I can't see a thread on this, but she is starting a new party and will run in elections.

What questions? You’ve asked why are some women “sniping from the sidelines” and you’ve accused another poster of “undermining confidence”

The one question you asked was rhetorical and just a vehicle to accuse a poster of sniping- designed to shame & silence. The other was just an bald accusation of undermining confidence & also designed to shame & silence.

You have zero curiosity and zero interest in any real discourse on KJKs chances of election.

Not true. The poster claimed to "be glad to be proven wrong". If that is genuinely the poster's position then why express doubt so publicly before any campaigning has gotten off the ground? I understand a motivation for doing that. So this is what I meant. Poster says one thing, then acts in a contradictory manner. Not intending to shame and silence at all. In any case I think poster has made the point the poster intended. Thinks its a bad idea. Got that. As the poster says though, we all have a right to express our opinion. As another says, posters will ask for evidence to support them.

She's a strong character and good at interviews, clear on message and geeat at publicity. I suspect the media will like her and she will get airtime to get her message out there. Also, she is rather divisive and larger than life, which will have media appeal. Hardly comparable to Binface.

Much as I detest Nigel Farage, he got a heck of a lot of media coverage for someone who wasn't an MP, leading a party with mostly no MPs. He was on Question Time etc despite having no real "power" and not representing a constituency. (I don't think most people saw being an MEP as particularly important.) I would say he influenced opinions for the worse, but he got the coverage and got the (single) message out there. At a time when it's hard to say what a lot of "celebrities" actually do, it's not unreasonable to think the KJK will be able to break into the mainstream and get sunlight on the issue. 5 minutes of fame to draw the public's attention to this load of crap would be better than nothing.

Buzzinwithbez · 08/12/2022 12:25

She'd get my vote, as the WEP would have done if they hadn't been a total letdown from the beginning.

Evidence of the funding from the far right or withdraw your remarks, please.

Perhaps I went too far and I don’t know her finances in detail, but she has been hosted / platformed by right wing podcasts and conferences, and that’s at least “in-kind” support. She was fundraising on her US tour at these same events. At the very least, she has associated herself with the far right. Some find that distasteful and that’s a perfectly legitimate view.

CriticalCondition · 08/12/2022 12:32

Thank you for that KJK interview JoodyBlue. I watched the bit you mentioned and then listened to the whole thing from start to finish.

I've always been a bit wary of KJK before. However much I agree with her, she's not 'likeable'. I guess that's my pesky female socialisation at work.
But that interview, crikey she is so clear, so uncompromising, explains her stance so fearlessly. She has my full respect.
My position has hardened over the last couple of years. I used to be a bit ambivalent for example about repealing the GRA and thought blimey, steady on, do we really have to go that far. Not any more. KJK is about 3 years ahead of me. She can see that there have to be hard lines, that experience shows giving an inch means a mile is taken.
Of course she won't win. That's not the point. But she is an excellent communicator, she has a very, very clear message and by standing she will get that heard.
Bring it on.

HappinessAlley · 08/12/2022 12:40

"If that is genuinely the poster's position then why express doubt so publicly before any campaigning has gotten off the ground?"

First, "so publicly". This is an anonymous forum.

Secondly, I express doubt because it's what I believe. I can hope England beat France this week, but there's nothing odd or nefarious about coming on a forum and saying I suspect they won't in case I undermine Gareth Southgate's confidence.

JoodyBlue · 08/12/2022 12:59

@CriticalCondition It is interesting, cos I find her very likeable. But I do think her uncompromising attitude is the reason she is able to take the fight on. I also do remember her posting from years back on here. She said the things I was thinking, although I was a lurker in those days. I have also followed her video musings over the years, there are times when the strong exterior has cracked and her real emotion in support of kids and women has shone through. So I suppose to me that supports her likeability. But ultimately it is the arguments that should stand alone I guess. To me they do. I'm going to add in an emoji to show this is a good faith sense of finding her post interesting, and I'm not disagreeing for the sake of it. Not always easy to convey that online. 🙂

JoodyBlue · 08/12/2022 13:00

@HappinessAlley fair enough. I'm done with the back and forth now.

'Perhaps', aye. Perhaps next time check your facts before you start flinging shit around?

Assuming you're interested in facts.

AlisonDonut · 08/12/2022 13:10

Julie Bindel - writes for and appears alongside right wingers and their publications. But yet she is allowed to call herself a left wing feminist...weird.

Truly KJK’s milkshake brings all the monomaniacs to the yard

if we admit she’s a bad lady because some bad men once stood near her, will you go away?

As T.S. Eliot once wrote in note 68 of The Waste Land 'It is a phemonenon which I have often noticed'.

Sorry you had to "fling shit".

My moral point stands. I think I've made my point and there's nothing to add. No one is perfect, there isn't a purity test, but some, like me, find the associations troubling.

CriticalCondition · 08/12/2022 13:34

Thank you for your thoughtful response JoodyBlue. 🙂
I wasn't sure about using the word 'likeable' but it was the best I could think of at the time. I think I mean I agree with her views, I admire her courage, I respect her for her absolute refusal to be sidetracked or diverted but she's not someone I would find easy to have as a friend. That is not to say she is not charismatic. She most definitely is and that is one of her many strengths.
It is interesting that you say there have been times when the strong exterior has cracked and you can see her emotion in support of women and children. I have only ever seen her in 'tough mode' but of course realise that her toughness is powered by a deep and genuine care for women and children. This is not academic for her.
Your post was interesting and is making me examine my reactions to some of the protagonists and where they come from. But I agree the ultimate question is whether the arguments stand alone. And yes, to me they do.

Yeah I confess I've found KJK "distasteful" on occasion in the past. But she's done a million things more for women's rights than I ever have. And she speaks clearly, in plain English, making her accessible in a way politicians and academics should be, but aren't.

This issue was never supposed to be a problem. It was supposed to quietly stealth in, as more and more organisations adopted Stonewall law without consultation. Politicians still seem to think any problems might magically go away. What activists and politicians hadn't banked on is that there continues to be a proportion of males intent on making use of Stonewall law to behave in rather gender-conforming ways, to the extreme detriment of women. And while that continues to happen, a growing group of women are being rather gender-non-conforming, like KJK, by saying NO.

I actually think she's doing the main parties a favour. We know the issue won't go away. KJK will help politicians realise that. It's up to them if they want to do something with that information (and obviously I hope Labour realises and I hope it's before the GE but I know that's probably unlikely). I think it will ultimately benefit any politicians who do face this issue.

CrossPurposes · 08/12/2022 14:43

Who knows she might be like The Amazing Mrs Pritchard from the pen of Sally Wainwright: "Supermarket manager Ros Pritchard decides to stand for election and her steady gains of support gives rise to thoughts of becoming Prime Minister."

JoodyBlue · 08/12/2022 15:04

@CriticalCondition I just popped back to catch up :) I had a very close friend (no longer with us) with whom I had a lot in common, but on some of the important things we differed quite strongly. Yet we talked about them without backing down. It ensured that I always had to be able to evidence arguments, and on occasion I know we put each other's backs up. But it was possibly the richest friendship I ever had. So perhaps I am trained a little in being able to see the hidden gem in people who aren't necessarily my "tribe". It is very interesting.

I actually just watched it back again and I can see where you are coming from with some of Kellie's assertions - the little jokes and the flirting would once have wound me up no end. However, to me now, these things - although irritating at times - are part of a wider context. I've seen the hard graft she has put in over the years. The creation of a persona that is strong enough to take the many knocks that she has taken. I have come to really appreciate her balls. So when she does that diva stuff, it usually makes smile these days.

It's like you have never come across women who decided to stand for election. Women have been doing this for quite a while now. I'd much prefer a lowly 'supermarket manager' to 'hedge fund manager'.

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2022 15:11

She’s brilliant, glad she’s running against Starmer

I expect the media will use her well

I probably won’t transfer my vote only because I don’t want Labour to implement their policies

CriticalCondition · 08/12/2022 15:16

a growing group of women are being rather gender-non-conforming, like KJK, by saying NO.
Interesting point. I think that's why I used to find it uncomfortable to watch her. Because she is a woman and she is so forthright and that is gender non-conforming. It's my pesky expectations of how men and women should behave and I have to challenge those expectations. Because if a man was saying what she said in the way she said it I'd be totally comfortable with it.
Basically, the issue is with me, not her. And again reinforces my view that it comes down to the substance of the arguments, that's the important thing, not who articulates them or who else happened to be there when they did so.

HappinessAlley · 08/12/2022 09:35

The major problem, as I am sure has been pointed out, is that he has shared platforms with pretty unpleasant people. If you're Joanne Bloggs, that's ok, but as Jerermy Corbyn found out, if you're a politician, you're getting to get attacked for those associations.

Yeah but Jeremy Corbyn went on a stage, on a panel, on Holocaust Memorial Day, at an event, with its name on a big banner behind him, saying ‘From Auschwitz to Gaza’. He put flowers on a terrorist’s grave.

KJKM on the other hand, has had an open to all event, that was open to all, and said it’s not on for little girls to wear head scarves, that exist to limit the sexual attractiveness of women to men.

It’s hardly comparable is it? And JC was the leader of the opposition whereas KJKM is unknown outside of this world and will lose her deposit.

CriticalCondition · 08/12/2022 15:31

That sounds a wonderful friendship JoodyBlue. And a great loss. Flowers

Ha, the little jokes and flirting didn't get to me at all. Not sure if that means I've advanced to ignoring them in the light of the wider message or is evidence I must try harder to challenge my expectations of female behaviour. 😁

Onnabugeisha · 08/12/2022 15:43

@RottingAutumnApples

“said it’s not on for little girls to wear head scarves, that exist to limit the sexual attractiveness of women to men.”

Setting aside your over-generalisation of hijab wearing, is this the tweet you are referring to?

The point is that Keir Starmer has a huge majority (27,000) and it will only be bigger in the next election. In reality, she’ll go around handing out leaflets, maybe do an interview on local TV. They’ll do one hustings with a few hundred people in the room, and on election night, he’ll romp home with a 40,000 majority and she’ll be stood there like Count Binface (or whatever his name is) being lucky to get her deposit back.

So umm why do you care?

In your version kier wins, and kjk loses.

As she isnt doing this to win, then alls good in your version and my version.
So not sure what the problem actually is.

MarshaBradyo · 08/12/2022 15:57

It doesn’t bother me, or her I suspect, that votes won’t win it

But where she’ll be great is getting the issue in the media
