I am in the camp that what happened to her child was no different to FGM.

Technically the child was 16 so could consent but after 14 years brainwashing and grooming, affirming they were a girl and needed the treatment, they would not have capacity to dissent.

No different to a cult where it’s ok for kids to marry older men because that’s what the lord wants.

Many of those girls were also told they were chosen and special and it was their destiny.

@BewaretheIckabog
I am in the camp that what happened to her child was no different to FGM.

It is cut of the same cloth but much larger in scope to FGM. The outcome is much worse, and there are very very few things in life much worse than FGM.

Ramblingnamechanger · 25/11/2022 22:41

Wow… it would be good to what Alex Sobel (MP for Leeds NW) has to say about this. He was really proud to be associated with MM and SG. Told me he wasn’t going to comment until investigations were complete.

NoFlowersForEmily · 25/11/2022 22:42

Tick tock susie.
Hopefully she will end up in prison for child abuse.
It is illegal to take a child to a foreign country to have genital mutilation. She did it and not only got away with it but was lauded for it and made documentaries and ted talks about it.
How is this woman not in prison??
I'm wondering how Wagamama and Starbucks and the rest are feeling right now.
Wagamama you should be ashamed and also looking into who you hired who sent you down this dead end path.

BewaretheIckabog · 25/11/2022 22:44

In many cases I see nuance and complexity but for a long time I have thought Susie Green should be in prison.

Managinggenzoclock · 25/11/2022 22:48

I read it and assumed that charity commission have uncovered something and have suggested to the trustees that they would be negligent in their duties if they don’t remove her ASAP.
I don’t think in and of itself the “minor attracted persons” LSE bloke would be enough to cause this sudden exit weeks after.

Fenlandia · 25/11/2022 22:51

Currently the story is the 5th most viewed on the Guardian website, and top in the Society section. The gender identity piece from earlier this week is also in the top ten most-viewed in the Society section. Sunlight for those Guardian readers who like mushrooms have been kept in the dark and fed shit for years.

BewaretheIckabog · 25/11/2022 22:53

Whilst I despise what SG did herself, she was also a Stonewall stooge pigeon.

BewaretheIckabog · 25/11/2022 22:54

Stool pigeon

I think there's a strong likelihood that either a) they have had advance sight of the judgement in the LGBA case or b) the Charities Commission has been asking some difficult questions and finding some dubious practices.

Might be something else altogether, of course, but I think it's likely that something is afoot.

It makes the Guardian's recent decision to publish a piece that was nothing more than a PR platform for Green all the more delicious. They couldn't have made themselves look more foolish if they'd tried.

Wouldn't surprise me if the responses Susie Green gave in that were part of the reason for her sudden departure.

As i said on the other thread Green's response was particularly weak when you consider that all you had to do was look on Breslow's LSE profile and see the phrases child's desire and porn studies to see the problem.

Hardly hidden away from a simple Google search. And boy did it show.

It struck me as an admission of how bad safeguarding was because she could not comprehend being able to do more than she did to vet people.

That involves liability.

I do have to say it would not surprise me to see a high profile poster child (or children) pushed by parents eventually detransistioning and all hell breaking loose in the aftermath. There are numerous candidates for this shit show not just Susie Green.

Have to say its a big risk having a safeguarding lead who deliberately bypassed ethics committees and laws in this country and caused another country to change its laws to safeguard children when your own charity is getting multiple safeguarding failures.

Its worth stressing that Susie Green understood the safeguarding protocols in the uk - she also understood how to wilfully bypass them. And Mermaids has been continuing to do similar by doing things like signposting to the Webberleys and sending out binders.

Susie Green's problem with paedo friendly and porn friendly appointments therefore rests with her proven and deliberate ignoring of safeguarding protocols. She can't argue she didn't know about safeguarding kids when she went about avoiding those protocols when it suited her agenda.

Any liability incoming to Mermaids has that gem headed to them like a freight train in a court room.

The trustees themselves have kept her in place for 6 years despite this - and every single safeguarding fail have continued to have confidence in her as CEO. I believe dear Belinda here is the most exposed on that front as the only (?) long standing trustee (don't know about the anonymous trustees). It's really not a great look for Belinda. The newer trustees can claim somewhat differently.

IMHO there are a few other faces at Mermaids who need a big push too. Belinda may wish to identify with the bottom of this list.

I don't think that video thing she streamed during the LGBA case did her any favours either, it just showed to the world that SG had no fucking idea how to behave in the role she held.

@VestofAbsurdity is the video still available?

VestofAbsurdity · 25/11/2022 23:01

BornBlonde · 25/11/2022 22:57

@VestofAbsurdity is the video still available?

No. It was removed but was mentioned/possibly shown to the Judge in the ongoing Court Case. I have a feeling it was on the Good Law Twitter which just shows how much they know or respect the Law.

It was so epically idiotic, SG clearly though herself above the restrictions applied during ongoing court cases which seems a feature not a bug.

VestofAbsurdity · 25/11/2022 23:02

It probably has been downloaded and saved somewhere but no idea where.

LizzieSiddal · 25/11/2022 23:07

This is such good news. Mind you I suspect the trustees will try to blame her for everything and rebrand themselves with a fresh start, which worries me.

RedToothBrush · 25/11/2022 23:07

To be a fly on the wall of when Susie was told she was resigning.

I wonder how much shouting and screaming occurred.

I'd love for someone with no self awareness filter to have filmed that one!

Yes.

NewLightbulbs · 25/11/2022 23:15

This is very good news on Susie Green's departure from Mermaids.

I still cannot understand how SG took her 15-year-old son away to a foreign country, and had serious, non-reversible surgery carried out on him, on his 16th birthday. Because he liked playing with dolls when he was small. That is fucked up in all ways.

NewLightbulbs · 25/11/2022 23:18

I mean, my own son's 16th, we all went for a fancy pizza with glorious ice creams, and a good walk along the coast!

DaughterOfPsychiatrist · 25/11/2022 23:21

VestofAbsurdity · 25/11/2022 23:02

It probably has been downloaded and saved somewhere but no idea where.

The video that Green uploaded to Twitter in the middle of the LGBA tribunal (and deleted shortly again within an hour or two) is available to view on page 42 of the Mermaids thread over on Kiwi Farms dot net.

Dontaskdontget · 25/11/2022 23:31

GrrrrAReform · 25/11/2022 17:59

I wonder if she'll pop up elsewhere? Who's going to step into those illustrious shoes? Many people disliked the fact that SG was a woman and not trans.

Bet you ÂŁ50 the new CEO of Mermaids is a biological man who just adores working with young children and talking to them about sex.

lifeturnsonadime · 25/11/2022 23:31

Ok so what I do hope is that all of the poor children, like Green's own child will find some peace in this.
I hope that someone is picking up the pieces. Because there are many broken lives, not just the ones who have already made decisions but also the ones on a promise.
These are children. i really hope someone is looking after the children who believed Green would save their world . this is going to be hard for them too.

lifeturnsonadime · 25/11/2022 23:33

And i know that Green's child is an adult now but many many vulnerable children will be feeling a lot of pain. T'hey need some very very careful handling. lots of people have lied to them. I just feel so desperately sorry for them .

BellaAmorosa · 25/11/2022 23:39

MoirasSaggyBundles · 25/11/2022 21:37

Suing the mother for personal injury, procuring bodily harm through puberty blockers, followed by a coercive operation in a foreign country, where the child could not reasonably have been a consenting party.

Not just the mother. Don't let the father off the hook. He could have accepted his gay child. He could have prevented the trip to Thailand. He could have shut down the social transition and administration of puberty blockers.
SG took her child for the operation, but both parents are culpable.

Well said. Society has not just stood by, but actively funded and enabled groups like Mermaids from the very top of government, the media and entertainment.
The harm done to children is unthinkable and yes, they need thoughtful and loving care as they come to terms with what's been done to their once perfect bodies and their futures.
