Interested about the “outside body” coming in & laying into HF in her absence.

This is what Stonewall did with Garden Court Chambers over Alison Bailey.

That is a very good point.
I wonder who was behind that particular tactic?

MagpiePi · 05/12/2022 16:38

I loved this interview!
It was so refreshing to hear a woman speaking about her own experiences, which included holding and expressing 'reality-based feminist' views.

I am hopeful that the tanker is turning.

I'm old enough to remember when the Times and - especially - the Sunday Times were very progressive newspapers. Before Murdoch got his saurian claws into them of course.

Murdoch took them over with the explicit promise of no editorial control. They remained good papers for investigative journalism and a range of views.

Yes I remember the promises he made to Harold Evans and others. All broken in jig time. My Times reading housemate took to the Independent in the mid 80s. But his malign influence is waning surely with the rise of social media.

TheaBrandt · 05/12/2022 16:50

Same Pronoun. The female columnist that insinuated it was the women’s fault there were mass sexual assaults and rapes because the victims had smartphones and a better lifestyle than the attackers. Literally couldn’t believe what I was reading. Oh and that was after steadfastly not reporting on the attacks at all for days.

Really something when the Mail and Times are better on women’s rights.

MangyInseam · 05/12/2022 16:51

DrBlackbird · 05/12/2022 11:08

The fact is that they should always have been taking social controversies seriously, and if their standard has been, it's progressive so we support it without asking questions, that has never been good. Progressive causes don't spring forth fully formed. Even something as broadly accepted now as racial issues - they've similarly accepted CT and id pol approaches uncritically as well, which has led to some pretty shit analysis.

I’m thinking more broadly of support for civil rights, women’s rights, worker’s rights, gay rights, awareness of environmental concerns as ‘laudable’. Not sure about the point being made that causes do not spring forth fully formed.

No, of course they don’t. Critical thinking was, had to be, applied to those issues long before as well as during the times that they could be discussed, challenged, amended.

Yet, critical thinking, IMO, seems to have suddenly been swapped for unthinking acceptance when it comes to gender ideology. Except for the work done on these threads.

That's pretty much my point though - they don't do much critical thinking in many other areas as well. Do you really see them taking as having taken a hard push at, say, the assumptions, not to mention the facts, around the BLM movement?

They haven't, because they think that's progressive racial politics, and that is not a good thing.

Thank you. Commented (never done that before!)

CaveMum · 05/12/2022 17:01

@TheBiologyStupid I agree this is not the time for a derail (entirely my fault for bringing it up!), but I’d recommend listening to the 6 part series on Allen v Farrow on the Real Crime Profile podcast. The presenters (one ex-FBI and one ex-Scotland Yard) do a very convincing deep dive into the evidence which is pretty compelling, in my opinion.

Part 1 - podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/real-crime-profile/id1081244497?i=1000518089651

The fact that the Judge presiding over the 1993 custody case said that Allen should be carefully monitored in future contact with the children, and that his behaviour towards Dylan was “grossly inappropriate and measures should be taken to protect her” is frequently glossed over by his PR team who have perpetually spun the case as a win for him.

Sausagenbacon · 05/12/2022 17:13

It was Gaby Hinsliff who wrote the frankly shameful Guardian article on Cologne NYE. And doubled down on it.
That was it for me.
I'm looking forward to settling down with a glass of sherry to enjoy the broadcast.

I'd like to pick up on the fact Emma defended the BBCs censorship of Jenni Murray on this issue because they need to be impartial.
Do we have examples of BBC employees stating transwomen are women? And were they censored after that?

Mollyollydolly · 05/12/2022 17:47

Positive feedback left. I'd encourage everyone to do this. As an ex BBC employer I know management teams do look at them. They are collated and can be viewed by staff.

KatMcBundleFace · 05/12/2022 17:48

Interesting scrolling through examples of bias collected by 2018 us.
Although so far it seems institutional.
The same group Hadley mentioned... All About Trans was it? Anyway, as well as the Guardian guess what else they were messing with? The BBC!

KatMcBundleFace · 05/12/2022 17:58

On my trip down memory lane another article full of pro trans bbc bias

www.spectator.co.uk/article/is-the-bbc-scared-of-the-transgender-debate/

KatMcBundleFace · 05/12/2022 18:09

I mean the BBC literally hired Ben Hunte, who was about as far removed from unbiased as its possible to be.

It's interesting wading through the examples of institutional capture, and I can't help thinking, I know Emma was being defensive, but the BBC need to learn from this. Not pretend it didn't happen

Telegraph write up here:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/12/05/hadley-freeman-atmosphere-fear-governs-guardian-trans-coverage/

Feels slightly gleeful to me, a newspaper enjoying another paper being accused of perpetuating a climate of fear. But given their record compared to the Guardian I understand why

KatMcBundleFace · 05/12/2022 18:21

Oh look!!! Here's All About Trans giving Evan Davis "small nudges".... and which defender of how to hide stuff on your hard drive is involved in this. Why Jane Fae.

Where did they get the money to influence all these media organisations?
onroadmedia.org.uk/work/all-about-trans/

“I realised that it’s not about one big change in behaviour; it’s more about a change of mindset that leads to small nudges in the direction of sensitivity and awareness!”

Evan Davis, Presenter, BBC Newsnight

KatMcBundleFace · 05/12/2022 18:26

I hope twitter is sending every single one of these institutions a link to Hadleys women's hour interview.

Bloody chilling.

All About Trans, clearly got the meno from Dentons.

But bear in mind that if the BBC sends a copyright notice, youtube will take it down immediately.

Thanks for the link.

corlan · 05/12/2022 18:35

No surprise to see the City of London on that list. They've taken every opportunity to open safe spaces for women up to any man that wants entry.

WarriorN · 05/12/2022 18:35

Oooh slight hint of a terfy joke by Jack Dee on I haven't a clue just now.

(New definitions for words)
"Transplant is a gender fluid geranium..."

WarriorN · 05/12/2022 18:36

Good research Kat, thanks!

About to listen, but had to share my annoyance at having searched 'woman' on bbc sounds. First on the list 'Just a woman'... the 5th (!) series about Amy, an '18 year old woman who just happens to be trans'. Above woman's hour.

ArabellaScott · 05/12/2022 19:03

Okay, about to start listening and will start a transcript, too. Will have to wine through a straw ...
