Just the best best week ever!💃💃💃

LizzieSiddal · 28/07/2022 13:41

Keira on R4 saying what fantastic news.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 28/07/2022 13:41

When I told her about the Tavistock she said 'the doctors know what they are doing. I trust medicine. No one is treating kids with untested medications.' Well, maybe she will reflect on this and wonder if there is something to my position after all.

It's golden bridge time and eyes on the prize.

I hope many people will paused to reconsider what they held to be true because they hadn't looked further into the matter and relied upon others, all of whom had the imprimatur of respectability confirmed on them by MSM and major charities.

Polish that golden bridge, look at it gleam in the sunshine, and when people cross it, they should find a welcome mat and beverage of their choice.

MissStress · 28/07/2022 13:42

Big news!!

RoyalCorgi · 28/07/2022 13:42

Wonderful news. After we've fought so long, this feels like a moment that would never come.

Thank you to all the brave whistleblowers who went through hell - you were vindicated.

And is it too much to hope that Newsnight will apologise to Graham Linehan for the shameful way they treated him?

VestofAbsurdity · 28/07/2022 13:44

'Not safe for Children' that is a dynamite line, now come on Stonewall, Mermaids, et al defend that and put it out firmly and clearly into the open what your true colours are.

Seems like the Cass Review is going to be very damning regarding safeguarding children.

Theluggage15 · 28/07/2022 13:45

What fantastic news! Massive congratulations to all those who spoke up, especially brave Keira Bell.

Cheesecakeandwineinasuitcase · 28/07/2022 13:45

Some good news for a change!

Needmoresleep · 28/07/2022 13:46

What wonderful news. Children/teenagers with dysphoria need to be listened to and treated sympathetically, but in a holistic way.

Some children, probably a small minority, will have dysphoria. For others it might be a symptom rather than the root cause.

Amongst the many people to thank might be the very honest RoseofDawn. They are certain about their own dysphoria, but equally clear that this is not a decision to be taken too lightly or too early.

Nightmare2022 · 28/07/2022 13:46

I’m a parent of an autistic child with mental health problems struggling with their gender identity and I couldn’t be more delighted by this news.

Thanks to everyone who has made this happen.

Dwrcegin · 28/07/2022 13:48

Good.

Fingers crossed any service will now counsel and support children with dysphoria into adulthood, instead of rushing them to hormones and surgery.

MajorieEks · 28/07/2022 13:48

Datun do you know where the “not a safe or viable long-term option” comes from? I've looked at Dr Cass's letter to the NHS and can't find it there but it's quoted in the Times so it must have come from somewhere!

ohholyday · 28/07/2022 13:49

Quick! Shut it down before the lawsuit tsunami hits!

Wouldloveanother · 28/07/2022 13:49

Sidaway · 28/07/2022 13:37

It's interesting to see which news outlets are the most "captured" by how they're reporting on it:

Times & Telegraph: detailed articles
BBC News: a very short piece stating just the bare facts
Guardian: so far, tumbleweed...

Nothing yet from Mermaids. I imagine they’re sat around the table preparing a statement.

Thingybob · 28/07/2022 13:50

I agree it's good news but wanted to point out that the letter from Hilary Cass doesn't rule out puberty blockers completely. It will be down to the regional hubs to select the appropriate group who will benefit from them.

NitroNine · 28/07/2022 13:50

Hopefully this outcome can be used to help in the reshaping of Northern Ireland’s Gender Identity Services too.

There’s been some truly ridiculous commentary around the issues with the current services - for example people apparently thinking that staff should be forced to work there 🤨

Hoardasurass · 28/07/2022 13:50

Now we just need to get the Sandford clinic in Scotland shut down too.

Artichokeleaves · 28/07/2022 13:51

It's almost like when they read words, they give them a meaning opposite to everyone else !

When you're listening to an agency coming from the fundamental point of view of selective facts and feelings creating reality, and of unwanted bits of reality not existing at all with no ability to face up to hard evidence or other opinions on one specific major matter?

I'm always surprised at myself that I am still surprised when they show difficulty with being rational or coping with facts and reality on other matters too.

MsFannySqueers · 28/07/2022 13:51

Well said @MrsOvertonsWindow I totally agree with you.

nettie434 · 28/07/2022 13:51

They're discussing this on The World at One www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0019kk7

Starts about 35 minutes in (links sometimes don't work immediately after broadcast.

Keira Bell is being interviewed. She is being very factual and coming across very well. I still don't understand why the GID collected so little data but still received funding. It reflects badly on the Tavistock and Portman Trust as a whole (which has a good reputation) and those commissioning the service. I think this will be a big part of the final Cass report.

GrowlingManchego · 28/07/2022 13:51

Rojjahri · 28/07/2022 13:29

It is very much a shame for the patients who do feel supported their though - whatever our feelings on whether this should happen or not, losing a therapeutic support team is a horrible thing to go through, particularly for those who may have been there a while.

Very true, I’m glad it’s closed and can make way for more evidence based care. But I hope that there will be a plan and supporting budget to ensure that people already under these teams can still access good care relatively seamlessly.

Datun · 28/07/2022 13:52

No. I wondered if it was in her interim report.

They're obviously getting it from somewhere.

Datun · 28/07/2022 13:53

Maybe they have sight of her final report, which isn't yet finished. That would be awesome.

BreadInCaptivity · 28/07/2022 13:53

Spot the difference....

MrsPlumbhouse · 28/07/2022 13:54

Out of interest, does anyone here know if the Anna Freud foundation has links with the Tavistock clinic or what their views on training vulnerable kids are?
