Just a heads up the LGB Alliance are allotmenteering as Mermaids is challenging their charitable status. They need about 140 000 carrots, parsnips, beetroot, chard etc to fight this.

@Hearach15 im confused. Are you saying we shouldn’t talk about Peter Tatchells views because he is gay? Would you say we shouldn’t talk about his views if he wasn’t gay? Why should we not discuss the fact you are holding stonewall up as a beacon of virtue when one of the founders is a oedophile apologist and the current CEO is a homophobe? Yet you are allowed to slander and defame anyone you choose?

Helleofabore · 14/07/2022 13:28

I'm just saying that you've previously said you know nothing about this issue and yet keep posting about it. It's very strange.

What is strange is that because of YOUR deeply prejudiced posts demonising this group, I have gone and done research on them and more research on Stonewall. So, it seems that perhaps I may know as much about LGB Alliance, maybe even more, as you do. Enough to assess your posts as being evidence free and purely based on bad takes and misinformation.

What is strange is when you have had it explained, and even had Nancy Kelley’s quotes repeatedly posted on other threads to answer your posts, you ignore it. You have certainly plugged your ears when Peter Tatchell has been mentioned. You have told us you are not interested in looking at his words (hint: read one of the threads on MN, dedicated to disseminating his work, I always encourage people to look at original sources and those threads have those links ). How strange to demonise one LGB group while refusing to acknowledge the easy to find, and no need to interpret because the context is clear, dire quotes from Stonewall?

Strange how you want to tell people that they shouldn’t post on a LGB thread if they are not LGB, while you, personally, are posting quite hypocritically on a feminist board. And that you try to deny that you are trying to control who posts and where.

Strange that you also are adamant that only LGB people should have the right to comment and interact with LGB groups. … do you apply that logic to Stonewall? how about every business make the decision that Stonewall is only to be supported by LGB people and contribute according to the proportion of their staff that are LGB? That follows your logic. And no influential supporters who are not LGB should mention or give any support to Stonewall.

No hearache, I may not have the lived experience of some posters on this thread and I have acknowledged that. I do actually have some knowledge and history around the topic from close friends. You know…. Just like those friends you reference when you make your many posts about trans people.

Just more hypocrisy from you really.

However, I am not here dictating changes to LGB people’s rights or their protections. I am here learning lots about Stonewall and LGB Alliance despite your paltry evidenced posts. Not from you, to be absolutely clear.

But despite you, and from some very articulate women as well as my own research.

And besides, your continued posts (even those that then get deleted) keep bumping this thread so even more people read it and contribute to their case. Brilliant stuff!

How much will the LGBA need?

£215,000 initially.

Conflictedunicorn · 14/07/2022 15:12

To be fair @Helleofabore , I’m now only on this thread for your masterful smack downs of earache. You are the hero we needed.

Thank you. So some furious digging and planting need

The key campaign strategy the LGB Alliance pursues is to challenge 'transing-the-gay'. The statistics from The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust pointed-out even in 2012 that over 70% of the children and adolescents referred to it for gender dysphoria were same-sex-attracted. And Stonewall has made it clear that it opposes same-sex-attraction, and its CEO Nancy Kelly claims that lesbians seeking same-sex partners are akin to 'sexual racists'.

So I comprehend how some have determined LBGA to be a 'hate group'. Quite simply I regard such people as following a homophobic agenda and have a particular axe to grind against an organisation that seeks to challenge those who are attacking gays and lesbians.

The LGB Alliances message could be more clear;

However, I am not here dictating changes to LGB people’s rights or their protections. I am here learning lots about Stonewall and LGB Alliance despite your paltry evidenced posts.

I also want to again point out that my posts are more about fact checking your posts and others similarly lacking in truth and logic, or me posting sources/links, rather than me actually commenting on LGB issues.

If your posts don’t stand up to scrutiny, that is an issue for you to resolve.

And, maybe, just maybe you should break out of whatever bubble you exist in on the internet and go and post on 90s pop or science threads.

It is called learning through exchanging information … oh… right. To ‘learn’, you would be expected to back up posts with even a modicum of fact based opinion rather than continually just posting ‘x is bigoted’ and sigh… you would have to be open to understanding any other point of view.

Just a reminder that people looking for any allotments can paste ‘Defend LGB Alliance's Charity Status’ in Google.

"They've never done anything for LGB people. They're a group founded to campaign against trans people and nothing else."

Excellent comedy turn. I think the RNLI campaigns against trans people too. I mean, do they centre trans people? No. Definitely transphobic.

Yes the RNLI’s failure to focus solely on the needs of trans people is particularly abhorrent now we know that trans people are literally all drowning following the FINA decision to “ban” them from elite swimming competitions. Hopefully Mermaids can get the RNLI banned too 🙄

Dug.

And as usual, it's the absolute desperation of TRAs at large, and on this thread, which motivates me.

Talk about loudly alerting everyone to the problem.

Desperately trying to discredit the LGBA while they're actually in the process of defending themselves against spurious attacks, is not the smartest thing to do, is it?

I'm just left thinking that these people like the sound of their own voice, way more than they believe in their 'cause'.

From the crowdfunder:

Mermaids says that LGB Alliance, the only UK charity working exclusively for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals, should not have been given charitable status

what the actual fuck has it got to do with Mermaids?

bunch of controlling odd bods

what the actual fuck has it got to do with Mermaids?

I may be misremembering but I seem to remember that Stonewall and the ironically names Good Law Project were also originally involved, but their names mysteriously disappeared.

McDuffy · 18/07/2022 22:17

How are mermaids allowed to do this? It's such a waste of charity money!

JanieAllen · 18/07/2022 22:49

I've no idea ... I have to rely on others who understand the law... but it does smack of misuse of law but I'm not a lawyer

OP posts:
Charley50 · 19/07/2022 07:02

Just donated but I don't understand why this is going to court. Other charities are allowed to exclude, why couldn't the Charity Commission tell Mermaids that it had already been looked into, and LGBA is a legitimate charity? Will Mermaids have to pay all these costs if LGBA win the first bit?

Abhannmor · 19/07/2022 08:15

Mermaids are in a bit of bother with all their sponsors and champions tap dancing away.

But I think I see a way out if you'll permit me : The Charity Commission should take away charitable status from those awful transphobes RNLI and allow Mermaids to take over their duties!

Those aquatic angels are perfectly suited to this noble task.
