Well, here we are...

OP posts:
WindyHedges · 26/11/2022 13:50

Welcome! <brings out the cake and coffee>

I'm part of a couple of other discussion boards - one of which is pretty liberal about discussing women's rights. So I'm lucky, but also aware how rare that freedom is.

dollymixedup · 26/11/2022 14:13

It's Pink here. I reactivated my old MN account - don't want to lose touch with so many of you lifeboatees.

I am deeply unhappy with how you have been treated and how the site is dealing with what's going on. I am trying to come to terms with losing the site, but as I said over there this leaves me with a bleak gap in my life. It really was a place where I felt included - something which I don't have in RL very much. Some of you are the kindest, cleverest and well informed people in my life.

ExiledElsie · 26/11/2022 14:22

We may have brought a few men over with us.

Like some of the others I've been here ages, just name change every so often. Came for the madness of AIBU, learned a lot from the relationships board and stayed for the feminism.

ExiledElsie · 26/11/2022 14:24

I'd have probably stayed for the entertainment value of AIBU actually. But FWR is why I'm currently composing a response to the gids interim specification consultation.

Nice to see you, and thanks for the support. I feel sorry for people caught up in the fall out.

"We may have brought a few men over with us."

Me, for one. I considered adding (bloke) to my username but decided against it. I created an account here ages ago to follow a particular discussion though I don't think I ever posted. Hope it's okay to be here, I will almost certainly restrict myself to this thread or possibly others on this specific topic and will try to be on best behaviour, and may not post as regularly as I used to in the other place. I'm conscious that this is a different environment, just grateful to be able to follow so many of the posters I've been reading and learning from on this topic for a long time now.

TricyrtisJTT · 26/11/2022 15:05

BNBN, there are other men who post here and, as far as I'm concerned, you're welcome here. You're the Right Sort.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 26/11/2022 15:10

bignosebignose there are lots of men on mnet you will be welcome here.

crabbyoldbat · 26/11/2022 15:25

You do realise we pinched much of it from MN anyway, don't you? Some of us (me) will look a lot less knowledgeable now

ExiledElsie · 26/11/2022 16:02

Ha yes crabby.

TricyrtisJTT · 26/11/2022 16:15

Been thinking about what's happened for much of the day and am feeling rather cross.

Reading in the Other Place about how the site will move forward, more than one poster said that we should have been banned long ago and good riddance to all of us. I felt like we'd been labelled vermin and Open Season had been declared. Having thought that, I'm not sure I can participate there again, it's too humiliating.

weaseleyes · 26/11/2022 16:19

I felt like that too, @TricyrtisJTT , even though I hadn't posted on the thread! Just knowing that a group of hugely longstanding posters can be so quickly ostracised for having the wrong views has completely tainted my view.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2022 16:24

I used to post on the board in question but left over this issue a long time ago, I recognise many of you.

WallaceinAnderland · 26/11/2022 16:28

Hope any mn newbies settle in and enjoy the site. MN has a reputation for being a nest of vipers a little, er, robust at times, so I would recommend reading around the boards a bit to get a feel for it and don't take other's opinions too seriously. We also suffer from lots of trolls as certain sections of society hate our freedoms here (similar to the thread you had to abandon unfortunately), so you may see goady posts. Apart from that, all is wonderful.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2022 16:31

Ugh, yes our MN trolls are another level and have included some of the worst Twitter trolls. But it is great here. I've made RL friends just like people had on the other site, it may seem an overwhelmingly large site in but FWR is a real community.

murasaki · 26/11/2022 16:35

Thanks to MN poster for the welcome, and good to see the exiles here.

I'm still struggling with us all being branded bigots and evil, no one was trying to deny trans people the same rights as everyone else, and indeed I can't see what rights they don't have bar the right to dictate my thoughts.

And the hounding of women off the other site is, as said, not a new thing. The funny not funny thing is that is has happened to women on both side of the debate, most of whom can interact perfectly well on other topics amd like each other.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2022 16:40

I also remember that several women left when I was still there because of male trolling on the feminism thread.

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 26/11/2022 16:42

Good to see you pinkgum and thanks for your support for us despite our different views.

Onwards and upwards!

That trolling is, or was, ongoing and very dull indeed. It's partly what's caused all this, I think. One or two users endlessly sea-lioning and repeatedly asking for every little detail to explained. Then that crazy one who just came on the thread to hurl abuse.

WindyHedges · 26/11/2022 16:48

I used to post on the board in question but left over this issue a long time ago, I recognise many of you.

I'm now curious (read: nosy) about what the Other Place is ...

ArabellaScott · 26/11/2022 16:50

I googled and found it very quickly, WindyHedges. Which might be worth noting for those posting here, btw.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/11/2022 16:55

Then that crazy one who just came on the thread to hurl abuse.

I know which one you mean.

Kucinghitam · 26/11/2022 16:56

Reading in the Other Place about how the site will move forward, more than one poster said that we should have been banned long ago and good riddance to all of us. I felt like we'd been labelled vermin and Open Season had been declared.

Well, I suppose it is refreshing that honesty has at last prevailed and the mask has been dropped 🤷🏻‍♀️I haven't looked on there since I logged off last night, and it sounds like it is for the best.

In my usual/old MN username I have been involved in quite a number of previous FWR discussions of how pseudoreligious hypocritical pious fraud is a characteristic of some The Right Side Of History people. And the eager readiness to deliver sneering deliberate misrepresentation upon those who they've decided are Wrong. We see it on FWR and Twitter and the Other Place and, well, everywhere.

In completing my full migration to MN, I've decided I shall mostly stick with this username at least whilst on FWR. Feels a bit more "me" somehow.

Winterborne74 · 26/11/2022 16:56

We used to post on the Guardian talk boards which were unplugged in 2011. One of the posters there created a replica site for the newly homeless talk community. It’s a legacy site. I think there’s a reticence to name it so as not to cause further trouble. I personally feel no such loyalty, but respect the views and community spiritedness of my fellow witches.

Dotellhimpike · 26/11/2022 16:56

Hello everyone, couldn't use my other name as it was already taken but I'm sure you can all work out who I was. Thank you to all the lovely regular Mumsnetters who have been so welcoming to the thread and newbies, I'm another bloke as it happens.

Am not particularly sorry at what has happened but am a little angry at how decent people are being treated and spoken of over there. I won't go in to detail here because I don't think it's fair to criticise people who don't have a right to answer back, and I don't want to go in to detail over there because that will just cause a sh*tstorm, so I guess I'll just have to let it go.
