Antipodean fruit grower statement

1000 replies

nothingcomestonothing · 27/08/2022 13:44

The antipodean fruit growers site is down. A statement from the owner reads in part:

What I fear more than losing my site, being sued, or dealing with police is living in a world where [redacted by me as would be against MN talk guidelines] while normal people are not allowed to even discuss it.

The mob has already planned subsequent targets. Should we stay down, they will then attack 'gender critical' communities - especially those ran by and for women. No place can exist online which criticizes [redacted], and nothing would excite them more than this power and domination struggle being inflicted on a female space instead.

Does anyone know where to fins null's livstreams/podcast? I really like listening him, he talks a lot of sense about the modern internet.

Terfydactyl · 05/09/2022 08:34

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 05/09/2022 00:59

Oh noes, people being mean
You lose all credibility when you come out with crap like that

So what? I was going for sarcasm. Frankly if you haven't been on the internet very long you might not have heard that theres an aibu section on here alone that you need a personality of steel to get through. Add Facebook/twitter/et al and there are plenty of places online you can get hurt feelz. Probably best if one cannot cope with harsh words and similar, one doesn't go online at all.

kittensinthekitchen · 05/09/2022 08:38

@Sonnex I can't PM for some reason, nulls Podcast is known as "Mad at the Internet", you'll find it by searching that.

Terfydactyl · 05/09/2022 08:40

ToGanymedeAndTitan · 05/09/2022 01:02

Or were you in fact somewhere else entirely, maybe baking a cake or something irl
😕😂 What has baking a cake got to do with anything, is that what you think being a woman entails so you're projecting it onto being trans?!
Mind boggles lol

Sigh if you were here you know. But for those new to this part there was a eerily similar poster to mp who when the going got tough and questions needed answering always had a cake to bake and that's why they were going offline now and could never ever once answer the questions.
Questions like
How do you know you have a gender identity?
Describe when a man turns into a woman, is it when he says those words? How does that actually happen.
And (I think) what is transphobia?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/09/2022 08:41

It was "icing a cake".

Sonnex · 05/09/2022 09:15

thanks kitten

ArabellaScott · 05/09/2022 09:18

'ridicule is the worst fear of any tyrant. You cannot repress someone who doesn't take you seriously.'

From one of the 'highlight' posts of that thread, which I'm still working through.

Candlest · 05/09/2022 09:20

It's disappointing to see The Times call people who believe in biological sex 'bigots'

ArabellaScott · 05/09/2022 09:32

The comments under that Times article are more illuminating than the actual article.

‘Floating a boat’.

Null’s podcast MATI (Mad At The Internet) is on the Apple podcast thingy and most other podcast sites, @Sonnex. he sometimes livestreams it on YouTube too.

AlisonDonut · 05/09/2022 09:49

MargaritaPie · 04/09/2022 21:27

I've seen a threat of violence made against Matthew Prince on there too.

I'm on that thread now. All the posts are numbered in the top right hand corner. Can you post whichnumbera you are referring to, these threats you saw?

Many thanks.

picklemewalnuts · 05/09/2022 10:06

Yes, receipts please!

TheClogLady · 05/09/2022 10:13

I’m also interested in those receipts!

I slimmed the thread with the highlights function and didn’t see anything threatening physical violence but I accept that the thread was long and I only read bit of it.

if anyone can direct me towards any legally suspect bits I will happily create an account and report them - Null doesn’t want illegal activity on the site and will have it deleted (and responds to subpoenas and works with law enforcement when required).

"when jk stated she could paper her walls with the threats she had received,"

Did she go to the police? Have charges been pressed against the people making the threats?

"That is not what they 'target ' people for. But I think you know that."

All the information I've read on kiwifarms so far, including content on their forums, would suggest they are a hate forum and pose a credible threat towards transpeople and potentially others.

So you haven't read this thread and don't know what a "lolcow" is. Ok then.

INTJ · 05/09/2022 10:51

Oh yeah, that happened in a FB group I'm in. Some twit calling himself Carol Marina posted something ragingly homophobic and got told off, multiple times, then banned.

He claimed to have accessed a far right homophobic Christian group through out GC group members, but only had one conversation with one account so it looks like he faked the whole thing for his YouTube video and was probably conversing with himself.

While on Reddit activists repeatedly made up accounts to post on subs they wanted gone and they'd post stuff ranging from CP to the most outrageous hate speech, apparently this was organised by one of the trans moderators (who got thoroughly doxxed by KF, and turns out to be an unemployed violent criminal).

Now they're losing ground with public opinion I expect them to turn even more nasty. They need all openly GC tolerant sites silenced because they expose their BS. Turns out a lot of the UK LGBTQ+ folx haven't even heard about the Tavistock being shut and a bunch of other stuff. They'd like to keep it that way.

Cat3i · 05/09/2022 10:58

Former Assistant Director of the FBI Frank Figliuzzi describes Kiwifarms as “responsible for the suicides of at least 3 of its stalking and harassment targets” and warns it “could easily become an increased threat of domestic
[ie US] terror”
twitter.com/FrankFigliuzzi1/status/1566438538765279232
IMO he may have more information about Kiwifarms than many posters on this forum though I expect some here will consider their own expertise unequalled.

sleepwbutterflies · 05/09/2022 11:08

The alterate DDoS provider just dropped the farms. Darknet only for the time being. I really have to hand it to the TRAs. When they make up their collective mind to cow everybody in their way, they're impressively effective at it.

As for Mr. Figliuzzi's professional opinion, arguments from authority are weak. Show us the illegal activity. Charge someone with something. Until then, his interpretation of events impresses me just a hair more than MSNBC's.

I think I read somewhere that he is now with NBC himself?

If you think suicide is caused by what people on the internet say then you have a lot to learn, and just as in rl if people are saying mean things you no longer associate or talk with those people, same holds online, dont go there , dont read stuff you dont like.
I've no idea if the farms is "responsible" or even can be held responsible for suicides. Is there a law somewhere in the world that holds mean things said by complete strangers no less to be responsible for another's suicide? I doubt it but happy to be corrected.
There have been a few high profile suicides, I dont recall anyone who might have born responsibility being taken to task about it.
Fiona ann pilkington
Amanda Todd
Megan Meier
Rosalee Avila

Plenty more names out there, I believe just one had the bullies on charge but I never heard anything else about it, probably cos the charges would never stick.

sleepwbutterflies · 05/09/2022 11:26

For the time being, only U.S. law applies to the farms. In the U.S. it is illegal to incite imminent lawless action. That is the only law AFAIK that applies, and it has been applied to suicides. However the bar is high, because this is a very limited exception to the 1st amendment. They'd have to demonstrate that someone posting a typical "KYS" comment directly caused someone to end their life in an immediate sense. I believe only the users thought to have caused it could be charged. Nobody can charge KF the whole website with committing that type of crime, due to Section 230. KF did not due the inciting in such a case. That's a sloppy reading of events which is sadly the first interpretation the average person leaps to. The average person does not understand how either the internet or the law works.

TheClogLady · 05/09/2022 11:31

if Twitter isn’t to blame for Caroline Flack’s suicide then KF isn’t to blame for Julie Terryberry or Chloe Segal’s suicide.

Suicide is a terrible thing but it’s a massive over simplification to blame a website, any website, for an individuals poor mental health (especially when the person had multiple challenging situations in their offline life, and each clearly had a particular bad situation that had recently reached crisis point).

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/09/2022 11:34

Such as this one:

A female porn actress, August Ames, relentlessly bullied online accusing her of homophobia because she said she didn't want to work with male actors who had sex with other males. She killed herself:

On December 3rd, a few days before her deathth_, Ames tweeted the following:^

Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNewsews*_, you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say… Do agents really not care about who they’re representing?… I do my homework for my body”^
The concern Ames expressed in this tweet refers to what is known in the adult industry as “crossover performers,” i.e. cisgender males who perform on camera with both cis women and other cis men, or with trans women. (Trans men are mostly left out of the crossover classification, as are cis women who perform with other cis women). Some performers and agencies share the view expressed in Ames’ tweet, that crossover talent is “higher risk” for STIs than straight male talent. Others see this standard as homophobic, as well as a flawed rubric for measuring safety.

RIP 🥝

I had chance to read Nul's insight into the account that doxed and threatened Keffals. Seems it was rather odd, only popped up a couple of times and always on Keffals threads.
They apparently managed to stalk Keffals to their hotel by hacking Keffals uber account. I'm surprised that a young computer wizz like Keffals doesn't have 2 step authentication, a easy to use security feature on Uber. But there we go. Strange times we live in.

"Darknet only for the time being"

They won't be invincible on the darknet either. While taking down a darknet site isn't straightforward, law enforcement do it all the time with darknet illegal porn sites and sites selling illegal drugs.
