To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

Genuine question for anybody who might know- can Eddie actually be listed and elected as a “female” M.P. If elected if Eddie isn’t in possession of a GRC? And if Eddie decided to return or remain to being gender fluid how do we count how many female M.P.s we have representing women in the country? Coz if they can how then do we monitor female representation?

this is one of the issues right now - which of the Labour politicians tweeted earlier about how there aren't any women in the new cabinet? got her arse handed to her because, of course, Labour are having an incredibly hard time actually identifying what a woman is.

Is the sex and/or gender identity of our elected representatives collated in statistics? Should it be? In a perfect world, of course, it wouldn't matter since we would all be striving for equality, in all respects. But it isn't perfect. But now I'm wondering how we know there are female MPs. Maybe they don't feel female but have a female coded name, look like a woman (boobs, maybe long hair and a skirt?) and were AFAB. But maybe they don't identify as a woman but aren't out yet. What does that do to statistics? representation?

Yep. This is the crux of it. If we can’t accurately count biological female M.P’s we can’t tell how many M.P’s have similar lived experiences to us. Women are underrepresented in Parliament now and historically.
If the “women” who are in parliament aren’t all in fact women the our representation diminishes.

Hasn't Eddie said either pronoun is ok though but prefers she? Happy to be corrected if not.

Yes, he did say that.

Fucks sake. Why can't we discuss AIBU posts in AIBU when the OP was asking for a breadth of opinions?? I know they came across as somewhat naive on the issue, but.....why confine all threads like this to feminism where lots of people who haven't properly considered these issues won't be looking.
Keep us in the box eh? Heaven forbid a wider audience gets to consider these issues.
Fucks me right off MN, what are you so scared of?

👏 👏 👏

Can Eddie play the piano?

More importantly can he use his exposed male member to hit against the keys. This is flashing (and possibly a harbinger of more serious future offending), but now men seem to doing their utmost to expose their genitals to women and children and are trying to normalise it. Pretend it is not transgressing any boundary.

Not saying EI has ever done that, as it was that Jordan person who did that on live TV. However, EI has at the very least caused discomfort to women/girls in single sex toilets. And boasted about it as if he was the hero for doing that. Yuck!

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 27/10/2022 21:30

Apparently it's been moved (never noticed what board it was in, it was in active I think when I saw it)
Don't think it's anything to do with a "naughty" corner, just people see the topic and think FFS
Like Brexit and Covid threads, they tend to invade so have their own space.

Cait73 · 27/10/2022 21:32

@ColdstreamAnnie and yet here you are referring to her as "him"

It's all a bit messed up isn't it

Brefugee · 27/10/2022 21:37

one of the problems of the current debates (ha) about Gender Identity are that many many people simply don't have them. One reason is that a bafflingly large number of MNetters don't identify as feminists, and therefore wouldn't touch the FWR board with a bargepole.

So much discussion around this topic, when it isn't zapped, is just a load of "be kind you evil terfy terfs with your literal genocide of misgendering" and a refusal to engage in any meaningful debate at all. So having this relatively harmless and yet still fairly robust discussion on AIBU would be a good step towards getting those conversations.

keepcalm11 · 27/10/2022 21:41

Why would Rosie or anyone else refer to Eddie Izzard as awoman when he is in fact a man ? Why ?

bellinisurge · 27/10/2022 21:41

If Eddie doesn't care what pronouns you use for him, why does he think he's entitled to go into women's toilets

Helleofabore · 27/10/2022 21:42

ColdstreamAnnie · 27/10/2022 20:37

He is gender fluid, I believe.
I suppose I felt sorry for him because I can't imagine how difficult it must be to identify as one gender and have lots of people tell you that you're not.

Aww!

How sad that Eddie gets to declare what ‘mode’ he is in to maximize the benefit of the situation.

’Boy’ mode for movies and high paying roles.

’Girl’ mode for those fun and skirt swirling moments and those that allow Eddie to identify into an oppressed group and take opportunities from women. You know, the cunty types who Eddie believes don’t deserve it as much as Eddie does.

A person who thinks Eddie is in a ‘difficult’ place obviously does not see the reality. Eddie wants the best of both worlds and is being pandered to so that Eddie gets what Eddie wants.

Pure male entitlement and yet there are still people who cannot see it!

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 21:43

Doesn't matter what he's doing with his penis.

Although we would prefer he keeps the piano playing to himself.

And it was removed from active/trending. Why do you think that is?

I don't think it's baffling, as in a lot would say they're pro women's rights as in think a woman should be able to think for herself, and by doing so isn't just a product of being brainwashed by the patriarchy if it isn't a view that aligns with a certain subset of feminism.
Feminism is a broad church for want of a better expression and the extreme not everyone is on board with.
On here over the years I've seen people who are inclusive of all be called young, patronised with no idea how old they are
Intersectional feminism dismissed, as in being black can just take a seat as we have "this" or "that" to deal with as women.

Um....how do you just park being black for "more pressing issues?" if you are both black and a woman? They're BOTH in play just as equally.
I can see why people give it a swerve

I have literally just said why I think so 😕 Did you actually read the post?

You don’t think active threads should be in active then? If people are actually discussing Brexit, Covid or people wanting to stand as members of Parliament expecting others to lie about their sex then this should be hidden?

And yet when some poster’s contribution are clearly racist
and called out, those posters disappear of the thread.

How bizarre to see this post.

borogovia · 27/10/2022 21:56

I feel a bit sorry for him. He talks about boy and girl mode, and not minding pronouns. He could move to a full on GC position and I wish he would. I think he has a cross dressing fetish which he was coping with in the past by making it part of his creativity, and I don't think we - his audience - fully realised that. I think he is now finding it harder to cope with and he is now surrounded by people suggesting he could deal with it by transitioning in some way. He's clearly partly but not fully convinced by this and is trying to find his own position.

tactum · 27/10/2022 21:57

And lo and behold the traffic on the thread has reduced drastically since it was moved.......we are well and truly in our corner.

It pisses me off because I had a real life conversation with a friend this week who was a bit like op, let's just be nice etc. When we talked through the anomalies with that stance and the protection of our rights, and her teenage daughters she changed her stance massively.

TheBiologyStupid · 27/10/2022 22:00

TimeAtTheBar · 27/10/2022 20:32

Eddie Izzard was born a man, is a man and will die a man.

Just like all men, however they may ‘identify’.

Yes, facts can be so inconvenient sometimes.

borogovia · 27/10/2022 22:03

I'd like him to say 'I want to be able to do boy mode or girl mode, and I know it's just clothes and I'm still a man'. I'd like him to recognise that if he had been born a girl, he would be most unlikely to have the career he has had. The man's a comic genius, and it's depressing to see him acting like a dick.

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 22:04

We don't want an echo chamber. We want to go back to AIBU.

tactum · 27/10/2022 22:05

Exactly!!!!

borogovia · 27/10/2022 22:07

Also, yeah, back to AIBU.

Helleofabore · 27/10/2022 22:11

Good luck getting it moved back.

But why the echo chamber comment?

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 27/10/2022 22:11

Yes, but as I said, sometimes they seem to be all the boards are about and not everyone comes here (as in MN) for that.
