Deliberately taking statements out of context, name calling and refusing to argue the actual points whilst using the dead cat tactic is tiresome and worth ignoring.

LeniGray · 01/07/2022 19:55

Fucksake … if I’m gonna hang around MN, I’m really gonna have to get on Twitter. <Sigh> 😕

Pixiedust1234 · 01/07/2022 20:01

Thank you for the link. Thats a very clear letter, hopefully they reply back just as clearly.

antifascist · 01/07/2022 20:25

In what way is referring to the fact that Baroness Nicholson sponsored a Private Members' Bill called "the Abortion (Foetus Protection) Bill " which was described as "A Bill to lower the gestational time limit for abortion to 12 weeks" taking a statement out of context?

Nicholson has been consistently anti abortion, anti gay and anti lesbian throughout her political career.

Some people who frequent this forum wish to portray her as in some way supportive of women's rights and lesbian and gay rights although she is nothing of the kind.

They are misrepresenting her entire political career because they are supportive of her reactionary agenda

If you expect anyone to take you seriously on here, you really need to stop with the sexist tropes.

Don't you have any mates to be out with on a Friday night?

She is very good at making clear points, and they're all ascertainable, checkable facts.

antifascist · 01/07/2022 20:36

Baroness Nichsolson's lifelong commitment to campaign against abortion rights and equality for lesbians and gays are also "ascertainable, checkable facts"which some posters on here seem to consider irrelevant.

people of all genders drink prosecco and visit stormfront.

pbj · 01/07/2022 20:40

Why don’t you have more Prosecco @antifascist

You keep mentioning it. Go on, treat yourself!

antifascist · 01/07/2022 16:49

what an unpleasant piece of bigotry by someone who is a committed campaigner against Abortion and LGBTQ+ more generally. Nicholson voted against same sex marriage and sponsored a bill to reduce abortion to 12 weeks

bills.parliament.uk/bills/2028

It's horrifying to see how people who have so many provocative links to far right websites at their fingerstips are now backing reactionaries want to take rights away from women

Are you saying tha far right are backing stonewall now? Wow! I’d not thought of that but it makes sense. Stonewalls tactic do hint of the nazi rise to power. Glad you’re fighting them with us

Anactor · 01/07/2022 20:55

Antifascist - are you American?

antifascist · 01/07/2022 21:11

I'm saying that those of you who are portraying Nicholson as someone who has shown “long running support of the LGB community” or as “ an awesome woman” “a woman with a sterling career in actual human rights,” should be made aware of her record of opposing gay marriage, supporting Section 28 opposing lesbian parents and trying to restrict abortion rights.

And we're saying that you repeating yourself over and over again with information most of us knew already doesn't make it any more interesting than it was the first time you said it.

antifascist · 01/07/2022 21:30

I can understand that you wish to ignore Baroness Nicholson‘s long record of homophobia and attempts to restrict abortion rights because you wish to portray her as an LGB and feminist heroine.

you are lying ,

Artichokeleaves · 01/07/2022 21:31

Noisyprat · 01/07/2022 09:39

Strongly worded and correct however I'm
It comfortable with the use of Twitter poles, I would never use this as 'proof' of anything.

This is a good point. I wish there would be some properly set up voting on this, that can't be brigaded or fixed, or drawn from biased or selected groups, and is properly representative. It would be very useful.

antifascist · 01/07/2022 21:33

if you knew of Baroness Nicholson‘s lifetime record of homophobia why are you representing her as showing “long running support for the LGB community?

Thanks, that's much clearer Smile

ScrollingLeaves · 01/07/2022 22:13

Sorry to derail but:
Re Baroness Nicholson and Abortion, I just looked her up and their is nuance to her stance: her concern is over abortion being used as eugenics. She questions the idea that anyone born with a disability will have a life not worth living. She herself was born 80% deaf and suffered partial loss of eyesight aged 11. Therefore she has a view against eugenics based on her experience.

People may think she is wrong, but she is not the equivalent of an American male prohibiting abortion even after incest or rape, in a country where there is no free healthcare and dire social welfare.

ScrollingLeaves · 01/07/2022 22:15

She did not mean all disabilities by the way. She recognised that there are those that would cause terrible suffering to the child as a different category.

KittenKong · 01/07/2022 22:17

The flags are 💩.

Helleofabore · 01/07/2022 23:10

I see we have another poster who seems to forget how laws are made under the Westminster Parliament system.

If a proposed law does not fulfill the need that a MP’s constituents want, or that MP sees potential issues arising from the wording of the law, they don’t vote for it. It is not like a popular vote, it is making law. And LGB lobby groups at the time expressed some reservations with the law when Baroness Nicholson voted against it.

She has publicly stated why she did. It wasn’t at all how some posters have expressed it. It was again because she had concerns about the protections of women and children under the proposed law.

But some posters across different threads keep trying to twist it to be out of hate and bigotry.

Helleofabore · 01/07/2022 23:12

And yes, she has been quite upfront about her approach to abortion which is also much more nuanced than some posters like to admit.

Rookieoftheyear · 01/07/2022 23:23

Why “Prosecco stormfront”? I think I must have missed something.
