Telegraph - Keir Starmer: Pro-trans laws are needed across UK

ResisterRex · 23/12/2022 21:30

At first glance, just (just!!) a rehash of his video from last year. Which said what it said. But there's this:

www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2022/12/23/keir-starmer-pro-trans-laws-needed-across-uk/

"Asked by The Telegraph about the leader’s comments to Pink News, Labour confirmed that he stood by plans to reform the GRA.

A party spokesman said: “All political parties agree that the process needs modernising. A future Labour government will consult on what that looks like, while upholding the Equality Act and maintaining single-sex spaces.
“Labour has a strong and proud record of standing up for women’s rights. Our commitment to them is unrelenting.”
Trans rights have become a key electoral battleground in the USS_ and are expected to be similarly important in the UK at the next general election."

Do all political parties agree the GRA needs updating? The Tories just made it easier to get a GRC, and they've not said they plan to do more.

Once again the "maintaining single sex spaces" rhetoric. But next to the Haldane judgement? Come on.

Might it be better if posters used they instead of he and she as pronouns when they do not know another poster?

Ah, so as long as you look male you are not allowed in.
Are there any particular features that allow your eyes to determine this, is it perhaps the way they dress? Short hair?

Oh come on, I know you are not going to start pretending that humans can't tell the difference between males and females. How on earth did we ever get this far as a species if we can't tell who are the men and who are the women?

And isn't it funny how men, over millenia of opressinflg women, have never had any issues identifying who the women are and who the men are....until now?

Can you identify correctly 100% of the time whether someone is male or female by looking at them?

MarshaBradyo · 29/12/2022 21:00

What is a 'transwoman'? What is the difference between a 'transwoman' and a man?

Was this question ever answered

atomsgirl · 29/12/2022 21:00

@jgw1 I would be very impressed if you can't often tell who is a man and who is a woman regardless if they are transman or a transwoman, and wearing cosmetics/beards/moustaches etc.

The size of the Adam's apple is often a very clear sign of sex. But size of body, broadness, the texture of the skin, and so on are also clear visible signs. If a transperson does closely resemble their desired sex (extremely rare from what I have personally seen), then usually something else gives it away ie. voice, mannerisms etc.

Once born a biological gender and been through puberty, I think it's very hard to come across like the opposite one.

Are you about to roll out a heavily filtered, posed photo of a trans person to prove a point? In most cases, in real life, its pretty easy to tell who are the men and who are the women.

If everyone knew that single sex spaces were, in fact, single sex, then no one would be eyeballing anyone in a single sex space wondering about sex would they?

I am incredibly suspicious of any male who is so heavily invested in gaining access to a female space or provision.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 29/12/2022 21:02

It's very evident which poster has problems identifying the sex of others. 😁Fortunately the rest of society have cracked that one which is why women still have all the babies and the women on Mumsnet are au fait with the dangers posed to women and children by some men.

Might it be better if you didn't respond to the wrong person? It's fairly basic.

IKR? Their dating process must take an eternity!!

Maybe they've never had one.

Different experiences, different perspectives. jgw tells us that we should not prioritise this issue but does not reveal why they take this line, leaving us with no reason to give his opinions weight.

You missed the part where I pointed out earlier in the thread that the vast majority of sexual assaults are carried out by someone known to the perpetrator.
Where I pointed out some of the many failings of the current government when it comes to the criminal justice system. But you keep going on and on about an issue that will effect very few of us.

Just don't mention the clampdown on protests because the current government doesn't like consent. Arrested for holding up a blank piece of paper...

I'll just rephrase that for you:

"The vast majority of sexual assaults are committed by those who have an easy opportunity to commit them."

Why should we give more people the opportunity? And why should we specifically open that opportunity up to those with a past history of such offences?

What is this obsession with rewriting what I have written?

What is written in the stars? Who says you aren't even playing rules from blue zygotes on a steamtrain? Nobody, that's who!

and generally know who they can trust or not.

Please could you give me some clues as to who I can trust and who not?

Well you can trust women (the cunty kind) not to rape you, because they don't have the wherewithal.

Men (whether they prefer to wear a suit or a frock) do have the wherewithal, so it's wise to maintain a degree of distrust until you know them well enough to have an idea of whether they're the type to misuse it.

This is why women are generally more comfortable with other women (yes, including lesbians as they don't have penises either) in vulnerable situations than they would be with men.

Are you saying that no rapes are carried out by women?

The cunty kind? Yes, women do not have a penis and therefore cannot commit the crime of rape under UK law. The only time that they can be convicted of the charge of rape is when it is by joint enterprise - in other words they were working with a man who used his penis.

Datun · 29/12/2022 22:27

jgw1 · 29/12/2022 22:20

Are you saying that no rapes are carried out by women?

In this country, no. You probably dont know this, but a penis is required for the crime of rape.

Furthermore, and again, probably something else you don't know, 98 percent of all sex crimes are committed by men.

You know what else I dont know. That about 90% of those are committed by someone known to the victim.

So......let's make all female only spaces and provision, including women's refuges, mixed sex?

Is that what you are saying?

Great, cheers for that.
