Well that's one less beardy man on there defending rape and death threats.

But would you question a GC person who publishes the threat that they've received from a TRA, or do you immediately take it at face value? Do you (and this is a general you, I'm not singling you out) sit there and think "huh, I wonder if this is genuine or not? I'm a bit sceptical"? Because in my experience and what I've seen online, this isn't the case.

ReneBumsWombats But the same is being said about GN. "Why didn't he go on Twitter and clarify exactly who he meant?" so the same can be said about JKR as the tweet BB posted was a video of GN, it's easy to misunderstand and assume. If she had no intention of bringing GN into this, didn't take issue with what he said, then why not clarify when she sees that he's trending on twitter or whatever?

Feyrethefae · 17/10/2022 19:44

Sorry, the first part of my last post was to EndlessTea, the quote didn't work.

Anydaynowonewouldhope · 17/10/2022 19:50

@Feyrethefae have you watched the behavior of tras and go women at protests? Have you noticed a difference of approach?

nilsmousehammer · 17/10/2022 19:52

Feyrethefae · 17/10/2022 19:24

So a TRA threatens a GC woman on Twitter and it's all guns blazing, added to the list of (inexcusable and awful) threats and highly condemned, but when there's a threat against a trans person, coming from a JKR follower/fan/ally, it's bound to be fake, not as important because GC women have had worse, can't possibly have come from a woman, doesn't count etc. Seriously?

But it isn't guns blazing when said to a female not complying is it? It's normal. No one cares. No one condemns it, it's just a world of excuses. And since we're absolutely knee deep in them, some coming from well known speakers who then confirmed it - Veronica Ivy for example, die in a grease fire - yeah, I'm not going with the squirrel of is it real.

The hypocrisy being pointed out here is that: the mildest thing said to someone in the name of women's rights causes horror, meltdowns, oh the drama.

Threaten to rape and kill women all over the place on a daily basis for saying no to TQ+ male people? Yeah whatever, that's just bantz and hyperbole innit?

This is a women's rights board. We notice misogyny and sexism around here, and the double standards are writ large enough to see from bloody space at this point. Double standards incidentally being the hall mark of male abusers towards their female victims if you know your lundy bancroft.

This is a very weird round-the-houses line of...talk.

JKR responded directly to a tweet by Bragg. It's there, embedded. She saw it and retweeted with a response.

It was a direct response to Bragg. Why all the need to problematise and confuse it? Are you saying it isn't a response to Bragg?

Feyrethefae · 17/10/2022 19:54

Anydaynowonewouldhope · 17/10/2022 19:50

Of course I have, but I can also recognise that there are extremists on either side, people who have the loudest voice and who twist what the majority are actually standing for, what they're saying. The people who are threatening JKR are the same types of people who threaten transpeople and TRA, they're the loudest and the most disgusting. If threats towards TRAs coming from "JKR allies" are questioned, then the same should go for the opposite. The people doing this are allies of no one, they are hate and violence-filled and shouldn't be represented as speaking for the majority.

Tbh, I am sceptical about quite a lot of these accounts. It wouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility that many of these accounts are paid bots with a political agenda to destabilise the west. Stirring derision.

I agree. There's an agenda here and whilst there are some awful people out there who think it's fine to threaten others, I think all of the threats should be questioned, regardless of who they are sent to. If they're from real people and not just bots, then those people should be prosecuted.

nilsmousehammer · 17/10/2022 20:00

Can we evidence these 'GC extremists' and their behaviour please?

Where's the balaclavas? The smoke bombs? The death and rape threats? Blood stained t shirts and barbed wire wrapped baseball bats? The pictures with weapons such as machetes posed as if standing over a victim? The rats nailed to doors? The illegal kettling of people? The arrests in front of their kids? The threats to their kids? The obscene messages scrawled on pavements near to peaceful rallies? The screaming and shouting to drown out someone for example sharing their experience of Autism or rape?

All of which can very easily be evidenced in seconds as to behaviour from activists claiming TQ+ political affiliation.

EndlessTea · 17/10/2022 20:00

Also @Feyrethefae there have been a few people who are a bit bonkers on the GC, so I will suspend judgement a little. But the TRA side are bonkers by definition- they don’t believe in reality - so rather than a pinch of salt I need a JBC.

EndlessTea · 17/10/2022 20:00

JCB

Smilelesstalkmore · 17/10/2022 20:02

It's hilarious that the same people who are oh so disgusted that Graham Norton has been 'hounded off Twitter' are the same people who watched in silence as JKR was subjected to piles and piles of abuse, of which there are hundreds of receipts.

In fact, not only did they not say anything, OJ accused her of 'being a martyr' when she talked about the abuse she had suffered at the hands of her partner.

They also didn't say anything a few days ago when Robbie Coltranes death was being celebrated because he was friends with JKR.

But GN gets a couple of days of heat and people reminding everyone about his Jade Goody and Barry Gibb jokes, and he leaves Twitter (presumably because he can't be arsed with it rather than anything else) and it's, like, the worst thing evaaaaaah!

It's all such a load of crap anyway. Yes, let's talk to experts. I want transwomen going on telly and arguing their case for why males should be to use female spaces, or why kids should be given powerful drugs willy nilly. Abd be able to back up their argument if challenged. Bring it on, let's hear it!

Of course- people making those sorts of threats are dodgy af. And it is against the law.

Who are these experts and trans people?

Experts like Mermaids? Who said in court that they are not experts in anything. GenderGP? One doctor struck off, the other suspended. WPATH? Susie Green is a prominent member (not an expert in anything according to Mermaids' testimony in court). GIDS? Being closed down for serious failings.

Which trans people? Dylan Mulvaney? Lily Madigan? Jane Fae? Karen White? Katie Dolatowski? Barbie Kardashian?

Give me one reason why anyone should be listening to anything any of these 'experts' and trans people have to say.

Or are there other experts and trans people we should be listening to? How do we know which of these are credible and worth listening to?

This!

Datun · 17/10/2022 20:20

Oh good lord. So she wasn't even talking to Graham Norton. It was billy Bragg.

The loudest ones of the TRA are bonkers indeed, but they don't represent what the majority of trans people are saying. There are plenty of transpeople and trans allies who continuously condemn the absolute batshittery that makes headlines in their names. Extremists are everywhere and they're best ignored.

I think JKs tweet allowed room for confusion, evidenced by the need to justify and explain it here.
So maybe a slight misstep tactically?

Or maybe the tactic is fuck this shit I'm going to bloody blow it wide open.
In which case, great tactics.

Either way JK is the one woman who cannot be cancelled, she's knows this and she's using herself as a lightening rod for all the women who can't speak up.

She's tolerating utter reputational damage, she's giving up her national treasure status, she's allowing herself to be accused of hateful views and acts, she's ignoring the vile abuse and threats.

She is embodying: And Yet She Persisted.

She will not be taken down despite them throwing everything they've got at her.

She is fucking incredible.
When this feels 'over' I want women everywhere to think about how we can honour her.

Graham Norton on the other hand has bailed at the first experience of people thinking he's Not Nice.

EndlessTea · 17/10/2022 20:40

The loudest ones of the TRA are bonkers indeed, but they don't represent what the majority of trans people are saying.

The basic premise of what they are all saying, whether they are bonkers or not, is that reality is less important than their fantasies.

Its antisocial.

EndlessTea · 17/10/2022 20:40

And bonkers

Lots on Tiktok, depends on your algorithm as to which ones you see - the extremists or the others. With a bit of scrolling and weeding you can find them.

The timeline goes:
Graham has JK on his show
Graham gets a load of stick for it from TRAs
Graham writes a piece in The Times defending his decision and calling JK's views "problematic" and saying that she enjoys the "pub brawl" nature of getting abuse (i.e. rape and death threats) on twitter.
In the meantime shit is going down with Mermaids and people start getting jumpy.
Graham then gets asked about cancel culture and now tries to distance himself "ask the experts, I'm just a celebrity" without reversing on his previous claims that JK is problematic and enjoys the twitter abuse. He also fans the flames by saying cancel culture is just accountability because people who get fired can always go to the newspapers.
People point out he can't pretend he's neutral all of a sudden after being a bit of a twat and then dig into further lack of neutrality.
Graham decides that accountability is a bit much after all and deletes his twitter.

This - thanks MoltenLasagne.
