It's incredibly desperate. Employee or daily rate doesn't exactly scream steady she goes.

Am tempted to offer one day a week from home. Happy can have the rest of week.

That's fine, but to make payroll's job easier would you mind identifying as Happylittlechicken for that one day?

I'm sure Happy will forward on to you your share of the wages.

Eventually!

Also I note they state they are for "children and young people aged 20 and under"

Please correct me if my memory is wrong but didn't they previously include up to 24/25 in some of their events/forums? Maybe I imagined it.

They now support up to age 25 from a start of up to 19.

Mission creep.

FannyCann · 02/12/2022 20:32

@Boiledbeetle So have they reduced the advertised age range as a start to tightening up boundaries etc for the Charity Commission investigation?

Mission creep…or…and I hate that I’m thinking this- somewhat realistic assessment of delay in maturity caused by puberty blockers, so what used to be a normal developmental stage for teens now extends well into young adulthood?

What a thought.

Boiledbeetle · 02/12/2022 20:40

I'm not to sure, but they used to go up to age 19 then I was reading something earlier which i now can't find that mentioned that they opened the age up having another group which went up to age 25.

So it ended up with parents of now adult children who had done the full journey of meds and surgery informing the parents of the younger children on the forums.

I've read to many different things today so I'm not much help.

BewaretheIckabog · 02/12/2022 20:42

Surely they weren’t running residential with vulnerable kids early or mid-teens and up to early mid-twenties. That would be a safeguarding nightmare.

Moonatics · 02/12/2022 20:49

That would be a safeguarding nightmare

Like that's ever stopped them before.

're the age thing I've found it, it was the link Rex posted earlier. It's on the second tweet of the complaint

Change of CEO at mermaids…
Happylittlechicken · 02/12/2022 20:59

@Boiledbeetle more than happy to share the wages. The rate they’re going I could be the only applicant lol. No one of the calibre to turn mermaids around seriously would apply for a job with an advert like that. They need an experienced ,capable CEO, that screams we’ll take anyone with a pulse. I’m a shoe in 😂😂😂

Boiledbeetle · 02/12/2022 21:02

@Happylittlechicken well with the CC going after mermaids that will cut the potential candidate pool immediately, so if you can manage to drum up a few more willing posters who then all throw the interview it will be down to between you and Nigel who's only qualification if that his mum's sisters husband's daughter is Brenda in accounts

So discriminating against potential service users on the basis of belief.

Happylittlechicken · 02/12/2022 21:07

I’ll find some. @Boiledbeetle I’m thinking of putting my car forward. He knows about as much about safeguarding and governance as the mermaids trustees. Maybe more.. he does watch judge Judy a lot.

I had been going for the age bit underneath, but the whole tweet complaint is worth a read as yes one of the things they did was discriminate against the families that didn't whole heartedly go yes medicate, then surgically remove/add bits

Boiledbeetle · 02/12/2022 21:12

@Happylittlechicken My car is useless, it can't even car properly, but my cat is currently giving his Arsehole as extra good clean in case his application is successful.

No mention of Susie Green's unexplained departure last week.

Yes there was, briefly - they said she quit.

Not on the website: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-63837761

It's just a clumsy way of saying that they'll accept PAYE or self-employed as they know there's likely to be a pitifully small number of people prepared to touch it with a barge pole. They'd still expect minimum hours / length of contract.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/12/02/mermaids-boss-forced-staff-revolted-against-incapable-leadership/

The Mermaids boss was forced out amid a staff revolt including complaints that she was not transgender.

Shocked staff were hauled into an “emergency meeting” on Friday with Dr Belinda Bell, the chair of trustees, and told Ms Green was gone and her replacement “needs strong EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) experience, ideally lived experience”, with some staff believing this means being transgender.

Ch3wylemon · 03/12/2022 09:25

Thanks for archive Telegraph article Signalbox. So it's either the lack of safeguarding or because SG wasn't trans enough. You have to feel for those who genuinely believe it's the latter.

pattihews · 03/12/2022 10:27

Ah, the Telegraph article outlines the new strategy. A woman called Susie Green did it and now she's run away. I'm trying to imagine office life at Mermaids. I imagine lots of squealing and squeaking and endless tears.

Axolotlquestions · 03/12/2022 10:29

I know - how could the office be anything other than a toxic mess of emotionally immature or narcissistic flouncers?

Yes they are definitely throwing her under the bus aren't they. "We'll be fine now Susie's gone. And with our shiny new trans CEO things will be much better."

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 03/12/2022 11:40

A trans CEO would really make it obvious that Mermaids is not longer a charity supporting the families of GNC/ gender distressed children. It's just a trans focused lobbying group. Could be an own goal for them. I agree with the pp who said Susie Green got listened to because she was a middle aged mother - she was a safe face.
