I actually expected The Independent to be a little more....Independent!

To be fair it's not the independent criticising it, they're quoting random unnamed accounts on twitter who are criticising it.

It's usually the Daily Mail that creates a story revolving around tweets from Mr Outraged of Oldham and Mrs Furious of Farnborough.

Pathetic to see the Independent stoop to this level of "journalism".

This is a fundamentally amazing new service for women in and around Edinburgh, but the Independent has to spin exclusively women's services as a bad thing. You'd never guess that it's under their Lifestyle > Women section.

So, Sistah Space- a centre for only POC DV victims to access - is ok but Beira’s Place - a centre for female only victims of violence - is not. Why?

Just imagine, women having a service of their own. And that the new centre should also then have a legitimate seat at any discussion around the provision of women's trauma care in Scotland. I mean, I could not imagine that the management of the centre would be excluded from any discussion about setting direction regarding VAWAG in Scotland would they?

Of course they object.Women meant to be useful to men and have no business meeting, talking, organising, discussing their rape or even undressing without the permission and presence of men.

The new twist is that they are complaining about the fact that they believe that she should have opened the centre 20 years ago. And that she is now doing it because she hates a group of the population.

The reality is that Joanne Rowling has always supported women and girls directly. And she is now even more financially in the position to help considering she has recent book sales and movie deals. She can now do more.

And she is .

And she is doing far more than many other celebrities...and they HATE it.

But I really love the thought that it will be the management of this centre that will be right there with the ability to shape policy recommendations for Scotland.

Maybe one of the very wealthy "women" behind the trans movement (Jennifer Pritzker, Martine whats-his-face, Caitlin Jenner etc) can channel some of their millions into a similar service for transwomen.

Indeed. Though, to be fair, most of the trans focused organisations seem to concentrate their efforts as much on lobbying and “awareness raising” as they do on offering substantive support.

Which is interesting.

Surely all the women working at Beira's place and all the women who choose it over services that are "inclusive" are considered mahoosive transphobes? Why would trans activists even want transwomen to go there?
