Continuation of Thread 1

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions, grr"- that sort of thing).

This idea that middle-class white people who have an 'M' on their birth certificate are the most oppressed people ever is ridiculous. Or possibly the entire point of the gender movement.

Dotellhimpike · 21/01/2023 06:40

Most vulnerable in society? Anyone who works in healthcare will of course know that shocking stats for early deaths among people with disabilities, not to mention quality of life and dealing with harassment on a daily basis. I do agree with Emily Thornberry on many issues but with that comment she can f*ck right off.

And while we are on the subject, how many people who make a virtue of displaying their pronouns have ever tried to learn the most basics of sign language? The deaf community is huge in the UK, around 18% of the population are deaf or hard of hearing, so why not push for more inclusion there?

dunBle · 21/01/2023 07:37

Not to mention those with severe mental illnesses like schizophrenia, who are often marginalised, and have a significantly worse life expectancy than the public at large.

Slothtoes · 21/01/2023 07:47

Christ have we now lost the meaning of the word ‘vulnerable’ too?

This is a horribly upsetting but relevant thread: www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4587106-learning-disabled-girls-women-must-accept-men-providing-intimate-care

Kucinghitam · 21/01/2023 08:31

Back to a recurring theme we mentioned yesterday, of increasing visits (or could all be a few NCers??) from disingenuous prolific slithery-word-playing squirrel-pointing goalpost-shifting Righteous folx. It is inevitable with MN being such a large, well-known, mostly-female site in which we just don't understand that women are only supposed to talk about kindness, make-up tips and pink fluff.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/4724756-to-find-media-discussion-about-trans-issues-far-overstated-compared-to-the-actual-seriousness-of-the-issue?

bignosebignose · 21/01/2023 09:38

82% disagree with that poster, which is nice.

In other news, Tavistock bins Mermaids "training":

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 21/01/2023 10:06

Not Tavistock, but one of the trusts taking over from Tavistock.

bignosebignose · 21/01/2023 10:17

That'll learn me for rushing to post without actually reading properly first. Makes more sense, since Tavistock itself is being binned. D'oh.

Link in there to wingsoverscotland article on relative stats in sexual offending between women, men and men who want to be women.

I'm a bit concerned by the approach. The numbers are very small overall so of course there's a risk from that, were we judging difference and significance. But see for yourselves, this is their link:

Just came here to post that. I have never seen violent threats on a placard by women’s rights protesters. The rhetoric is terrifying.

SinnerBoy · 21/01/2023 19:03

Chicken Starmer needs to be put on the spot over his "both sides have been awful" comment and told to pony up the evidence.

IReallyLikeCrows · 21/01/2023 19:17

To be fair both sides have been awful. TRAs hold placards with things like "decapitate TERFs", "Kill TERFs" etc, they make death threats against high-profile women who dare to put their heads above the parapet (all the easier to decapitate?) and have violently prevented talks by TERFs - obviously, it should be understood that all women who don't accept everything the TRAs say as gospel is a TERF - but. They have also taught us things about ourselves, like that periods are a state of mind and you don't need to bleed to have them. I for one was delighted to hear that because it means that now that I don't bleed anymore because menopause, I am still having periods because I can picture them in my head. Result!

GCs, on the other hand, are evil bastards who find places to speak freely about their concerns, attempt to hold rallies and discussions in actual public and insist that men are men. I mean if we can't see that we are as awful as them and not even able to teach ourselves about periods then we are clearly deluded and violent, bigoted, evil, bastards.

You haven't factored this in though: if women just shut up, there wouldn't be any need for the posters. Something to think about there.

Some GCs even...whispers....knit!!!!!!!!!!

They must be shamed then burned!

Boiledbeetle · 21/01/2023 19:20

I mean not me personally. I'm depraved but not that bloody depraved!

duc748 · 21/01/2023 19:29

The extent to which bien pensant left/liberal opinion has been captured is remarkable, on the face of it. World-wide, it seems. 'Follow the money' is certainly a factor. I suppose the hope is, that as public understanding of the issues grows, pols like Starmer and Sturgeon may find that the GBP isn't so keen at all. Of course, that requires media that report fairly and accurately.

Winterborne74 · 21/01/2023 19:39

True. All this unpleasantness could have been avoided if we’d just done as we were told. Unforgivable really.

Ooh excellent can you do me some bedsocks, size 7 adults, nice soft non scratchy wool. Thanks.

Oh and we've got you scheduled in for burning forever in eternal damnation from 3.30pm on Wednesday until ,well, forever. so better get on with them socks.

IReallyLikeCrows · 21/01/2023 19:46

I am that depraved. I don't crotchet* though, so not completely and utterly depraved.

*I have nothing against crotchet except that I can't do it. I've tried and it's always a clusterfuck. I need someone who can do it to teach me but than again knitting is enough of a wool thing for me.

Boiledbeetle · 21/01/2023 19:49

Seriously the next women's anything you should all just sit and knit whilst the TRA s go bonkers at you. it would be joyous tho watch.

"What they screaming at?"

"Oh those horrible women over there daring to knit in public."

Winterborne74 · 21/01/2023 20:03

😆Unfortunately a new Tricoteuse movement would just reinforce the opposition’s persecution complex though. Can you imagine the spin?

God I love mumsnet. I learn so much stuff. And when you consider the decapitate Terfs sign today....oh god!

.....The veterans of the march, and their numerous successors and hangers-on, gathered thereafter at the guillotine in the Place de la Révolution (now Place de la Concorde), as sullen onlookers to the daily public executions. "Thus deprived of active participation in politics, the market-women became the tricoteuses, or knitting-women, who used to take their seats at the Place de la Révolution, and watch the guillotine as they knitted."[2]

MadameDefarge would be a great username, though.
