To feel incredibly sorry for Eddie Izzard

I don't want to pity Eddie but I felt a wave of sadness after reading that Rosie Duffield (MP) said she would rather be arrested than refer to Eddie as a woman.

OP posts:
Boiledbeetle · 27/10/2022 22:16

You know what Fuck It.

I am so done with this constant bullshitting and gaslighting of women, females, and girls.

I'm done being a woman.

From now on i am identifying as pissed off gender.

My pronouns are off/you/fuck/you/complete/bellends

Good evening.

Pissed off Boiled
off/you/fuck/you/complete/bellends

(Not you lovely lot obviously just the people who are hell bent on turning the world upside down and inside out)

PoseyFlump · 27/10/2022 22:22

Helleofabore · 27/10/2022 22:11

Good luck getting it moved back.

But why the echo chamber comment?

Do you not think it's like an echo chamber when the threads are moved to a specific subsection?

Ndd135632 · 27/10/2022 22:26

Oh he’ll be alright. Focus yourself on women and girls safety and prizes and shortlists.

Oblomov22 · 27/10/2022 22:27

I object to this thread being moved out of AIBU into Feminism.

tactum · 27/10/2022 22:30

Boiledbeetle from now on me and my vagina are identifying with you all the way!

Helleofabore · 27/10/2022 22:30

PoseyFlump

Have you read many threads on this board?

There is quite a diverse range of opinions. And to be fair, most poll results for threads that get moved here from AIBU probably represent the split of posts on this board.

We have many posters come onto this board and tell us we are an ‘echo chamber’ as a way to shame women stating their boundaries and asking that sex is prioritised when sex matters in any discussion of the rights of all females.

Emotionalsupportviper · 27/10/2022 22:30

tactum · 27/10/2022 21:57

And lo and behold the traffic on the thread has reduced drastically since it was moved.......we are well and truly in our corner.

It pisses me off because I had a real life conversation with a friend this week who was a bit like op, let's just be nice etc. When we talked through the anomalies with that stance and the protection of our rights, and her teenage daughters she changed her stance massively.

Exactly!

Even now there are so many people who have no extent of transactivism, what is being demanded, what govts and organisations are supporting (often in defiance of current law), and even more - what the implications are for themselves and their daughters.

They don't know because it is deliberately kept hidden on every medium.

Ndd135632 · 27/10/2022 22:32

Why for living Christ do women feel more sorry for a man in a dress than they do for elite athletes losing their sports places and prizes, women being raped in prison, sexual assault victims wanting women to care for them, young adults regretting being sold a lie and being put on a path of medicalization. Why oh why?

borogovia · 27/10/2022 22:36

I don't feel more sorry for him, by a long long way, but I do feel a litle bit sorry for him.

Exactly. My friends and colleagues were part of the 'be kind' brigade, and weren't even aware of anything that was happening, like self ID legislation (I'm in Scotland) and the safeguarding issues this presents. That people are getting sacked for stating a spade is a spade, that some people - despite what the Scottish Gov tell you - do pretend to be something they're not to access women to hurt them. After proper discussion it's like the lightbulb has finally switched on.

NotTerfNorCis · 27/10/2022 22:37

This thread shouldn't have been moved from AIBU. Feeling sorry for Izzard is not actually a feminist position!

comfyoldcardi · 27/10/2022 22:39

yerdaindicatesonbends · 27/10/2022 20:56

I genuinely just wish it was socially acceptable for men to wear dresses, pretty clothes and make up if they so wished, and then perhaps we wouldn’t be where we are now. Clothes and expression have no gender, bodies do.

I had the TV on in the background this afternoon playing music videos from the 70s and 80s. Lots of young men wearing make up, dresses and all manner of head gear. None of them claimed to be women. Happy days.

NewBootsAndRanty · 27/10/2022 22:39

"From my point of view, I am a transgender woman, I am gender fluid. I have been open and honest about this for 37 years. People seem to be outraged about this."
www.theguardian.com/culture/2022/oct/27/eddie-izzard-rules-out-appearing-on-all-women-labour-mp-shortlist

Open and honest about this for 37 years, my arse.

yerdaindicatesonbends · 27/10/2022 22:39

bellinisurge · 27/10/2022 21:01

@yerdaindicatesonbends absolutely no problem with him wearing dresses, make up etc. He's my age. It was a perfectly unremarkable thing in the 1980s when he and I were in our late teens and 20s.
However, invading women's single sex spaces was not. Which is what he does. And he claims not to care about pronouns but if any of us dares to call him HIM , the TRAs say we are evil bigots.
Autogynophiles like him have no right to feel proud of themselves

That’s the best of it, most people considered ‘bigots’ have no problem with expression generally, and the move away from androgyny, which granted was more about females dressing ‘masculine’ as I remember it growing up in the 90s, is a shame. I believe it to be during the 00’s that hyper focus on girls vs boys clothes really ramped up and may have added to where we are now.

And whilst the people labelled bigots for the most part would be totally ok with anyone wearing whatever they like, would the general population be as accepting? I don’t think so, and so bravery has a new face, which in turn is a denial of what actually is.

I don’t disagree with you, and biological males have no place in certain spaces for women. I do like to look at the bigger picture of how things end up the way that they do though, and think we definitely took a wrong turn somewhere in terms of people being able to express themselves in what they wear.

Not read the whole thread. Yes I feel sadness too that women like Rosie feel like this. It is sad that we are threatened with police and prison for stating that men are men and cannot be women.

This. A million times this. Fuck me.

FaceLikeASmackedArse · 27/10/2022 22:44

tactum · 27/10/2022 21:23

Fucks sake. Why can't we discuss AIBU posts in AIBU when the OP was asking for a breadth of opinions?? I know they came across as somewhat naive on the issue, but.....why confine all threads like this to feminism where lots of people who haven't properly considered these issues won't be looking.
Keep us in the box eh? Heaven forbid a wider audience gets to consider these issues.
Fucks me right off MN, what are you so scared of?

Yes!!! Right there with you on this one
This should remain in AIBU.

Getting it transferred to Feminism away from the high traffic of AIBU. Disappointed MNHQ are pandering to this bs

Exactly! I just typed up in another post we appear to have taken a wrong turn somewhere!

mrshoho · 27/10/2022 22:47

Right behind you Rosie!

Ndd135632 · 27/10/2022 22:53

He looks like a man. He talks like a man. He acts like a man. Omg. He IS A MAN. Ban me now MN for speaking truth. We aren’t in 1984 anymore. Those days are over.

This post contains troll-hunting which we don't allow.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 27/10/2022 23:02

I'm disappointed in Eddie tbh. I loved who he was before. Just a man who loved to dress however he pleased with nothing else behind it. Now he's gone down this route. It's so tedious.

You are being very naive if you think theres never been a sexual element to the way eddie had always dressed in public.

Gymrabbit · 27/10/2022 23:06

MN move this back to AIBU - stop trying to hide these important issues.

Whatthefunkingfunk

A few years ago I repeatedly tweeted 50/50 parliament (the campaign to have equal men and women in the H of C) on this issue asking if they would consider it 50/50 if some of the women were transwomen. They declined to answer every time.

JanieAllen · 27/10/2022 23:12

so we aren't even ALLOWED to mention troll like behaviour on MN?

ErrolTheDragon · 27/10/2022 23:16

Yes I feel sadness too that women like Rosie feel like this. It is sad that we are threatened with police and prison for stating that men are men and cannot be women.

Quite.
