And International Trade Secretary. I'd have preferred to see her as Secretary of State for Education in addition to Minister for Women and Equalities, but this is good news.

What do you mean? Anti racism in the crt sense is wokism (and is racist). And she supports women agains gender ideology, which is also woke.

Which rights for women is she opposed to?

The right for women in NI to marry other women? The right for women to have an abortion without harassment?

@Apollo442 I understand perfectly well. You people are unhinged.

I haven't even said anything yet.

Justjoinedforthis · 25/10/2022 19:38

Also doesn’t think misogyny should be classesd as a hate crime.
Honestly I am GC but celebrating these far right wing nutters is what puts me off these boards completely.

Yep.

Pixiedust1234 · 25/10/2022 21:24

Didn't take long for the howlers to come and try to shut down discussion , did it? Right wing nutters, unhinged, monstrous.

Oh hush you silly women, you know nothing 🙄

hatsofftoyouall · 25/10/2022 21:24

Justjoinedforthis · 25/10/2022 19:26

But she wanted to rid of all the teaching assistants in schools..?

She's not education so won't be doing that

AutumnCrow · 25/10/2022 21:24

Well she's been appointed appointed and there's fuck all I can do about it.

I hope to god she can get those men out of women's prisons by next week, frankly. To tell Raab - instant transfers, mate. Do it. That's what I care about right now.

You understand that she considers anti racism and support for womens rights to be 'wokeism'?

"Anti-racism" doesn't mean being against racism, oddly. It means accepting an ideology of race essentialism that believes racial hierarchies are inevitable.

It is very much a part of what people mean when they talk about things being "woke" and I would consider her rejection of it to be a good thing.

I think you will find she believes in women's rights, for example the right to work, to vote, and stand for Parliament.

hatsofftoyouall · 25/10/2022 21:26

There was a good discussion within the last year on womens hour about why it wouldn't be useful to make misogyny a hate crime. Unfortunately I've forgotten the main gist but it was a reasoned argument

I wouldn’t say it’s shutting down discussion - if anything it’s encouraging it. Rather than pages of praise on why this is a great appointment, surely it’s better for some posters to come in and say “hang on, Kemi might be great for reason X, but what about things Y and Z?” There’s no need for name calling though, and I don’t think calling someone a nutter really encourages them to see things from your perspective.

I think the far right of the Tory party is monstrous. They are happy to destroy the things that make Britain great - our culture, our heritage, our environment and our communities. That is monstrous to me.

Well you could say the same for the Corbyn wing of the Labour party.
But just because Badenoch and Corbyn have different perspectives doesn't make them demons. I actually understand where both are coming from and agree and disagree with them on different issues. It doesn't make me a right wing nut job or a left wing nut job but I think it makes me an adult....

How is voting against home abortion provisions anti trans? A lot of women are against extending abortion rights. What's it got to do with trans issues?

Have you never heard of people having different points of view?

Fucking hell your bar for what’s sufficient belief to qualify someone as pro-women’s rights is so low it’s buried underground.

woohoowoohoo · 25/10/2022 21:30

I hope she legislates that all companies have proper single sex toilets . Then my bloody workplace can change them back.

electricdreaming · 25/10/2022 21:30

I do understand why those who are GC would see this as a great thing for women because Kemi “knows what a woman is” but if she doesn’t think women have the right to a safe, legal abortion, what is the point in knowing the definition of a woman? Surely the whole point of being GC is to definite women as female, and therefore protect their sex based rights and ensure they have sufficient recognition and protection for things that only occur to women, i.e abortion? I genuinely don’t understand the viewpoint.

PronounssheRa · 25/10/2022 21:32

That legislation exists.

I hope she enforces and insists on that legislation being used - in workplaces, prisons, schools, hospitals, refuges, therapy groups, sports, care homes and more.

How quickly she does that will be interesting. Because I'm really fucking angry with the Tories now. I'll never vote them anyway; but bloody hell this is poor.

Cuck00soup · 25/10/2022 21:35

David T C Davis has been given Welsh Secretary and is gender critical. Though I have no knowledge of his other policy views.

hatsofftoyouall · 25/10/2022 21:35

She's against critical race theory, which is bonkers racist ideology.

If you let CRT, an import from America where racism has a different history and different triggers, loose in the U.K., we would get a lot more racist extremism.

Some areas of the U.K. of low socioeconomic status, mostly white, are extremely disenfranchised. It's can be incredibly hard for young men to get jobs. You've generations of unemployment. They do see immigrants as taking their jobs. Pour crt in and you have a flame to the oil.

Racism exists but crt is not the way to handle it.

hatsofftoyouall · 25/10/2022 21:38

I asked around last time, apart from wanting to get rid of tas, in what way she was right wing?

Dh couldn't tell me exactly. And I couldn't work out what she stands for that's right wing?

Fucking hell your bar for what’s sufficient belief to qualify someone as pro-women’s rights is so low it’s buried underground.

Those are actually important, and foundational, women's rights. To say she doesn't support women's rights is simply not true.

There are many areas where the application and nature of certain rights are more complex, where reasonable and good people may have different viewpoints.

You know who else thinks there is only one way to think about rights? TRAs. If you have any difference of viewpoint about what is in fact a right, or which rights need to be balanced against other rights, well, you are just a monster.

People here say all the time, they are not against trans-rights. They just don't think they include things like access to single-sex spaces. Or the effects of certain policies need to also consider the effects on other issues and people.

This checklist approach - a person has to support this exact set of policies or they must be anti-woman is just not how a mature political discussion happens.

beastlyslumber · 25/10/2022 21:42

Just looked up Kemi's votes on abortion issues and I think her anti-abortion stance is being hugely exaggerated on here.

She voted in favour of NI having powers to commission abortion laws. She voted against the removal of current restrictions on abortion in the UK and against the introduction of abortions without restrictions in NI. She voted against the so-called buffer zones, but I think this was a good call since that was really a proposal for censorship.

Hardly "monstrous".

I think left/right wing is subjective, but generally GC views are seen as right wing, her views on abortion are seen as right wing, from her voting record she seems to be quite anti-immigration or at least lowering it, her views on refugees aren’t exactly the most progressive, all of which are seen as generally socially to the right.

She has a pretty hands off view on the economy.
