Telegraph: Stonewall urges employers to give trans staff two email addresses so they can swap gender identities

Quite a long article, some highlights below:

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2022/11/12/stonewall-urges-employers-give-trans-staff-two-email-addresses/

"Stonewall is urging employers to let staff have two email addresses to swap gender identities on different days, The Telegraph can reveal.
The contentious LGBT charity has drawn up new guidance for hundreds of organisations vying for spots on its “workplace equality index” (WEI), one of the UK's largest benchmarking schemes.
This newspaper has obtained the form that employers must submit for Stonewall’s 2023 index, with each question marked by the charity in return for a ranking score on its “top 100 employers” league table or a bronze, silver or gold award.
But MPs have branded it “frankly absurd” and “extremely concerning””_, with an ex-minister calling on the Government to ensure taxpayer cash is not wasted."

How could this not be open to misuse and/or abuse?

"In guidance beneath the question, Stonewall says “you will receive more marks if at least one example is specific to gender fluid people, for example the ability to have multiple passcards with different forms of gender expression or linked email accounts/intranet accounts with different names and photos”."

Of course their new set of rules seeks to add to procurement:

"Other questions on the new 40-page form ask employers whether they "do not award the contract" or "require improvements as a condition of contract" to potential suppliers that "do not meet LGBTQ+ inclusion scrutinn_y".
If a contract is awarded to a supplier, Stonewall suggests they could "include a broad diversity and inclusion slot in contract monitoring meetings”."
Not content with procurement rules, there's further requirements for buildings and "allies":
"The document also asks whether bodies have a "formal commitment to introduce gender-neutral facilities in all buildings" and "support all cis employees (including lesbian gay and bi employees) to become trans allies through training, programmes and/or resources"."

How would anybody be considered able to do their job with 2 differently named emails?

What if they received a query on their bloke email but the next day when they should be dealing with it, they feel a bit 'girly' the next day & don't want to invalidate their own selves by opening the blokey email?

If they open the blokey email, will they immediately dissolve in a puddle of cognitive dissonance?

Would this count as being forced by their employer to commit literal violence against themselves?

MumOnAMountain · 13/11/2022 02:53

I think a lot of organisations, and a lot of people, are slow behind current news.

Everyone got told a few years ago, in no uncertain terms ("No Debate"), that they must focus on transgender people, the most oppressed people ever, and got convinced to take part in Stonewall training, Stonewall points, Stonewall ratings for organisations.

They are bumbling behind the curve now. They are the misinformed.

Stonewall have lost all credibility. People (mostly women) started asking questions, and carried on asking questions. For example:

sex-matters.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Sex-Matters-Understanding-Stonewall-Risk-080721-FINAL.pdf

Or if you're into audio podcasts, try:

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/brand/p09yjmph

Or just talk to rational women who know what sex means.

It’s utterly ridiculous because many roles require all sorts of background checks and qualifications. I work in finance. My background checks (including criminal history etc.), my ongoing qualification so I am able to advise clients…. are in my legal name. There is no way my company could implement this. To say nothing of the fact that our identity is linked to IT access management, so our employee number and laptop number are what gets us into certain portals. The fraud risk that goes with multiple ID’s is beyond impossible to manage.

It’s true. If this becomes a thing it will extend to a federal level of unchecked. Everyone will have two (or more of you’re just that trendy) aliases attached to their person legally speaking. It would be the most ridiculous stupid thing ever. An embarrassment to our culture. The eastern continents must be laughing at how ridiculous the west is behaving.

Sorry Clymene, I did see the link and it was quite long so I'd made a note to read this weekend!

In guidance beneath the question, Stonewall says “you will receive more marks if at least one example is specific to gender fluid people, for example the ability to have multiple passcards with different forms of gender expression or linked email accounts/intranet accounts with different names and photos”.

Being given 2 passcards - isn't this a security issue? What is stopping them from giving 1 passcard to someone else, to allow them to access the building and rooms?

So I guess they'd require 2 separate log in accounts for online portals and databases? What a reporting and security nightmare!

Also - at a previous job, one task I had was to issue work identity cards - it was important that we had the person's full legal name on it, which matched their driver's license. This would not be possible for someone that changes identity on a regular basis, with no official documents changing.

If fraud is committed under the identity that is not their legal name - how can their employer then prove it was them? They can't!

Which leads me to my next question - at another previous workplace, we issued training documents and once these were signed off and completed, and the practical hours were met, we issued them formal certificates for their completed qualification.
How will this be handled if you identify as 2 or more people? Would they need to attend 2 of the same classes so the student attendance record showed they were both there? (you had to meet attendance requirements to pass), or if they only attended class as one person - and got the formal qualification - does this mean when they identify as the other person, those days they cannot perform their job because they are not "qualified"?

One former workplace required workers to do a lot of inductions - some were online, some were in person. Will both identities be required to do these inductions? What a logistical nightmare for those who are tasked with rostering workers onto client's worksites - so much extra work involved to ensure they had the proper paperwork, qualifications, and site inductions.

What about needing a medical clearance? Will both identities require separate medicals?

I don't think Stonewall has realised what issues this will cause.

All excellent questions. I got grief for working through similar practical considerations and asking questions about the new trans policy in my last job. They were not trivial issues but they were swept aside and ignored. (Stonewalled employer.) It’s tricky when these policies hit cold, hard reality. God forbid someone has to say “no” and prick the bubble.

Replying to @DysonSpheres

Charley50 · 13/11/2022 07:32

Hope this wakes some more employers up. Can't believe organisations are still signed up to Stonewall.

MoltenLasagne · 13/11/2022 07:41

I know people are focusing on the two email addresses due to the sheer absurdity but I think the procurement rules are more chilling.

"Other questions on the new 40-page form ask employers whether they "do not award the contract" or "require improvements as a condition of contract" to potential suppliers that "do not meet LGBTQ+ inclusion scrutiny".

So SW are not content to merely control those daft enough to sign up to their scheme, they're also signing them up yo control their suppliers as little SW proxies.

Some of the things they want seem to be things that will destroy or damage business. Why on earth would any bank stop collecting "gender data"? (Assume this actually means sex: male/female). It's information about your customers you can use to understand their banking needs.

And who knows what the long term will be of funding employee SRS. With all the detransitioner stories though, you'd assume not a rosy outlook. Don't banks scan for future developments based on current and projected trends? Or are they happy to take risks with their own business?

What utter utter crap from Stonewall.

KittenKong · 13/11/2022 09:27

So potentially a member of staff will have two (why not 3?) email accounts - and we assume they don’t look at the ‘wrong’ one in certain days.

How does that work then? I need to answer certain emails within the working day. Does the person emailing need to remember which email/salutation to use?

is stonewall run by children or something?

TheBiologyStupid · 13/11/2022 09:47

And if all companies did this, there goes the data needed to work out how women are being discriminated against in terms of pay, senior appointments, etc. Although doubtless SW take "gender pay gap" to mean something other than "sex pay gap"...

Theeyeballsinthesky · 13/11/2022 09:53

fucksake! Stonewall may live in a world where there is bottomless time & money for support dogs/cats/wombats but out here in the real world every organisation I know is struggling with money & can’t recruit enough staff so everyone is ludicrously over worked. not to mention there’s also a huge cost of living crisis

amd stonewall think overstretched under resourced organisations should do this? Fuck off

NeverOneBiscuit · 13/11/2022 10:04

Just the two separate emails? How very regressive of Stonewall !

What about an employee’s recorded voice message on their answer phone? Would Sarah get voice training to sound like Ben on Monday to Wednesday? Or does the caller just magically know their gender expression that day?

Utter bollocks (and ovaries just to make it fair on my other email identity!)

Stonewall have completely lost the plot, haven’t they? I wish the press would stop calling it an LGBTQ lobby group, and just call it the TQ group - they don’t give a shit about us LGB folk anymore.

Yes

Every time I think 'This is surely the moment when Stonewall Jumps the Shark' I get proved wrong.

But

Surely

This is the moment when Stonewall Jumps the Shark?

User0610134057 · 13/11/2022 10:15

The organisation I work for is SO woke that they boasted in a recent session on diversity that they have given someone two different security passes because they identify as different genders on different days../
ffs

ResisterRex · 13/11/2022 10:18

It's total nonsense.

  • Do employers offer multiple interviews for one person? Which one do they offer the job to? How many applications do you put in? How do you get called for interview to begin with?
  • Toddlers know they're trans, according to SW. Should nurseries offer multiple places?
  • Does a single human get paid two or more salaries, or is the one salary split two or more ways?
  • How do mortgages work? How many identities are on the deeds to the house?
  • Who do credit card companies chase for overdue payments? What about utility companies?
  • Does the DWP make one payment two or more ways? Or two or more payments to the same single human?
  • Do restaurants take a booking made on a Monday, for a Friday, for your Monday or Friday identity?

But within all this is some serious stuff ie the forced teaming via procurement.

This may explain why my local university, which has recently renewed its Stonewall membership, is busy making its loos mixed sex despite opposition from those with religious and cultural backgrounds that make sharing with men impossible. There's a head of steam building up, largely from female admin and support staff.

Cherryblossoms85 · 13/11/2022 10:31

We got this survey through on our intranet the other day. Fortunately the login link didn't work so I didn't feel obliged to fill it in.

RobinStrike · 13/11/2022 10:32

How on earth would you keep a thread on a conversation? If it isn't all coming from the same email address then the communications wouldn't follow any logical thread. Bad in terms of internal communication but a disaster for external ones.
