself by becoming a “recovered TERF” she’d grab it with two hands.

OP posts:
Floisme · 27/12/2022 14:56

Yeah quite possibly, but what I'm taking from it is that, even if that if that's her main concern, the idea that she might believe this would benefit her career suggests there's been something of a sea change.

GCSquirrel · 27/12/2022 15:00

@Floisme thats definitely a heartening thought

To be honest, that's what I assume her overall gameplan might be.

Sorry if I'm being thick but what does that tweet have to do with EJ Rosetta? Is she the blonde woman in the picture?
