Libs Of Tik Tok are being unfairly blamed for this after they exposed that the hospital offered 'gender affirming” hysterectomies on minors including 16-year-olds and “younger kids”'

Do you think that it's right to call in bomb threats to a children's hospital?

it's not an either or position though, is it. If bomb threats were made, that's illegal behaviour and needs to be investigated.

At the same time, we can start asking questions as to why we are allowing underage children to go through life changing surgeries

Most women on here are lefties. Disillusioned but still well on the left.

Anyone who doubts this just has to read the many, many threads about no longer knowing who to vote for. If we were "alt right", none of us would have the slightest qualm about voting Tory.

I’m at the point where I’ll take ‘right wing’

I’m a member of the Labour Party, but what the fuck? I know plenty of Tory voters and guess what? They’re all human. Actually most of them are nice people

Same, they're the only side that seems to care about the protection of women and girls.

Just to recap:

We are apparently all horrible people because we are concerned about hospitals’ own words indicating they do irreversible no-evidence surgeries on children and are grateful to be made aware of it, and even though we have condemned bomb threats, you can’t do both apparently, it’s only satisfactory if we condemn the possible bomb threat and also don’t show any concern for children 🙄.

But @PeopleRock and @Boxowine are the good guys because they have linked the bomb threat to the woman who revealed such information weeks ago despite no evidence or information about the threat linking the two it is in fact all her fault, and it would be best if no one talked about such surgeries taking place, either publicly in the media or on this forum because American politics is so volatile it’s best we stay silent about harm to children lest some lunatic takes a disproportionate response, and talking about harm to children is something only right wing people do anyway 🤨.

Yeah, ok, again I know which side of history I’d rather be on.

Can anyone explain why that’s suggested as a reason for the GRA?

The UK government was legally obliged to take action after its position was ruled against in 2002 by the European Court of Human Rights in Christine Goodwin v. United Kingdom. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goodwin_v_United_Kingdom

Introducing same-sex marriage would have been one possible solution, but the (second) Blair government didn't think it would have sufficient parliamentary or public support and so introduced what became the GRA instead, selling it as a minor administrative change affecting a very small number of people that was necessary to bring the UK into line with the ECHR.

Of course, we know that shortly afterwards (and despite Stonewall's initial opposition to it) the public was generally supportive of same-sex marriage. But by the time that the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013 was passed the Trojan horse that is the GRA had already been created and now we are in the messy position that we are.

Oops, I should have refreshed the page before posting something in response to a question that had already been answered. Apologies!

Boxowine, You're correct that BCH hasn't admitted that they are performing hysterectomies on minors. Until the last couple of weeks, for years their website said they do. Why wouldn't they say their website was incorrect and they've fixed it now. Surely that would have reasonable.

Also, BCH was not evacuated, so no one had to leave the NICU. Interestingly, the threat was called in at 8pm. The Boston police arrived at 9:20. The BPD is five literal minutes from BCH. What happened there, do you think? Did the hospital not take it seriously? Or did the police just amble on over?

Oh, also can you tell me which politicians want to execute parents of LGBT children. With elections coming up, that's important.

US politics is different than UK politics. You are refusing to accept that we do not have independent politicians who work on achieving consensus on one issue at a time. The Republican party doesn't promote a feminist agenda. Its goal is the eradication of abortion rights, the dissolution of gay marriage along with employment protections, access to birth control, erosion of workers rights in general, and the removal of social support networks. When you work to empower them you are causing harm to women and children here and that's not acceptable to me. Even if you do really hate trans people or whatever it is that makes you think that issue is more important than all of the other things that makes someone a feminist.

I don't hate trans people. 🙄 I haven't given my feelings about anyone or anything.
I don't think the trans issue is more important than others. I don't even think it's that important for adults at all.
My comment actually referred to you never being able to agree with anything a Republican might say because it would be "getting into bed with them personally I'm very into animal welfare and I would work with anyone who would further that cause. However, if I did not agree with their stance on other things, I would still speak out against them. But I would use them to do my damnedest to achieve the most I could in furthering my aims in improving animal welfare. You're not surrendering all your principles to do both.
And by the way, Mark Burns couldn't even win a republican primary so it's not like his outrageous claims are representative of the republican party. Even Trump didn't back him!
