Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is CIS a legal term?

So I had a conversation with a friend the other day who is adamant Cis is an accurate descriptor of women and that it is written into law?
I asked where but she couldn't specify just stating it's a factual term (referencing women) that is legally recognized.
I've had a look and can't seem to find anything to back this up, but I know the wise women here will know if there is any truth to this.
Thanks in advance.

Pronouns as a thing seems to be another thing that people wish was a law rather just a trendy new practice.

I suspect the problem is I am too educated. I was an early adopter, back in 2004. Saw the transwomen I knew as women, the non-binaries as non-binary and all that. "Woman" was a gender identity.

I have literally never seen any biological males as women and don't plan to start now. Woman has its original meaning, so they will need to find another word.

No, just most of us have half a brain and compassion to understand that that statement is hurtful and unnecessary

It might well be "hurtful" like lots of reality is. It's very necessary though.

Only for one group of people. I bet you can't give me an example of any other time you behave/speak like that about people.

tobee · 11/07/2022 19:11

"Yes, feminists, it appears!"

Lol

They are doing them. You just don't like it.

the irony is, ti's the feminists who are trying to make everyone else see things their way! "humans cannot change sex" ad nauseum - why doesnt you do you apply there?

The huge effort put forth into trying to convince women they can't say no, they can't opt out of the religion.

Soz. Not doing it.

Call yourself what you like. And your power ends there.

All about me?

If someone is rude to me I have no reason to be nice to them
You think o am. Second class citizen whose thoughts and feelings are irrelevant?

RoseslnTheHospital · 11/07/2022 19:07

@beautyisthefaceisee you object to accurate scientific statements being made in general? Or do you mean in reference to discussing transgender ideology? Or do you mean directly to a specific trans person?

If a transwoman asked me directly if I thought they were female, I must lie and say that they are? Even though that's not true and not what I believe?

I object to people saying "but humans cant change sex" with wide eyes and wringing hands and pretending they are either too insensitive or too dim to understand the impact that has on people.

The same people who expect me to refuse to use the word ciswoman at work because it offends them.

Feminists are the ones making all the demands while not giving 1mm to the other side.

No, i'm calling the fact you thiink other people have pronouns just to upset you wonderfully arrogant.

Its true though.

You find the word cisgender offensive and somehow we shouldnt use it but its okay to mock, degrade and belittle trans people?

bellinisurge · 11/07/2022 19:14

But humans can't change sex

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/07/2022 19:14

Flat earthers? People who think covid is a government conspiracy? People who deny climate change exists?

none of which are comparable to trans, but well done on doubling down on the offense.

The irony is not lost on you then.

Flolawri · 11/07/2022 19:16

@beautyisthefaceisee technically they are right, humans can't change sex. You can't change whether you have XX or XY chromosomes which are what determines the sex.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/07/2022 19:17

I'm not pretending or wide eyed. Their feelings are their own, if people want to deny reality they need to accept that other people will point out the truth, because reality doesn't respect people's individual sensibilities.

Humans cannot change sex. That is a fact.

thesootherfairy · 11/07/2022 16:59

CIS = Construction Industry Scheme. Tax scheme for subcontractors. An HMRC term nothing to do with gender.

Next time someone mentions it. You can casually say: "oooh. I'm not self employed subbie but PAYE thanks" and watch the confusion on their little faces.

I say that all the time. It’s the only place I know CIS from.

onlywhenidream · 11/07/2022 19:18

Humans actually can't change sex

Ereshkigalangcleg · 11/07/2022 19:18

Well, we all see things in our own way.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/07/2022 19:18

No, it's obviously not ok to do those things. You seem to be implying that's the standard behaviour of feminists in general. Hopefully that's not what you intended to convey?

I must admit I take the fence-sitting position if never saying it (with or without wide eyes or wrung hands) but I of course know it’s scientific fact, I just refrain from saying it to try to be tactful.

Stauncher logicians than I will inevitably say it, though, when non-facts are repeatedly pushed on them as facts. Trying to alter fact is not the way to win this crusade.

It should be quite possible to come up with a polite truce if the extreme campaigning wing would only stop trying to change the ordinary meaning of normal words.

So, you object to the idea that humans can't change sex being mentioned at all. Because...? It's hurtful to people who believe they have or can change sex? Well tough. And I'm not saying it with any kind of faux anything, no wide eyes here. I'm saying it firmly and deliberately because sometimes sex matters.

If Oli London asks me if I agree that he is Korean, then I would have to say no. If Rachel Dolezal asked me if I agreed that she is African American, I'd say no. If the Lizardman asked me if I agreed he was actually a lizard, well, I'm sure you can guess what I'd say. (Tbf I don't think Erik Sprague actually thinks he is reptilian).

HipTightOnions · 11/07/2022 19:20

While say it deliberately or carelessly to cause offence I have found it necessary to say "humans can't change sex" because children have been encouraged to believe it's possible, and they need to understand that it isn't.

If they were being coached to believe humans could fly, we'd need to put them straight on that too.

HipTightOnions · 11/07/2022 19:20

"While I don't say it..."

onlywhenidream · 11/07/2022 19:21

Could I just ask that people do not assume all trans people think alike

Many know that sex change is not possible
Many know that their feelings are no more important than anyone else's
Many are being harmed by gender activists
