""Modern culture has a vested interest in pretending that only female and male exist because enemies of LGBT people recognise it’s important to erase intersex people in order to uphold homophobia"

Links to this article www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/it-s-hard-to-come-out-as-intersex-people-still-don-t-know-what-it-means-1.4073377

Even if this were true, it still doesn't make any sense whatsoever, it's just a word salad to me and I'm probably better informed than the general public on what "intersex", aka VSDs or variations of sexual development, are.

As always I feel for that community who are being dragged into the pseudoscience and queer theory bollocks being spouted by a major, well-respected (not be me) charity.

“A vested interest” - yeah, we call it “science” and “reality”.

Whatwouldscullydo · 18/08/2022 10:10

People with dsds are still male or female.

Dsds wouldn't be dsds if there was a spectrum ir multiple sexes.

Do they realise they are the ones doing the erasing

CompleteGinasaur · 18/08/2022 10:13

I thought they'd finally admitted (after being told ad nauseam by actual intersex people) that DSDs are nothing to do with their campaign to queer the universe? Or did I dream that?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 18/08/2022 10:14

Stonewall has co-opted/force-teamed Intersex and are busily redefining it away from the needs of people with VSD and despite objections to reducing the nuanced medical histories of such people to a rhetorical device and gambit.

ethelredonagoodday · 18/08/2022 10:16

I had to read the sentence three times to grasp what it was trying to say.

Fenlandia · 18/08/2022 10:17

Exactly, Hadro, they're using complex medical conditions to justify "queering the binary" and telling off the rest of us for our BiGoTeD belief in male and female.

The Irish Times article is an offensive mess too.

It’s taken from a very US standpoint, where people are considered to be either

a) 100% open minded about anything

or

b) closed minded (probably religious) bigots.

An alternative where group b) might have much more nuanced views isn’t even given a second’s consideration.

I thought that too. In the Stonewall glossary they say this www.stonewall.org.uk/help-advice/faqs-and-glossary/list-lgbtq-terms

Modern culture has a vested interest in pretending that gravity exists.

But it’s not true, kids! Jump off that roof! You really can fly!

Franca123 · 18/08/2022 10:33

That made my brain bleed. More mental gymnastics. They're just playing games. Who can be the most clever clever.

TheKeatingFive · 18/08/2022 11:00

Even if it were true (it isn't) it still doesn't mean it's possible to change sex. We all know that's impossible. So it's just more muddying of the waters, confusing the discourse to bamboozle/bully people into submission.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/08/2022 11:01

Bollocks. Actually, 'modern culture' is what's trying to pretend that humans, like every other mammal, have precisely two sexes, defined by biology. This in no way 'erases intersex people'. (I also can't quite see how doing that would uphold homophobia anyway.)

Ridiculous tripe.

“A vested interest” - yeah, we call it “science” and “reality”.

My exact thoughts.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 18/08/2022 11:10

Getting desperate now, aren’t they. The revolt of the same sex attracted has jeopardised their hiding behind the perfectly reasonable behaviour and expectations of most gays ( not the dog people) , so they are resorting to the very few people with a developmental chromosomal problem. Even these people are clearly biologically male or female at the genetic level - and most of them are pretty hacked off at being hijacked for this dubious agenda.

I love ‘ modern culture’. Previous ages of course were perfectly aware and happy to celebrate the twenty eight thousand genders of StoneWlly. ( can’t keep a 😐)

ResisterRex · 18/08/2022 11:13

This is hilarious. I do admire her commitment - not to mention the fact she seems determined to go down with the ship.

GrabbyGabby · 18/08/2022 11:17

More American bullshit.

The "i" dropped off the alphabet soup for a reason. The UK organisation representing people with differences in sex development asked SW to stop using them as gotchas in the gender wars.

There is no third sex. There is nothing between male and female. There are a small number of individuals whose sex might appear ambiguous due to developmental issues. This does not mean sex is not binary.

She really doesn't need to make extra holes in it though.

Hida Vilora co-authored a book called The Spectrum of Sex: The Science of Male, Female, and Intersex.

It's time to take off the blinders and recognize and embrace the reality of a third sex - intersex, a diverse biological spectrum between male and female.

Introducing readers to seven variations of human sex, commonly considered intersex, the book challenges the myth that sex and gender are exclusively binary and explores the inherent diversity of biological sex and its relationship to gender identity and expression, and the impact this has on society.

MangyInseam · 18/08/2022 11:35

It's typical of the problem here that they continue to use the word "intersex". I don't get my knickers in a twist generally about enforcing language usage, but in this case it's making it harder for her to think clearly because she is thinking of intersex as a kind of third sex. DSD is much more clear.

But the part where she says denying intersex people is a way to maintain homophobia - what is the logic there? That accepting the existence of a third "in-between" sex makes it impossible to be homophobic, I guess because they will have to be having some kind of non-heterosexual sex?

This is why building a system on a poorly described poorly founded belief gets you into trouble.

Wellies54 · 18/08/2022 11:37

Surely when she says 'many indigenous societies did acknowledge sex and gender diversity ...' what she means is gender norms in different cultures are different and Western culture being what it is, we saw this as wrong and tried to impose our own values. I don't think indigenous cultures were confused about the basic biology of reproduction.

5zeds · 18/08/2022 11:41

These people bore me. It’s like getting a Jehovah’s Witness spouting utter drivel about they’re take on Christianity. There are two sexes male and female. I don’t care how you dress unless I’m being forced to see bits of you naked I don’t want to. Some things are single sex and your gender is irrelevant.

WanOvaryKenobi · 18/08/2022 11:41

So the CEO of Stonewall is saying once again that homosexuality and same-sex attraction do not exist.

ErrolTheDragon · 18/08/2022 11:45

I can't make out any logic to it at all. If there was a 'third sex' (of necessity an infertile one as anyone fertile is clearly and indisputably male or female) I'd guess quite a lot of homophobes would just think such people should be celibate. Or wouldn't care so long as the individual's orientation aligned with their appearance. Or.... well, almost anything except say, 'oh, it's now impossible for me to be homophobic'. Confused

NecessaryScene · 18/08/2022 11:46

I don't think indigenous cultures were confused about the basic biology of reproduction.

Or indeed which sex was supposed to play which gender role.

And the "gender diversity" they're referring to is usually the invention of an extra "gender role" box for effeminate gay men.

Is this "gay men are not real men" approach something she approves of?

Dreikanter · 18/08/2022 11:46

I’m also not sure why Kelly is tweeting now about an article from November 2019.

It’s almost like SW are looking for something else to get stuck into.
