We must be going to different pride parades then because the last one I was at was about 50/50 men/women.

Rainbow capitalism is an issue but it's not nearly as big an issue as the bigotry displayed by the noble Baroness.

No, rainbow capitalism is a much bigger issue (because it deals with many companies and many millions of pounds) than the historical voting patterns of one person. But again you just want to derail the thread and not talk about the actual flags flying.

KittenKong · 02/07/2022 13:23

I wish all the owe ally people would fight for disability rights. I really do. My sister is terminally ill and almost blind - I don’t see and allies crying over her.

The Jubilee flags that famous transwoman India Willoughby found oppressive and fascistic?

Exactly this, it is these hypocrites who remain silent or express such love for these Progress++ Pride flag flying.

For all the straight people attending, are they actually practising cultural appropriation? Many of them support gay rights until someone in their family or circle of friends is gay, and then all of the discrete homophobia comes out. "I love gay people, but I wouldn't want any in my family", "I love gay people, but I wouldn't date a bisexual".

I've seen a lot of ally-ship that actually masks homophobia. Not surprising that we see a lot of "trans the gay away".

Feh. Let them have their parade and pain their faces with rainbows. I assume they will the there next time my sister gets a kicking?

The flag flying is great! I think London looked wonderful all dressed up to celebrate pride and the marvellous contribution LGBT people make to British society!

KittenKong · 02/07/2022 13:33

why - they are flying a flag with an icon those with DSD have begged not to have? Be kind my bahookie.

KittenKong · 02/07/2022 13:34

Contribution LGBT people (you forgot the rest of them)? How condescending.

LGBT people do indeed show solidarity to other LGBT people when they are subjected to violence.

This is just one example:

Actual homophobia is a much bigger issue than rainbow capitalism.

could Someone please explain what all the colours of the original pride flag represent and what all the colours now represent? I was in John Lewis a few days ago and looked at the enormous flag and couldn’t figure out who each stripe is meant to be for?

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 02/07/2022 14:07

There appears a concerted effort to defend Nicholson and to condemn critics for having the gall to point out what she has said repeatedly about gay rights and the positions she has adopted in parliament

There appears to be a concerted effort to avoid talking about the flags and to condem posters on the thread for agreeing on this one issue with the baroness

KittenKong · 02/07/2022 14:08

Overall - everyone. Which is why all the additions (slowly pushing the original ones off the flag) makes little sense

Baroness Nicholson doesn't like the LGBT community and therefore doesn't like our flag - quelle surprise !

This doesn't make any sense. How do those flags represent the contribution LGBT people to British society? The Progress++ Pride flag is an international flag. When Regent street had NFL flags did they represent the marvellous contribution of NFL players to British society?

The flag now includes intersex people (who apart from the artist, do not want to be classified as LGBT particularly as the majority of intersex people are heterosexual).

The flags recognise the contribution of LGBT people in a similar way that wearing a poppy recognises the contribution of the Armed Forces (that too is an international symbol btw, go to Canada in November).

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 02/07/2022 14:57

Poppies? Interesting comparison.

Have you not noticed how every November turns into a ding-dong fight over poppy-wearing, and whether it's still a choice to wear one? Have you never noticed any anger from ex-soldiers about politicians who wear poppies while failing to do anything for veterans?

Veterans are overrepresented in our homeless population, which means that every November as the nights draw in and the temperatures slide down the thermostat, people make a display of wearing poppies while walking past homeless veterans in the street. It's all a big subject of debate every year.

Obviously you missed all that, and made the apt comparison by chance.

RufusthefIoraImissingreindeer · 02/07/2022 15:05

I don't really understand why the gay pride flag has extra colours

I would have thought that those people apparently represented by those colours were already included in the original rainbow 🌈

What "contribution" do any LGBT people make to anything that is solely due to their LGBT status, and not just down to them as a person like any other?

FigRollsAlly · 02/07/2022 15:10

I heard the intersex artist being interviewed on BBC News earlier today (there was a problem with the connection so viewers could hear her but not see her). She talked about how amazing it was to see intersex people included in the flag and moved on to talking about her “trans siblings” and then how we had “exported homophobia to the Commonwealth”. When the interviewer had to say time was up I’ve never seen such fear of causing offence, even when discussing other sensitive issues. The interviewer not only said the standard “sorry we’ve got to stop because we’ve run out of time but thank you very much” but also “just to be clear, I’m not being rude but time is up”. The artist didn’t interject or try to continue so why did the interviewer fear being accused of rudeness?

Yes, the military community and the LGBT have worse outcomes than other groups in society, hence the need for events to support and champion the interests of the communities. Glad you agree, shame the bigoted Baroness doesn't.

We add taste, colour and flair to a world that would be much more dull without us 🌈

Ereshkigalangcleg · 02/07/2022 15:18

So it's all about stereotypes, you mean?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 02/07/2022 15:34

Show me someone who thinks that the possibility of people being lesbian, gay or bisexual adds taste, colour and flair to the world, and I'll show you someone creepily prurient.

Some people are same-sex attracted. Get over it. If Adam's life with Barry or Celeste's marriage to Diana adds "taste, colour and flair" to your life, you need to stop staring at people for being LGB.

KittenKong · 02/07/2022 15:36

I’ll tell my sister ‘ooooh you are so exotic!’ And see how hard she punches me.
