THE South Yorkshire town of Cleckburton used to be a thriving industrial hub. Today its shops are boarded up and there are no jobs, hopes or prospects for its inhabitants.

The reason? The onslaught of wokeness, a process which began in the late 1970s and has since laid waste to the town.

Longtime resident Roy Hobbs said: “Back in the day this was a lovely place. People looked out for each other, chatted over their back fences and were casually racist about anyone not born within a ten-mile radius of the market square.

“And now it’s dead. My dad told me that it was the result of de-industrialisation and a lack of investment in the North by successive governments but it turns out he was wrong because the Daily Mail says it’s all down to wokeness.

Whilst they think they're being funny about the Conservatives, the Daily Mash is just promoting the same old view held by most of the elite that Northern people are racist idiots.

Unsurprisingly the demographic of the readership is quite well-off. Seems rather elitist humour.

I think what Antifacist is trying to say is that he believes all Mumsnet users to be just like those in the spoof article, he is calling everyone racist, sexist and transphobic. He doesn't seem like a nice person.

It wants to be satire. But satire isn't as easy as people imagine to do well.

The trick is that it has to be accurate in an unexpected way, and this just isn't. It's clumsy and dumbs things down.

god, this is so gross. When I think about devastation caused across South Yorkshire and how it could potentially relate to disliking “wokeness”… well, let’s just say that “pronouns” is not what springs to mind. It is insulting to Yorkshire people actually. Why choose South Yorkshire... because they have a strong accent and a load of stereotypes about flat caps and whippets?

The vast majority of people living there are actually warm, decent people who treat others with a blunt, open kindness you don't get so much in the south east I've found. You get racism, social problems, poverty everywhere. This is very much written from the punching down, snobbish attitude which is in part responsible for so many people from these places voting leave, not because they are racist but because they feel left behind.

Yep, very much the posh metropolitan lads at Daily Mash having a laugh at the backward northerners. Because they think they're better than them. But that's ok, 'cause DM is left wing.
