Did he? When he equated cancellation with accountability was that reasonable?

Then why has the conversation been about GN? Why hasn't JKR tweeted to say that it was about BB and not GN if she wasn't speaking about him at all?

If you trivialise the abuse that Norton received because he's rich and has people to advise him, surely the same is true of JKR?

Because we've all seen the death and rape threats. A three second google can find tons. What abuse has Norton received?

Forgive me being a bit cautious, but I've just read an article where there was much tearing of shirts and beating of breasts over horrible abuse which has turned out in fact to be misgendering and females pointing out reality.

You know, in comparison to rape threats, smoke bombs, dead rats nailed to doors, swatting, arresting in front of children, that kind of thing.

He raises some valid points about "cancel culture", this is hardly an "attack" on JK Rowling.

This is also something I've noticed but been hesitant to speak out about- what "cancelled" actually means and how it is used. I've seen a few public figures with very large platforms to express their views to (millions of followers on Social Media, articles in tabloids relaying their views, radio appearances, talk show appearances etc) claim they are "cancelled".

Hopefully GN is just deactivating until the witch-hunt-mob calm down.

GN has received a fraction of the abuse heaped on JKR on a daily basis & none of it accompanied with threats of sex based violence

Well off the top of my head, this sort of thing goes both ways:

3 people committed suicide after doxxing and organised harassment from anti-trans forum kiwifarms. A transwoman was swatted by users on kiwifarms.

A Boston children's hospital received a hoax bomb threat after misinformation was spread on Twitter re what services they provide.

Recently a Twitter user received a DM containing their home address and a violent bomb threat from a user claiming to be a JK Rowling supporter.

Violence and hate crimes against transpeople are increasing at a very alarming rate.

Violence and hate crimes against females in the name of TQ+ politics however has been at horrific levels for years and no one, Norton included, has given a crap.

Just because Keffals writes something on the internet doesn't make it true.

This has brought back a memory from about 2002 of being at a party in Brighton with a woman who worked with Graham Norton and said he was a complete woman-hater. I (inexplicably) liked GN at the time and remember being disappointed.

there are bucketloads of genuinely transphobic violent people (read men) who are genuine threats to trans people.

it has always perplexed me why on earth tras don’t focus on the violent men who pose a genuine threat.

I am sure we both can agree that any violence against trans people and against women is utterly unacceptable.

Just for clarification- hate crime means commission of a recognised criminal offence where the commission of that offence demonstrates or is motivated by hostility to one of the specified groups. Being unpleasant or even rude or offensive to someone is unlikely to be a criminal offence and so will not be a hate crime.

its one of the biggest on goals of the movement that it’s deliberately pitted itself against a group of people who are more likely than many other in society to support anti violence

I’ve never come across this Bookstart alien account before, maybe that’s why people are less likely to jump in. That is a horrendous threat for sure.

Having said that, I’ve got to admit though, that I am so worn down by all the lies, fakery, bad faith, etc, from TRA’s that I feel a little sceptical as to how genuine that is. The way all this usually plays out, I think it’s more likely to be one of the alien’s own socks. It wouldn’t be the first time such a thing was done. Perhaps that scepticism is why people don’t jump in. I’m jaded myself.

So a TRA threatens a GC woman on Twitter and it's all guns blazing, added to the list of (inexcusable and awful) threats and highly condemned, but when there's a threat against a trans person, coming from a JKR follower/fan/ally, it's bound to be fake, not as important because GC women have had worse, can't possibly have come from a woman, doesn't count etc. Seriously?

I don't know if you've noticed, but she comes up in a lot of conversations these days. It's probably hard to police what every single Twit is accusing her of doing (and nobody has yet come up with an actual transphobic quote. It's been 2.5 years and I'm starting to lose hope.).

The tweet in question was explicitly in response to Bragg. It's embedded. How many times does she have to state the obvious over and over?

I’m not saying it is bound to be fake. I am just saying that there is a strong possibility.

Maybe times have changed now and TRAs have become trustworthy, and also the very type of people JK Rowling would completely oppose, now consider her one of their own.

I didn’t get the memo and still operate on what I’ve seen and heard so far.
