How to complain about Drag Queen Story Time

ElizabethJaneHenchard · 18/08/2022 14:17

I'm going to a venue tonight that is hosting the Drag Queen Story Time later this year.
How do I complain about this, without seeming like a right-wing reactionary?
Do I hand in a letter, talking about safeguarding concerns, or how should I approach it? I will obviously be boycotting the venue from now on, if they have such a weak grasp of safeguarding, but I would like to do more than that.
What would you suggest?

Why do TRA’s eagerly assume everyone takes their kids to panto and watches Mrs Browns boys? I don’t know anyone who does either, as they are absolute shit.

ChagSameachDoreen · 19/08/2022 08:22

If this is the sort of thing that goes on at these story hours, I wouldn't want my children anywhere near one.

Why would a grown man want children crawling over him like this? Who benefits?

CheesyToasts thinks in labels and mantras but does not have anything more to say.

inappropriateraspberry · 19/08/2022 08:41

I think a better inclusive story time would be to have a genuine trans person in everyday clothing reading. Teaching children to accept that some people wear different clothes to stereotypes, rather than 'look at the man in his sparkly fancy dress.' Because that's all they'll really see.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 19/08/2022 08:46

Not me, CheeseyToasts. I'm not the slightest bit interested in Fox and why should I be? I've long reached the conclusion that most PoMo 'activism' is just random attack word generation in the vague and vain hope that someone else might see the bizarre and irrelevant accusations and be fooled by them. But if you really want to play the game of who's on who's side, I'm up for it.

Justjoinedforthis · 19/08/2022 08:51

I am GC and don’t have an issue with this, I sort of feel that it’s a good chance to say, men can dress that way too and still be men? I do see the point about it being adult entertainment, but the storytellers are obviously not telling adult jokes at these things.

Whatwouldscullydo · 19/08/2022 08:57

When you align with right wing shit you become right wing shit

So this works the other way round right?

I'd be careful saying things like this given some of the "alignments" on the other side..

OP, here's some information from another thread.

'These resources might be useful for anyone else concerned about this, and/or in the process of writing to their councils to complain:

Ahh the I’m GC line. If someone says this and then turns out to be an apologist for whatever is being discussed they are absolutely not GC

Anyone not fully supportive of drag queens mixing with children is a bigot, is that what you're saying? What does the age have to do with anything?

No? What about when their name is a pun on a sex act?

(see: 'Flo Job', brought into a Scottish primary school by Mhairi Black).

if the cap fits, wear it.

Plenty of us share concerns about trans ideology. But this is just an exercise in petty intolerance.

Ahh the “I’m GC” line.
If someone says this and then turns out to be an apologist for whatever is being discussed they are absolutely not GC.
They are just trying to make the defence of DQST seem more acceptance by putting in a bit of nuance , in fact it often goes’
”I’m GC but the issue is more nuanced’

Dear Venue,

I have some concerns over the upcoming 'drag queen story time' so I'd like you to clarify somethings for me.

What is the educational value of this event? If it is connected to diversity then will you be offering 'Storytime' with other people eg those employed in certain professions or people from minority ethnic groups?

Has this particular Queen had any complaints made against him? I have seen online some other events that I do not think are suitable for children eg a 'monkey' brandishing a large sex toy and another where it became apparent the queen was not wearing underwear and inadvertently flashed some of the audience.

Will there be any physical contact between the queen and any children? If so then is the queen DBS checked?

I realise that queens tailor their acts depending on the audience, however if I were to look up the queen with my child online would the material I found be suitable for a young child to view?

I look forward to your response.

My tolerance is stretched to the limit by men wearing women face, maybe sporting erections, in close proximity to small children. Who'd have thunk it?

Please can we cut this 'woman face' nonsense? A number of BAME posters have said they find it offensive. Go and have a look on the Black Mumsnetters board for evidence.

Onandupw · 19/08/2022 09:17

Didn’t one of the drag queens recently post an insta post with the picture of a little girl hugging him with her face right near his dick and made a dodgy joke about it?

thank goodness there’s no history of child entertainers being child abusers. Oh wait. Hang on.

So cross dressing/trans = not safe around kids.

Thanks for clarifying.
