It’s important to say I don’t celebrate a clinic closing because I don’t want the service to be available, but because I want a great and safe service to be available: the Tavistock was not providing this. I really want good services available for children and hope they come soon.

well done Dr Cass!

Absolutely. If they do actually say what they’re going to then the service will be so much better for children who need help with gender dysphoria and actually be evidence based like the rest of medicine.

I think closing the Tavistock and restarting with a more rounded service will be so much easier than trying to sort out the mess at the current clinic. I hope it can be arranged quickly so that children who need help can access these services as soon as possible.

Punched the air in celebration when I saw this.

Please let 'holistic' have a bit of watch and wait. Look for ND traits. See if there's abuse or bullying or anything else behind wanting to escape one sex.

Of course if there's a long term dysphoria then transitioning might be the way ahead for those individuals, but let's not have it as the first port of call for a gender stereotype non-conforming child (because it is all about the stereotype. I loved Scifi, Fantasy, climbing trees, D&D, Warhammer etc back in the 80s/90s. I was never gender confused. I used to joke pre twattery that my inner child was a 14 year old boy, but really - women and girls can love these things too)

Also in tears of relief about this news. So glad that local services will be integrated with local CAMHS and are explicitly intended to address the needs of young people with gender dysphoria in a holistic manner that addresses other potential sources of their distress.

This is fantastic news. Closing the clinic does not mean ceasing treatment.

It looks to me as though the treatment will now be far more refined and customised to address the reasons for these children to say they are trans.

Accepting that there is no such thing as a trans child, but a child who is suffering from something else and has been told that transgenderism is the answer, is a huge deal.

Now, they just need to get this dangerous ideology out of schools and stop forcibly creating the trans child myth.

What a week!

Wondering when the final Cass report is due. Can't believe the two are unrelated. This feels like a major corner turned.

Huge thanks are due to some seriously brave individuals - Keira Bell and Mrs A. But also Sonia Appleby and the other clinicians who gave evidence at her employment tribunal. Much lower profile, but got really key things about safeguarding failures and entrenched ideology into the public record.

I burst into tears when I read that! A huge thank you to Keira and the whistle blowers, who’ve put their careers on the line by speaking out about the monstrosity that it The Tavistock.

I can just see Mermaids and others now trying to wheedle their way into the new centres. This must NOT be allowed to happen!!

I think a huge appreciation goes to everyone who contributed to Keira's case and who worked to raise awareness of the issues associated with the Tavistock. It is terrible for those who may have received inappropriate care to date. But hopefully will be able to access better care going forward. Hopefully the new services will also be there to support detransitioners. Enough women (mainly) have looked out for the next generations of young people. This forum has been a place for discussion when no debate was rife. I find that amazing. Emotional as well.

Wondering when the final Cass report is due. Can't believe the two are unrelated. This feels like a major corner turned.

According to the Telegraph:

“New recommendations from the Cass review, due to be released on Thursday, state that “staff should maintain a broad clinical perspective in order to embed the care of children and young people with gender uncertainty within a broader child and adolescent health context’.“

Such good news! Holistic centres based in existing children’s hospitals is a great idea. Those hospitals are already fully aware that adult treatments are often inappropriate for children, and it is harder to become one-track focussed when you’re in a multidisciplinary workplace. They’ve promised proper research into long term effects of treatments too.

Its been bloody hard work to get here, and it’s appalling that any of this was allowed to happen. But what a brilliant week so far! Many thanks to all the women who are / were willing to take people to court to get this all out in the open.
