what a star! if only so many on Mumsnet could do the same

"I cannot think of anything that helps women’s rights less than pinning the blame on trans women. They face so much violence and scrutiny as is. Leave them alone and focus on the real war on women. It’s happening in the courts and legislatures around this country."

you're right I did spell her name incorrectly to begin with.

i don't really think that justifies your abusive post.

your username is fairly unpleasant as well

Just cutting and pasting my post to you from yet another thread where you were throwing around the term “fascist”:

It’s the very height of bad taste and poor judgment to throw around accusations of “fascism”. Deeply juvenile — in my day only done by a certain kind of teenage public schoolboy who liked to model himself on The Young Ones.
^^
It’s really exceptionally ignorant and poor taste to compare people whose perfectly lawful political views you just don’t happen to like, to what happened under fascism. For shame — when there’s real war going on right now showing you what happens under actual totalitarian politics — tanks, bombs, rape, mass murder, cities left in rubble. You people should be absolutely ashamed to go about spouting such ignorant hyperbolic rubbish.
^^
I tell you what — whose political system will you prefer when the jackboots start marching in? Would you prefer to be somewhere like Mariupol today, with your family being shelled by soldiers from an extreme regime; or won’t it seem that bad then to live in a normal democratic society where people haven’t actually literally murdered anyone, but are merely actually allowed to air their silly old opinions no matter whether you disagree?
^^
Do some bloody reading about “fascism” to start with, and have a bit of a think about what it looks like to be spouting such childish and arrant nonsense at people ffs.

—I have no time for Jordan Peterson, but why don’t you get back to us about “fascism” next time those people you don’t happen to like start shooting dissidents, joining the secret police, setting up concentration camps, or rolling into villages in their tanks, okay?

Oh, lovely! What sort of puppy?
A cocker spaniel. He’s like a cartoon dog, tail non stop wagging, happy out, getting well used to the madness (4 kids and 2 cats!)

I do hope that the cats have asserted their absolute rights to (a) all food (b) all comfy beds (including laps).

Yes I did read that post- I thought it was rather incoherent, all things considered.

Then you really do need to do some reading and educate yourself, if you can’t understand it. You clearly don’t understand what “fascism” means, and as a result you’re making a fool of yourself. “Fascism adjacent”? What a deeply stupid phrase.

Oh, so sweet, I can sleep now, it sounds like you might not get much chance to Smile. My dad had a springer that was a lovely dog but a raving lunatic. Cocker spaniel pups are adorable, little, furry, energetic dots. Goodnight.

I'm aware that there are some on mumsnet who call things they disagree with or are unfamiliar with "deeply stupid" or worse.

But "fascist-adjacent" is fairly common ans is used by writers from the Atlantic to the Telegraph

How deeply ironic that you’re reporting people to the MN “authorities” when you don’t like the terms they use.

Sounds a bit…well, fascist-adjacent, no?

Pallisers · 08/07/2022 01:05

I don't understand the statement about pinning the blame on transwomen. Who is doing that?

I live in the US and am deeply concerned about abortion rights. I pin the blame on republicans, the supreme court and various other people. Not transwomen.

I do, however, think that the discussion about abortion needs to happen with the word woman being used. All I heard in the run up to this disasterous decision is "folks who find themselves pregnant" or "people need reproductive healthcare' Of course when the decision came down it is WOMEN, not folks or people, who will bear children, risk their health and lives. language can't change biological destiny.

So I don't relate to her statement at all as I've never blamed transwomen for anything. most people haven't. Most people aren't that aware of them tbh.

What offensive term is that then? Do you mean my username? I’m reclaiming it hun. I don’t think @MNHQ have rules in regard to usernames do they? If they don’t like mine there’s plenty of others in a similar vein, @MNHQ will be busy if they decide to police them. Not sure what you mean about admiring Lynda Carter together either tbh. I don’t admire her, I do however recognise her as someone who knows her target market and how to not upset them. Whatevs, up to her I suppose.

one has made friends and they are co existing amicably, possibly because she wanted an allie from the other cat, who was always, um, interesting, around other animals. Good time and bed time is now a musical chairs circus but they’ve all found their places to get comfy!

There’s a cat here who’s trying to assert his absolute right to breakfast at 4am.

It’s come up against my absolute right to be fast asleep at 4am. The struggle continues.

@Pallisers

I suspect that some of if may come from the capitalist nature of the medical system in the US. There is overlap in the abortion provider brand of Planed Parenthood and hormone provision. Planned Parenthood is very TWAW and pregnant people.

Then there is the whole saga of how abortion is not a Womans Issue, its only a "stepping stone" issue. If only Black [and..] birthing bodies and Others accepted that men get pregnant too, the Court would have ruled differently.

Waitwhat23 · 08/07/2022 07:29

It's not the Young Ones I think of when I see someone constantly throwing out the term facism in all and every circumstance, regardless of context but the 'Crypto-facist' scene from the Red Dwarf episode Timeslides.

I fear it is pre - 2012. However it is very funny.

KittenKong · 08/07/2022 07:39

Yup. Comedy these days - is pretty lame. Everyone too scared to offend anyone (except women).

yes i agree

and as an extra note MNHQ don’t make a fuss about user names containing the word TERF as TERF isn’t a banned word (unless someone is called a TERF obviously as that can be taken as a personal attack)

ContradickstoryEvidence · 08/07/2022 09:35

Hmm. MN Mods asked me to change my previous user name and to change it on my posts under that name. It had "Terf" in it, but I think it was the "Trans Shite" part that had blubbers running to find a safe space. Not a big deal to me, as I change names every few weeks to protect the living, but interesting nevertheless to see what combination of words set off the TRAs.

ContradickstoryEvidence · 08/07/2022 13:23

I went down the Wonder Woman rabbit hole. It's creator, William Moulton Marsten, was heavily into BDSM, hence the skimpy costume and the tying up with the lasso of truth. Wonder Woman was a composite character, based on the woman he and his wife had a threesome living arrangement with (the wife was given no choice in the matter), and his aunt, with whom he started a sex cult. He was originally a psychology researcher, specialising in conducting experiments on female sexual arousal through submission. He spent a lot of time tying up young women in the name of his research. The whole WW origin story is akin to a male sexual fantasy about dominatrixes. Marsten took advantage of the 1930/40s rise in comic books amongst youngsters (and their violent/forbidden fruit content that had created a degree of moral panic) to depict the content that he was interested in to children - women tying each other up/being tied up by men, and female empowerment through rejecting traditional gender roles through fetish feminism.

LaughingPriest · 08/07/2022 13:33

Anyone managed to pin down yet what the group of people there is a "war on" are? something called "women". The dictionary says these are people who are female. Is that what Linda meant, do we think?

Ah then, it fits totally in with the current “kink-positive” agenda! Why be fully autonomous beings with full civil rights, when you can instead be “faux empowered” through submissive fetishised objectification, and being reduced to your sex organs?

I’m surprised she isn’t already advertising a range of BDSM tights for the umbrella people tbh.

@ContradickstoryEvidence — you see, you and I think this is ghastly, and a complete betrayal of women by objectification and commercial and personal sexual exploitation, and about as far from genuine feminism as can be. I think we just can’t envisage any way in which this could be anything but the grossest misogyny and sexism. But we have to remember that the current versions of “choice feminism” are so topsy turvy that rather than be horrified at its origins, they actually see this as a positive.

How did feminism for young women even reach this point where exploitation is somehow reimagined as pseudoliberation? It’s in fact this that is deeply right wing, deeply capitalist and commodified, and full to the brim of false ideologies and idols.

It’s all of a piece with the pro-“sex work”, pro-men’s sexual rights, pro-capitalist ideas that so many of our “guest posters” like to plop in and try to convince us are so absolutely fantastic and “empowering”.

ContradickstoryEvidence · 08/07/2022 14:54

@theclangersarecoming I was actually pretty startled at how this man's "vision" of female empowerment, formulated in the early part of the 20th C, sounded straight out of the modern day, Only Fans-esque narrative of female empowerment through a type of sexual "freedom" that mainly benefits voyeuristic/cock-lodging/pimp men. The goddesses of Paradise Island could not be left alone to their own happiness and fulfilment. Nope, they had to plop a male into the middle of it all.
