Like the title says really, I'm seeing it all over twitter today and I haven't got a clue what it's about.

Hopefully racists and homophobes can have a little think, see a different behaviour modeled, and if half change their hearts then that would be excellent.

Joanne Harris’ behaviour throughout this has been, at best, childish, and at worst bullying and vindictive.

Her stupid nasty “poll” asking how many authors had received death threats just hours after Salman Rushdie was stabbed and J K Rowling told via a Tweet “don’t worry you’re next” was appalling.

I'm not a member of the Society of Authors, but if anyone here is, Julie Bindel’s letter is still open for signatures.

Can you imagine if Joanne Harris had outed herself as gender critical? She would probably have been cancelled, doxxed and hounded out of her position by now, along with the inevitable rape and death threats.

At least it's heartening to see that we GC folk can debate the issue in a reasonable manner, without people calling for cancellation and respecting the right to free speech. It really highlights the difference between TRAs and GC feminists.

Honestly, @Hearach15 trying so hard to paint AB as an ally of racists and homophobes whilst spectacularly missing the point is quite a sobering reminder of why it's increasingly impossible to reach any common ground or understanding with people who can only see the world in their terms. It's bizarre, this childish immaturity to insist the world can only be their one, pure way.

You think all racists and homophobes should be shunned, do you? You don't think bringing them into a common movement alongside people different to them might help them slowly question and challenge some of those views they have?

Also, do you think homophobic black people should be excluded from Black Lives Matter? That racist gay people should be banned from Pride? It's not always so clear cut, and ostracising people from something that is for them is not a great way to foster understanding.

And for everyone thinking it's just about a 4chan spaghetti meme - a reminder. When it's aimed at black people, even if it did come from that stupid meme, it has a different meaning. Whenever black people are the target, it always carries the echo of the other tropes/stereotypes - this is partly what people mean by systemic racism. It's not just a spaghetti meme, it taps into an entire cultural way of viewing black people. That's why it's a problem.

So true, in the pasta sauce meme above with Allison and Graham Linehan the creator deliberately chose (white) carbonara over the more obvious (dark) bolognese to ridicule her furthur.

Ah yes, the "people aren't really black/gay etc if they think a certain way" trope.

Although we might be crediting these idiots with too much creativity and intelligence.

I'd say the choice of white sauce is a deliberate sneer at Allison for not acting "black enough".

Slimy racist toads. One of my many issues with pseudo-progressives is how conditional their acceptance and tolerance is. They pretend not to be racist, but it is conditional. If someone Disagrees While Being Black, out comes all the racism.

I think that's a bit of an overreach. And no I don't think all TRAs are racist or homophobic - but I think the person in this instance certainly is. Can't help but think you're trying to paint Mumsnetters as more aggressive or unreasonable than they actually are. If that is the case, I might wonder why you're so keen to deflect from some fairly clear racism; is racism acceptable when it's directed towards someone whose views you disagree with?

My post didn't imply that at all. The now deleted post I was replying to was aggressive and unreasonable (hence deletion) - my objection to that doesn't mean I think women should be at home knitting (nice gender stereotyping there, no thanks). For clarity, not being aggressive and nasty doesn't not automatically equal being meek and quiet. What a ridiculous inference.
