And International Trade Secretary. I'd have preferred to see her as Secretary of State for Education in addition to Minister for Women and Equalities, but this is good news.

I believe in basic facts / reality. People have an unchanging and unchangeable sex which is determined soon after conception and often observed a very long time before birth.

I believe woman is a sex class (see any competent dictionary) and women's toilets are for women.

I do not believe that a man's claim to identify as a woman is in any way meaningful other than as an indication that he might have poor mental health or might be a predator seeking to gain access to vulnerable women.

I think that it is ludicrous to claim that a person with a penis is a woman, and I think it is equally ludicrous to suggest that a man becomes less of a man simply because he has lost his penis (surgically or in an accident, it makes no difference).

She is in favour of getting rid of the equal pay act etc etc.

She is a terrible appointment

WahineToa · 27/10/2022 12:07

This exchange was when I noticed her, she was right to ask Noakes to define terms since we all seem to have different meanings to well used words!

WahineToa · 27/10/2022 12:09

She is in favour of getting rid of the equal pay act etc etc.

Is she? Don’t think so. What is etc? Etc?

She answered a question about equal pay here recently:

That's not true. What do you mean by "etc etc."?

Is she? That would be concerning.

I had a quick Google of ‘Badenoch equal pay act’ and these were the results:

questions-statements.parliament.uk/written-questions/detail/2022-04-14/154109/

policymogul.com/parliamentary-record/written-q-and-a/30103/question-for-women-and-equalities

Can you point me in the right direction as I can’t immediately find any reference as to being against the Equal Pay Act (although Google is probably not my friend on this, I accept!)

Not if they were initially erroneously observed male at birth due to a DSD and further tests proved they are in fact, genetically female.

No males in female spaces. None.
It’s very simple, and it includes spaces for girls, aka minor human females and not just spaces for adult human females.

Exactly. And if they do enter, women should feel entirely comfortable, as they have been for decades, to tell them to get out.

I can't see anyone making it illegal. Entirely unacceptable, and the person viewed with deep suspicion as dodgy, and challenged, yes. Of course.

That's exactly how it's always been.

Datun · 27/10/2022 12:30

Oh dear, was dad joke struggling to remain within guidelines?

Shocked.

FernlovingNodosaur · 27/10/2022 12:51

maddy68 Can you expand on the Kemi abolishing the equal pay law statement you have just made. Are we talking about removing the minimum wage here or women being paid less than men for doing the same job? Because sorry to break it too you, the latter already happens just covertly I'm afraid.

ArabellaScott · 27/10/2022 13:25

I await maddy's answer with interest.

I don’t think you should come on to this board and lie. We will always check out lies about women.

I have no idea. If I were to guess I would suspect that having white privilege makes white people more likely to do stupid shit like reach for their glove box when stopped, whereas black people, fearing a trigger happy racist police (because their parents taught them to), take much more care. White privilege leads some white people into a false sense of security. Just a guess.
Show quote history^

Okay wow. Maybe don't make guesses, because that's fucked up.

Here's a news article about Tony Timpa. He's a white man who died after police pinned him down for 14 minutes, while they laughed and joked. Sounds familiar, I know. But apparently we don't care about what happened to him, for some reason. www.cbsnews.com/news/tony-timpa-disturbing-video-shows-dallas-officers-joking-as-they-restrain-man-who-died/

That is horrific, BeastlySlumber. They actually laugh after someone says “Is he dead?” ( which was clearly showing signs of being).

There has been no news of this here. Probably if there had been it would have been seen as a cynical attempt at ‘what aboutery’ to derail concern for BLM. It shows how complex everything is.

DdraigGoch · 27/10/2022 14:27

I also think it’s of limited use. Being male or white doesn’t make you a bad person, and trying to imply that it does just sows division

This. I can see the logic of privilege theory. However talking about it just seems to entrench divisions and set people against each other. That's not helpful.

It also insults many people who do not want to be viewed as victims - in fact viewing them through a lense of victimhood could well be a glass ceiling in its own right.

ScrollingLeaves · 27/10/2022 14:29

beastlyslumber · Today 10:20
I had no idea if that, Beastly. If possible please do you have a link based on the proportion of the population? (Not questioning you, just interested.)

Cloglady above has some good links. I got this information from Glen Loury and John McWhorter's podcast. Also Coleman Hughes is another good source of information.

Is that not just because there are more white people in America though? What are the statistics on a population percentage level? (Genuine question)

There are more white people, indeed. However, black people are way more likely to have an interaction with the police than white people are, so you need that number too

Thank you for answering, I’ll look them up/listen.

DdraigGoch · 27/10/2022 14:32

DadJoke · 27/10/2022 11:08

You have literally just agreed that it's not illegal. Now do you agree you want to stop trans women entering women's loos?

Lots of things aren't illegal. Sitting in the priority seat on public transport when someone else needs it for example. I still don't do it, because I'm not an arsehole.

Yes this.

And why does DadJoke keep asking this question as if it's a gotcha?

The women here are quite open about wanting to keep males out of their spaces. It's not something that anyone here is ashamed of.

Copied over from the Sheffield seat selections thread, posted by @Iliveonahill

A conservative MP Lee Anderson has been reported to the police for hate crime. He commented on Eddie and toilets. Will be interesting to see if the police have the time to investigate this.

It’s on Facebook on the MPs page. I don’t agree with most of what he says but in terms of sex and gender he says what a lot of people think.

Screenshots of the MPs Facebook post, ‘reactions’ to the post, story of the police report, plus Guardian story of the ‘hatecrime’ from yesterday…

Will be interesting to see how this plays out with the new PM/Home Sec/Equalities Sec/Justice Sec etc.

Why do we have a male poster so determined to have females accept males in female single sex spaces?

Tillsforthrills · 27/10/2022 14:52

Pieceofpurplesky · 25/10/2022 20:07

Yeah great on one issue. As for the rest - voted against bringing government policy in line with human rights, she's voted against issues to prevent climate change, she has voted against lying higher benefits for those sick or unable to work, she voted for rising prices and lower benefits, she voted against free school meals for children.
I can't be a one issue voter as her voting history indicates she will make my life (and many others) worse.

This is an eye opener.

If only Labour could just get the one single issue she has got right.

Oh ffs do keep up. I confirmed pages and pages back that use of single-sex toilets is largely social convention but that it was open to organisations to make use of the single-sex exceptions to lawfully discriminate against TW and provide a single-sex space where there is a proportionate means to achieve a legitimate aim.

All males (including TW) can lawfully enter female toilets. IT IS SOCIAL CONVENTION that prevents most males from doing so. Most males are decent enough not to want to demolish women's boundaries. For those males that do not care about women's boundaries there is probably not a lot, in reality, that can be done. This doesn't mean that women are happy with this. Many women are not happy sharing intimate spaces with male people.
