What's the betting a tra will try to get access and make a legal claim ? Hope JKR has that covered .

Luckily, JKR has deep pockets. And the Equality Act exemptions are very clear - though no doubt the Scottish govt will try to change them once it gets the new GRA through.

CaveMum · 12/12/2022 10:48

Just when you think she could be any more amazing 😍

And I bloody loved watching the new Strike last night!

Birdsweepsin · 12/12/2022 10:49

WH: starting with a summary of the Scottish Government gender reform proposals

Suzanne Moore to follow apparently

If it's not a charity, are they under any obligation to provide a service for all?

Birdsweepsin · 12/12/2022 10:55

A project like this has been years in the making.

She wants to make sure it's not subject to the whims of whoever is in power

Equality Act applies to everyone, including private providers.

LexMitior · 12/12/2022 10:56

No. Legitimate exception on the basis of single sex under the Equality Acf should apply.

Good for her. And if it's a referral system, then looks like any trans activists would be referred to a service for them.

Clever.

Birdsweepsin · 12/12/2022 10:57

It's really simple, it's about increasing capacity.

JKR is doing something to improve the lives of the most vulnerable people

The Scottish Government do not have the ability under the current devolution settlement to change the Equality Act.

Otherwise you can bet the SNP would have done it already.

CyanCyan · 12/12/2022 10:59

Fantastic news, what an amazing woman.

Dotellhimpike · 12/12/2022 10:59

"Good for her. And if it's a referral system, then looks like any trans activists would be referred to a service for them."

And if they are in genuine need of help, then I hope they get referred to somewhere that can provide it. I'm sure they wil be. Seems like they have thought this through.

Birdsweepsin · 12/12/2022 10:59

I'm almost willing to forgive Women's Hour for everything. So good to have this news on WH, and so quickly.

And followed straight away by an ad for Strike Troubled Blood

😁

Oh, no, please, whatever you do, don't bring a legal claim against us.

And definitely don't get the Good Law Project to fund it.

We wouldn't stand a chance. And we hate being in court.

LexMitior · 12/12/2022 11:03

Let's get over the Good Law Projecf as something to be worried about. They secure funding by being as contentious as possible, lose more cases than they win and are currently scrabbling around for lawyers to work for them.

Their rep is odious within the profession.

The GLP are a joke. No one takes them seriously

This isn't just an ordinary rape crisis centre team,

This is a superb, experienced, gold-plated, hand-picked team. Of women.

But I guess if the worst came to the worst, and her hands were totally forced, how much Ben Cooper could JKR afford, do you think? 🤔😳

Oh my. It's almost worth the court case.

LexMitior · 12/12/2022 11:19

It is a model that could be copied.

It is smart, legally speaking.

And Nicola Sturgeon is a disgrace. I hope this stain of a policy follows her long after she leaves Holyrood. The clearest message that she is the most selfish of politicians, to change an entire system of rights and responsibilities for her own benefit. It is a mystery how a self aware woman could vote for her

IcakethereforeIam · 12/12/2022 11:20

I wonder if it might become a flash point for tra demonstrations or vandalism, hopefully stopping at stickers. I hope even they wouldn't stoop so low. But if it does it will shine a light on their selfishness and misogyny, perhaps also illuminating the police, the press and the politicians.

LexMitior · 12/12/2022 11:22

It won't stop being a problem until Nicola Sturgeon is gone. She licenses this behaviour and gives it credence.
