This thread is to replace the one that got deleted earlier today, and the TAATs that came after it.

As per MNHQ in site stuff, we're OK to have this conversatrion

Important that we can discuss these problems!
No sacred caste!

@rushingfool said this on the site stuff thread

It's cultural and has its roots in the false narrative peadalled in some countries that Western women are all 'up for it'. Education needs to start in those countries, in their schools and villages.

I think it's important

Most people want to discuss this without being offensive.
I certainly do, I saw what happened I was close to Rotherham and we can't let it happen again.

Yes, it's important to be able to discuss this issue

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 28/11/2022 18:51

and for what it's worth, I think the way we ensure it can be discussed is by people engaging.

there were a couple of posts on the other thread that made me go 'uh oh, dodgy'

but what I should have done is asked the poster to clarify. it's possible i'd misunderstood. or they'd expressed themselves clumsily (v easy to do on this subject).

like our monitors, I leapt to the conclusion that they were racist

I didn't see the previous threads, but I agree with this.

WishingWell5 · 28/11/2022 18:53

It was well known and discussed by myself and friends as young teens, way before Rotherham was a known thing. And I live in a rural location in the SW...

This discusses these matters and the author can hardly be called "racist"...

This makes me think about how my mum talks about her friend that she’s known since she started work (so in the late 60’s/early 70’s). The friend was from Sweden. For some reason that meant that nearly every man at work thought he could try and get her into bed.
When my dad asked my mum out, my mum’s friend said that he was the only man at work who had treated her decently. My mum agreed to the date, and here I am!

It’s not new. It’s not unique to ‘foreigners’.

LondonWolf · 28/11/2022 19:00

can you be specific about your fear here?

Yes. I believe there will come a time, as new generations are born, that these issues will diminish. Youngsters born and brought up here will assimilate and absorb values, which don't involve the oppression, disrespect and dehumanisation of western women. I already see this amongst my teenagers friends. I think we are going to have to wait a long time though and many of us won't be here to see the current issues disappear entirely.

Hooverphobe · 28/11/2022 19:06

“education needs to start in those countries, in their schools and villages.”

given the particular demographics we’re aware of, we can’t even get girls an education, never mind modernise 1000s of years of patriarchy.

plus, should we “interfere” in foreign education policy, we’ll be called colonials.

Toseland · 28/11/2022 19:07

The thing that gets me is that Rotherham could be stopped, Cologne could have been stopped. We are all so used to hearing about this it's become the norm to think it is hard to stop but I bet it could be stopped, they just prefer for women to hear about it and live in fear and not complain because their lives ar'n't as bad as that. In a civilised society what is happening?!

Agree with this it isn't possible to get overseas attitudes to change to what we feel is acceptable the only way is to bring our standards up.

Where do you start with that while keeping cultural sensitivity though?

Talk to feminists in those countries. They do exist.

Mammillaria · 28/11/2022 19:16

This strikes me as such a massively complex issue.

it's not just culture. There's the purely demographic impact of lots of young men moving to one area. Women are at already risk when they make up half the population. do the values of a group of young men without family influence vary from a group of men within a 'normal' mixed age/sex community?

I'm not sure how long it takes but it's important to have the current issues addressed. I don't know how, though. It seems that we need to recruit men to help out and I'm not sure that will be do-able.

Yes. However I think the OP was trying to check if I am a racist posting with nefarious intent, hence asking me to clarify my position Smile

I agree entirely that current issues must be addressed. I just cannot see how that can be done given the strenuous turning of blind eyes.

So much talk of racism and bigotry yet it seems clear to me from these ongoing issues that the absolute bottom of the pile are white working class women and girls. No one gives a shit about them.

Where I live there are distinct areas that have issues with gangs of boys and men abusing and assaulting women and girls. I was shocked to find out this year even our main shopping centre has one of these groups deliberately mobbing girls to grope them.
now we have another area beside a refugee hotel that is becoming a problem and we're nowhere near the coast. I don't think feminists from the countries of origin can help with the growing issue of too many men without the basic social norms.

EmmaAgain22 · 28/11/2022 19:22

I asked on the other thread if anyone has experienced this in London. Myself and one other friend of the same ethnicity are having issues too. We are being approached differently, but aggressively, as if our skin colour means they think we are easily persuaded into dating them.

our white friends have worse experiences. I don't know how, or indeed if, the Home Office approaches these issues.

AltheaVestr1t · 28/11/2022 19:29

Lack of education, social disadvantage, poverty, pervasive outdated cultural views...these are the causes of violent crime and these problems are not confined to a single race or culture.
