Apologies if this has already been covered but could the basis of the CCs Inquiry be EDI?

I know the initial complainants were about safeguarding but The Times article said something else came to light. Also the press release from Mermaids focuses on EDI and the work that needs to be done in that area.

The objects of Mermaids is to

relieve the mental and emotional stress of children and young people affected by gender identity issues and their families.

That means they should welcome all families and not discriminate against those with a protected characteristic. But don’t they currently discriminate against any parent who holds the protected belief that sex is immutable? Would they ever welcome or offer their service to such a parent?

I was wondering why they focused on EDI, too.

At first I assumed that it was because they still really don’t comprehend the sheer scale of their shortcomings, a sort of organisational Dunning Kruger effect, and that the literal only crime that they can conceive of is a failure of diversity. Honestly, I’m half way to believing that, because it is of course, the greatest heresy and apostasy.

But now I’m curious as to whether it’s in response to…something. Like you say, could a parent have made a complaint about the affirmation only model being discriminatory? Homophobic even? I am thinking of Fox Fishers remarks about “deviancy”, but maybe worse…

I am struggling to think of any other professional, serious organisation who would react to the announcement of an inquiry with doubling down on the narrative of “It’s all a conspiracy!” and rattling the tip jar. Incredible.

They appear to have taken down the "Under Attack" page from the site

I should think so.

That was safeguarding disaster number 5 if I have it right - it was getting hard to keep count.

We are seeing traces, keep watching, for the 'TQ+ political groups should be exempt from the fascism of standards, regulations, safeguarding, law' line. It is an argument that TQ+ politics is by itself pure, anything it does is pure, and questioning it or criminally investigating it for obvious disasters and failures instead of unquestioningly praising, is an act motivated only by prejudice.

I sincerely hope that is an attitude very, very thoroughly explored in the coming investigation.

The wording is indeed interesting: the safeguarding disasters were bad enough (ONE of them would have been bad enough) but it sounds like much more and much more fundamentally concerning things, have been discovered.

It is never nice to be right in this kind of thing, but yet again its proven that women sounding the alarm have good reason to do so.

ResisterRex · 02/12/2022 18:29

But no one would ever do that with bad things in mind...

Of course not! Because the one group of people you can rely on to do the right thing is sex offenders. Any fule no that.

I found this tweet in the Nurtural twitter account linked up thread, it's a bit of a tangent but I thought it deserved an audience

The replies are good too.

Ooft. That really lays it all bare. There's a reckoning due & I expect it to be fully inclusive of everything & everyone. No exceptions.

Boiledbeetle · 02/12/2022 18:54

FusilliFettler · 02/12/2022 18:52

Hope the cat ones are good today then.

And thank you for the exceptionally quick response.

Yup, that's my assessment too. They have no defence. No explanation. Nowhere to run

That struck me too. The stuff already in the public domain is awful. But it sounds like there’s even worse to come to light.

It would be good if we (as a society) could learn how important it is to interrogate the things we assume must be good. So much is covered up by fig leaves people are scared to challenge (because they’ll be torn down as a transphobe or far right stooge or whatever).

I bet Susie is on another flight to Thailand right now.

SG wouldn't be welcome there, the Thailand Government changed their laws regarding SRS on the back of what SG did to her child in their country.

IcaketherforeIam the tweet you shared sums up the whole hideous state of affairs, very sad and poignant.

SidewaysOtter · 02/12/2022 19:06

What I notice about the Mermaids statement tweet, is how little traction it’s getting. Very few likes and I would put good money on a percentage of few quote tweets being critical.

Have all the TRAs and their Handmaids realised the jig is up?

They are backing away and the denials they supported them will be coming along soon, unfortunately for them the internet never forgets and people have collected the receipts.

We are definitely going to be treated to we didn't know/weren't aware/if we had known shit coming from some celebrity quarters soon.

Birdsweepsin · 02/12/2022 19:11

... well. Are all those people who signed the anti- Suzanne Moore letter going to walk now?

MoirasSaggyBundles · 02/12/2022 19:12

The parallel with Kids Company that I think that will come out, is the unthinking corporate bandwagoning of whatever the IT charity of the day is, preferably one lauded by celebs, liberal politicians and lickspittal journalists. I remember the managing partner of my firm was desperate to climb on the KC wagon whilst having not one clue what they stood for - and certainly not giving a fuck about poor kids of colour and their lives. It was all for image. They all scattered when the shit hit the fan.

Watching these rats - these corporates, the TV producers with the their rainbow washed specials, the celebs like Watson and Radcliffe, orgs like Girl Guiding, and the "journalists" that have refused to apply any critical thinking skills to MM (BBC the worst) - flee the sinking ship will be edifying. But they must not be let off the hook. This all happened on their watch and with their complicity, while they betrayed girls, women and mothers and allowed them to be abused and screamed at and branded as bigots.

LaughingPriest · 02/12/2022 19:16

I decided this morning not to dick about on MN today so totally missed this! That's me learnt!

No they mustn't be let off the hook, they must be forced to face what they bought into, promoted and supported and what they did and said to those who raised concerns.

I'll say it again a full Public Enquiry is needed here.

The bbc report also interestingly described Mermaids a s a charity that “aims to help transgender children”< not that does.

Frankly, it's a toss up for me.

I can't be the only one who hopes Bell sees fit to consult the author of the leading book in this area of law, RMW.
