Since we're up to four (is it five?) major safeguarding public disasters, none of which seem to have been taken seriously or seen as an issue, the likelihood of more skeletons in the closet is high.

Boiledbeetle · 25/11/2022 18:38

Mermaids CEO Susie Green has left the charity after six years in charge.

Chair of Trustees Belinda Bell said: “The Trustees are very grateful to Susie for everything she has done over the last six years to support trans, non-binary and gender-diverse young people and their families, and to build Mermaids into the organisation it is today.

“We wish her all the best for the future.”

An interim CEO will be appointed shortly.

Well that's a very short, very bland statement that you usually only see when someone had been pushed out in a if you don't resign you're fired sort of way.

Added to the fact that she's gone without a replacement being hired!!!

I wonder when the judgement in the LGB Alliance case will be published. Suspect it may be a clusterfuck for Mermaids, and possibly very expensive

Am I the only one wondering if something interesting is coming in this weekend's papers?

This was my first thought!
Fingers crossed the whole thing tumbles down.

JoanOgden · 25/11/2022 18:41

Of course, as Mermaids launched the case, they will get to see an embargoed judgement before it is published

WhiteFire · 25/11/2022 18:43

Pushed? Jumped?

An interesting turn of events.

Good point indeed

WarriorN · 25/11/2022 18:47

Here we go...

wildseas · 25/11/2022 18:48

This is an ideal opportunity to have a g c mermaids ceo. How do we all apply?

Happylittlechicken · 25/11/2022 18:51

We could job share? Take it in turns?

RoyalCorgi · 25/11/2022 18:53

I think there's a strong likelihood that either a) they have had advance sight of the judgement in the LGBA case or b) the Charities Commission has been asking some difficult questions and finding some dubious practices.

Might be something else altogether, of course, but I think it's likely that something is afoot.

It makes the Guardian's recent decision to publish a piece that was nothing more than a PR platform for Green all the more delicious. They couldn't have made themselves look more foolish if they'd tried.

LosingTheWill2022 · 25/11/2022 18:53

Talk about damning with faint praise. That message speaks volumes- can't wait for what is going to follow.

donationsMakeMeFeelBetter · 25/11/2022 18:54

Wouldn't LGB Alliance get to see the embargoed judgement at the same time, though? They wouldn't necessarily announce it was coming, I suppose - maybe there's even a rule or convention that only the one bringing the case does that? Or even, only they get prior sight? Anyone know?

dropthevipers · 25/11/2022 18:57

Ha fucking ha.

JoanOgden · 25/11/2022 18:58

Yes, LGB Alliance will get sight of the judgement at the same time, but I don't think they can announce that it's coming. And presumably they don't need to sack anyone as a result!

NonHypotheticalLurkingParent · 25/11/2022 18:59

There’s just so many reasons for her leaving it’s hard to pick just one….

embargoed report from the judgement.

evidence from the Cass report that places her in the centre of advocating for/dictating harmful treatments of children at GIDS

evidence that safeguarding was ignored, because a paedophilic trustee worked a a stellar university

who knows?

RosalindsAFuckingNightmare · 25/11/2022 18:59

There’s no way she would have quit. No way. Don’t let the door slam your arse on the way out Susie.

Altoo · 25/11/2022 18:59

Couldn't have happened to a nicer person

How long after them seeing the announcement are we likely to know the results do you know?

BewaretheIckabog · 25/11/2022 19:02

After the LGB Alliance debacle, appointment of unsuitable trustee and self-reporting several incidents to the charity commission, many of us speculated getting rid of SG was the only way Mermaids could survive.

Having to close / reduce hours on the phone lines and chat lines seemed to me that had not properly checked and trained volunteers.

I can imagine there were very few checks in place and generic policies and procedures were not reviewed or followed.

I can’t imagine the spotlight on her own parenting decisions helped either.

It does feel like a huge moment and could be the turning point in how we support gender non-conforming kids away from affirmation without question and medicalisation. Let’s hope proper support follows.

Both parties get to see the judgement - and both must keep it secret.

Apollo442 · 25/11/2022 19:03

But why would she leave? She was on the 'right' side of history surely?
I'm sure LOJ will be leaping to her defence any moment now.

JennyForeigner · 25/11/2022 19:04

Charities governance and leadership is much field. I have very rarely seen a statement as terse as that.

Right after he comments on the Graun's piece on the Tavistock...

Happylittlechicken · 25/11/2022 19:05

Looking forward to Jameela Jamil and Emma Watson’s messages of love and support……
