“hoisted by their own petard” never seemed more apt, if true

Has RMW been back on here since the bundle fiasco?

I suppose I'm thinking about busy professionals - teachers, doctors or whatever - who were continually reassured that this was the right thing to do, and heard all that "its just like racism" or "it's section 28 again" and just went along with it.

Who are now realising that through their inaction, or lack of curiosity, or respect for whoever was spouting the garbage, they have ended up in an utterly awful position, and that very real harm has been done, and they could have stopped it.

Did you hear that bloke Barry talking to Graham - his view as an older gay man is that Section 28 has been completely misrepresented and was actually good Tory policy. He said, I think, that the likes of PIE etc were doing such a good job of getting queer theory in schools that the Tories were right to push Section 28... had they not done that the backlash may well have been massive and homosexuality outlawed again.

FFWD 35 years or so and LGB people are back in a position of fearing a backlash due to queer rights activists pushing paedophile-adjacent agendas.

I have no idea of the truth of all this... it has taken me until 2022 to hear someone praise section 28 from a gay or a left wing perspective. I have no idea whether his point has 0% merit or much more. But I do know that he seems to have a very good knowledge of the last 60 year history of gay rights and queer theory.

And India Willoughby

Please India, please take legal action against JKR. Honestly, I think it would be truly incredible to have all your accusations against her tested in a court of law.

Birdsweepsin · 05/10/2022 15:00

People like doctors and teachers should have known better. They knew it was a lie. Why would they take someone else's word that it was the 'right thing to do' to encourage children to believe a lie?

I take your point, I really do. But if you risk being branded a troublemaker, or worse, losing your job... I'm just saying - not everyone who supported Mermaids was necessarily evil or malicious.

ImherewithBoudica · 05/10/2022 15:05

To be honest, I'm done referring to myself as LGB and even 'lesbian', I want nothing to do with this horrible mess. They're nowt to do with me. I'll be a homosexual female thanks, and they can tut all they like.

And at this point, if it's a choice between as a gay person not having rainbows everywhere and celebration and random people saying they 'love me' or are 'bringing me into their circle of care' <runs> and seeing this all hit its inevitable conclusion? Which is going to take down everyone that's been used in the process?

I'll do without the rainbows and the patronising head pats thanks. All we ever wanted was equal legal civil rights. The whole point was not wanting to stand out and be treated as something different.

The tweet IW quotes and finds so objectionable is JKR just plainly stating some of what's happened. The fact that, if made up, it should warrant legal action is pretty damning for Mermaids.

Good afternoon.

Which bundle in which case do you allege I was responsible for producing, and what is your evidence for that statement?

nauticant · 05/10/2022 15:11

You've become a meme. I have to confess, I do find it funny.

That really does nail it.

Helleofabore · 05/10/2022 15:20

oh dear.... is this a case of 'you rang?'

BitossiBlues · 05/10/2022 15:23

If you type "RobinMoiraWhite" 5 times in a row whilst staring at a FWR thread, they appear! It is nearly Halloween after all!

Grievedbutrelieved · 05/10/2022 15:25

I have name changed to comment but can't handle a load of bashing. If my story helps just one person I will be relieved. My DD was sexually assaulted in school aged 12. She skipped school and was forced out for poor behaviour. She was also not believed. She didn't tell us. At her next all girls school she made friends with two lesbian girls, still no story until her head expressed concern over her Internet friends and her declining mental health. Again she was forced out, this time for wearing trousers. Later we learned it was her opinions on LGBTQ rights nowt to do with uniform. She had joined a group of glitter friends. During her next school placement she asked for councilling which seemed to work. She was happy, did well in school and was pronounced no longer in need of Camhs. In covid she had a relapse partly caused by a stalker who was harassing me. It brought it all back. We went straight to support services who horrified me by offering a referral to the Tavistock and Mermaids. This took 15 minutes to be recommended by a new clinician. He knew nothing about the attack, her previous joy in feminity or the fact she had a boyfriend. Short haircut, docs, bang, trans. No interest in why she felt like this, what it would mean, just I will do the referral.
I point blank refused to travel to the clinics. I posted on here and got some good advice but lots of abuse. She was still a child suffering from low self esteem and poor mental health.
We finally got a new young GP who offered her support for her depression and self harm. A year later she is well. Learning to drive, off to work and university in January. She has slowly started to change her image. She has long nails and more fitting clothes. But the thing that has gladdened my heart is that she wants children. Her own. Previously she wanted a hysterectomy and a double mastectomy. I had refused the binder as we have breast cancer in our family.
I am not transphobic but she could never be a man. She has tiny hands and features. She didn't understand that if she used male loos or went into hospital as a man she ran the risk of being raped. Why are the people that are pushing these children not aware of the risks? Do they see these poor souls as fodder for their warped mines. I have employed two mtf people in my time. Both unhappy, both abused.
We are at the point she doesn't mind her birth name from family or the she pronoun. Her future is brighter.
I truly thank you wonderful people who have banged the drum for inquiries and safeguarding. Thank you so much. X

FlibbertyGiblets · 05/10/2022 15:32

Grievedbutrelieved a gentle arm squeeze for you. That sounds a really tough couple of years for your family.

RobinMoiraWhite · 05/10/2022 15:34

Possibly.

Let me be quite clear. I, and the team I worked with, we’re not responsible in any way for the bundles in the Bailey matter. We WERE, however, responsible for the ‘translation’ document used to make the document navigation in the hearing manageable, and for the extensive chronology referred to in paragraph 20 of the Bailey judgment.

For my part, I think the ‘bundle’ nonsense endlessly repeated here is just silly. But it is hurtful for those who worked so hard to put it right.

FernPotts · 05/10/2022 15:39

God, Robin, do shut up about the damn bundles. You're miffed at being misrepresented. Got it. But it isn't very interesting or useful.

If you have no interest in the problems faced by teenage girls caught up in gender ideology, like Grieved's poor old DD, just don't comment on the thread.

What kind of legal ground is India on in referring to JKR’s plainly factual Tweet as “innuendo and lies?” Is it actionable to say someone else is lying when they’re provably not?

I have no idea, I just want to see India Willoughby try to take an incredibly rich woman (who is in the right, which also helps!) to court!!!

Come on ladies, stop with the bundle jokes. Some feelings are being hurt and that's just not on!

As John Cleese says in that famous episode of FT, ‘you started it’.

I agree that it would be far better to have a mature discussion of issues but if contributors want to raise such matters then expect me to point out where they are wrong.

Helleofabore · 05/10/2022 15:49

Grievedbutrelieved

what a wild ride for your family. I am glad to hear she is doing better.

BitossiBlues · 05/10/2022 15:50

In one case DH worked on, the other side's barrister threw the (shit) bundle at the solicitor's head when the judge left chambers. I learned as a trainee solicitor that cases can be made or broken by not pissing off a judge with a bad bundle. At no point in my training was I told that my hurty feelings had any relevance to my professional obligation to logically order documents and paginate them correctly. Dear lord, has the profession become that lily-livered?

If they WERE jokes, I would be laughing with the rest of you.

But, in the absence of even the slightest modicum of wit, they are just jibes and I will always defend the work of those I worked closely with.
