We can't have Bunburys but we can have a cheer up thread for recipes and nonsense - unrelated to any other that reads and just for ourselves to discuss purple scarves and green skirts and cats. Is anyone preparing for Xmas yet? I'm going to buy a Christmas cake from the bakers and feed it some brandy (no time to bake one).

That reads?

I'm looking forward to putting my try up, I've got all kinds of random stuff on it, I love it and I love adding to the decorations each year. Coming across this thread has given me the idea of making, buying or finding something festively suffragettie for it. Thank you OP.

Ideas anyone?

Quiet Christmas for us.
I'm planning to try to find the tiny cookie cutters that make little gingerbread houses that sit on the side of your mug.
Really very into hot chocolate this year because it makes my DP happy and because I just got a velvetiser.
It turns out she likes the chilli hot chocolate, which has surprised me.

These trees would look nice with suffragette colour stripes

MrsTerryPratchett · 23/11/2022 02:37

I'm going away this year to avoid my family but to add to the mug biscuits, I can add stand up gingerbread Christmas trees. You need a cut out pattern to fit them together.

The instructions for this look a lot easier to follow.

Tree cookies sound very excellent

This year’s festive cake will be something from a shop, with a sprig of fake holly bunged on it that I already own, wrapped in ribbons of purple, green and white.

I am not one of life’s natural crafters.

Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.

I had crafting thrust upon me.

Crafting Christmas gifts using some garden witchery. Essentially dried lavender from my garden sewed up in my grandmother's embroidered hankerchiefs. Purple and white delights to line my sisters' drawers. Halloween SmileWine

I'm on my annual hunt for a royal iced Christmas cake but they seem to be getting harder to find every year. Waitrose seem to have stopped doing them. Might have to splash out for the Betty's one but it's so bloody expensive.

Rightsraptor · 23/11/2022 06:46

Does anyone do Christmas decorations in suffragette colours?

BenCoopersSupportWren · 23/11/2022 06:48

I am still heavily in denial over Christmas. It’s about four months away yet, yes? Yes? YES?

Icake, the Museum of London online shop has felt suffragette tree decorations. They’re not the cheapest but you can’t get much more suffragettesque!

Musomama1 · 23/11/2022 07:39

Made the most amazing mince pies with a BBC recipe and Lidl mincemeat. Baklava next!

picklemewalnuts · 23/11/2022 08:00

That sounds like an excellent excuse to get some new decs!

I watched a good video about reworking old baubles. Involved hot glue! One was string coiled around the bauble. One was torn paper from old books. One was baking powder, so it looked frosted.

That could easily be done in a green, purple and white theme!

Little ribbons to hang them instead of strings... bob's your uncle!

MrsWooster · 23/11/2022 08:02

stand up Christmas tree biscuits might be nice but beware trying stand-up-snowmen. This 🍆 was not the look I was going for…

I've obviously missed something! I've hidden all the Xmas threads.

So what's this crap? Can someone please explain without mentioning fucking Christmas and (even worse) crafts!!

Yours

The Grinch.

picklemewalnuts · 23/11/2022 08:29

This is the feminism board, Slig. There will have been some controversy so people want a safe light chatty spot to defuse, distract, decompress.

It can get tense and frustrating round here at times.

It's a huge responsibility trying to hold the line on 'up is not down', without using relevant words which can get you banned or deleted.

JoodyBlue · 23/11/2022 08:36

Super job @MrsWooster Also placing the buttons vertically rather than horizontally is a good move 😂

JoodyBlue · 23/11/2022 08:38

I might have some green, white and violet ribbon in my drawer from something - can't remember what - will look nice tied around my parcels.

And he's not even "standing up"!

VeronicaBeccabunga · 23/11/2022 09:01

I am about to start a kumihimo braid in suffragette colours for a wristband.
The origami star is for the kitchen: I cut squares from the Waitrose christmas food brochure, I'm easily amused. I might declare it a piece of conceptual art about women's work over the festive season 😂

Thanks. Between the two of you, I've spat my tea out at the cat!

This thread is very cheering. I do wish I could follow a crochet pattern but my brain just won't comply.
