Well, here we are...

OP posts:
CyanCyan · 29/11/2022 18:47

I was about to post a picture of another interesting-looking creature my farmer friend sent me, only to realise it was in fact also a texel sheep, only black. It looks like a sheep/cow/bat mashup.

Ginmonkeyagain · 29/11/2022 18:54

I like to think of people rushing here to see what we awful people are talking about and finding a conversation about chonky sheep.

Totally needing that picture for...reasons. & welcome all 🙂

My dad is a sheep farmer and keeps Southdowns.

They look like teddy bear/sheep hybrids.

Haha!

I love sheep (not like that) - they just look so comfy, like mobile sofas. And it's just as well I like them, seeing as all the nice walking countryside around here is sheep.

The rectangular sheep were the first ones I've ever backed away from.

Gonners · 29/11/2022 19:21

Arf. On another board I frequent (full of reprehensible people, obvs) a photo of a Valois Blacknose took us off-topic for days.

Gonners · 29/11/2022 19:24

And for the first time I've messed up my formatting. Rats! I was feeling so smug about it, too. That first sentence was quoting Gin.

ExiledElsie · 29/11/2022 19:24

Seeing as mumsnet threads only last to 1000 posts, I wonder if we could keep this going similar to on the old site but add "chat" to the name?

I always felt the thread worked well asa complement to Mumsnet's "single topic per thread" as it was like a summary thread covering everything going on briefly.

Then it could work both to keep us a bit together but also for MN regulars.

Does that make any sense? If not, just carry on with the sheep talk.

ExiledElsie · 29/11/2022 19:25

Haha gonners, I've done that before when switching between the boards.

Kucinghitam · 29/11/2022 19:30

@ExiledElsie I made a general chat thread here for non-FWR ramblings, and hopefully that one may enjoy a series of reincarnations.

Hi Lawls!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 29/11/2022 19:53

Southdown sheep are a breed I wasn't familiar with, so I had a look - they are very teddybearish. And I love the breed description:

'A good Southdown should first and foremost be a sound and correct sheep ... . A Southdown should also be a “Good Sheep”. Please refer to the Southdown Sheep Society Technical Guidance on what makes a “Good Sheep”.'

weaseleyes · 29/11/2022 19:55

Blimey, that's a sheep and a half.

MissLawls · 29/11/2022 19:59

Hi @TheMorrigans yes I know who you is!

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 29/11/2022 20:35

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 28/11/2022 14:55

Anyway. Tempted to drop this into the old place to see if gay men's concerns are treated the same way as women's

I won't, but it's an interesting thought experiment

Gay Men's Network concerns re Tavistock and NHS gender care

Please pop in on Dennis's thread on here. Come on in, the water's lovely and warm!

Kucinghitam · 29/11/2022 20:48

I've lurked on that thread, very good links!

Splatterwack · 30/11/2022 07:50

This is just my personal point of view, and inspired by waking up far too early and checking out the lifeboat thread in the other place, but I strongly disagree with posting links to trans related topics on that thread. The linked one in particular I would also have objected on our old pariah thread, and I'm very uncomfortable with the associations being made. It serves only to demonise trans people and sow division, and I am absolutely not on board with that.

Ginmonkeyagain · 30/11/2022 08:04

I can see you point and I thought it unwise.

However I think the point the poster was making was not "trans people are abusers" but " this is an example of who might get in to the female estate if Self ID is passed".

These discussions are uncomfortable and absolutely need to be carried out in a way that does not demonise groups of people. To me the gender identity and trans status of the perpetrator does not matter EXCEPT for the fact that laws some are pushing or see as no issue might allow a male sex abuser to end up in the female estate. That is what matters, not how the offender dresses, presents or identifies

This is why "no debate" is not helpful as it prevents those issues being identifed and separated.

But I agree putting it in to the current febrile atmosphere of the Other Place was not a good idea.

DeanVolecapeAKAelderberry · 30/11/2022 08:11

febrile is right, the person who lit the fuse on all this last week is back on the civil war thread, describing us as shitstains, odious lowlife, bigoted scum. Also saying that they radicalized a then close friend of mine - I suspect that might be our core crime.

I'm still posting on neutral threads over there, but have gone right off some people, and would certainly not discuss anything related to women's or girls' rights.

Winterborne74 · 30/11/2022 08:14

Thirded, from a point of view of moving on and not sabotaging what's left of the site.

Nevertheless, the results were instructive and reminded me of that Ricky Gervais sketch: "He might rape me with his penis" "HER penis, you bigot!"

What matters is that a teacher raped a pupil and we are absolutely not allowed to observe the pattern of male violence against women and girls. Not relevant.

Splatterwack · 30/11/2022 08:15

In this case however the trans identity of the perpetrator doesn't seem to be relevant to the case - the transwoman is a family friend, and laws about access to women's spaces are irrelevant to the victim. The ONLY thing that would be an issue is if the perpetrator is then sent to a woman's prison.

Regardless, any posting on the topic in the old place is a terrible idea.

Splatterwack · 30/11/2022 08:16

I meant to say the only thing that would be a relevant issue - obviously the whole thing is a big issue generally.

Tricyrtis2022 · 30/11/2022 08:22

describing us as shitstains, odious lowlife, bigoted scum

Wow. Not much to be said to that.
