Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Fck it. Just going to identify as agender as a GC feminist.

I'm technically agender anyway as I choose to not believe in gender woo.

If males can infiltrate feminism by saying they're women I'm infiltrating transgendersism by identifying as agender.

If I'm asked my gender identity why shouldn't I say this, it's technically true according to stonewall.

Quite like the idea of being a double agent of sorts....

Could you show me examples of this?

Maybe not those specific ones, but here’s a page showing the great number of things that have been described as transphobic.

I doubt you are honest enough to read it before responding, but please, at least give it a try.

I just dont agree wtih the mocking of trans people. It's that simple.

I've seen people making fun of the language and terminology used within the trans/nb community. I haven't seen any attacks on trans people specifically though? I agree the language surrounding this whole issue is muddy, and obfuscates reality. It IS ridiculous that you can no longer define a woman and that these circular arguments render rational conversation impossible. That deserves mockery imo. But no one has mocked trans people.

but by mocking the ideology, you are mocking them.

So I presume you also object to drag queens and Panto Dames then? Or is mocking women ok in your book? All the male comedians making fun of women, I presume you go and shout at them like you’ve shouted at us?

FemmeNatal · 26/06/2022 17:00

placewherewebelong · 26/06/2022 16:37

Not really. I can't stand this constant assertion that an opinion on a global topic somehow makes you some type of person.

It doesn't.

I might vehemently disagree with people i know about a variety of topics. Doesn't change my opinion of them.

Shutting women up? oh. watch, the wee gang of MN will be after you (oh no they wont, cause its only OK to shut women up when they disagree!)

But you are labelling everyone with an opinion that you don’t like as transphobic. You are being very hypocritical.

CandyLeBonBon · 26/06/2022 17:04

Nope. I'm drawing attention to the the fact that the language is becoming ever more ridiculous. Pointing that out is not mocking people, it's recognising that the emperor isn't actually wearing clothes at all, and refusing to pretend that he is. That's not mocking that pointing out objective reality.

ThickCutSteakChips · 26/06/2022 17:04

I have been pondering recently, about how social media, and purity spirals, particularly when it comes to trans ideology, are replacing the hole that religion has left.

There are so many parallels, and it's left me wondering if maybe a lot of humans really do need that sort of thing in order to be able to live their lives.

Not being able to question anything, the sacred castes, being told you are a terrible person if you are a non-believer, the sense of 'belonging' that it seems to give people, the mantras, the threats of 're-education' if you are a heretic, the misogyny.....it's all there, its just packaged differently.

CandyLeBonBon · 26/06/2022 17:06

Oh and I mock religious fundamentalist and flat earth ideologies too. I'm sure you're a lovely person but it you spout any if that stuff at me and believe it, I'm going to take it with a large pinch of salt and firmly resolve to not take you seriously.

Could you go through all the PP who accused me of putting words in their mouth and straw manning..and then wonder if thats what you are doing?

ThickCutSteakChips · 26/06/2022 17:07

@placewherewebelong You are in FWR on Mumsnet - calling 'transphobia' here is not going to shut anyone down or have them begging for forgiveness. Most of us have been here too long for that crap.

Of course it's true.

That’ll be the disingenuity, the twisting of others words, the goading, the insults and the outright lies.

if you say so.

Oh yes.....yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.

Thank you, this has been percolating in my mind for ages and you've put it perfectly.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 26/06/2022 17:18

That's a really good point. There must be a need within us, as it's such a universal experience over time and space.

I think so. I really think that some people need religious beliefs and practices. This is an aspect of human culture which has been present in every time and place. It seems that we can’t do without it and when the old ones die out new ones emerge.

If only it were possible to take the good parts of religion which satisfy the needs many people have and leave the more harmful parts. It never seems to exist in an entirely benevolent way, at least not for long.

Belovedfool · 26/06/2022 17:23

It's always corrupted at some point, isn't it? I suspect that's what we call "human nature". The theory is good, but in practice we are, essentially, just like all the other elements of the living world, plant and animal - all scrabbling over each other to try to get to the light and food. It's pretty basic, when it comes down to it.

Amazing how they are always, always, deeply misogynistic.

I think the endless flags and categorising of people is a symptom of neirodiversity.

It’s a way of signalling “ I am this therefore I need that “

people are hard to figure out - but if you know their flag, their favourite Pokémon, their anime crush and what colour their hair is today - well, you don’t need to worry so much about confusing facial expressions and oblique language with bemusing tone.

Y'what?!

I'm autistic and GC, don't relate to this at all and find it pretty bloody patronising.

On another thread, someone being equally patronising suggested that autistic people are so black and white in their thinking that they assume liking things generally associated with the opposite sex, must mean that someone really is that opposite sex.

I'm autistic, not stupid.

I and my autistic friends see endless shades of grey. Our thinking is not remotely black and white. That's the problem - we see all the myriad possibilities, but find it tricky to identify which is 'correct' in the opinions of the people around us.

I know there is a link between autism and identifying as transgender, but I do wish people wouldn't theorize based on simplistic stereotypes of autistic people.

Belovedfool · 26/06/2022 17:31

I'm no theologian, but it doesn't bode well from the outset, does it. Eve is blamed, right from the get go. This is a massive stretch but I wonder how many women internalise the "Eve ate the apple so her greed caused the downfall of mankind" into the idea that girls should hide their hunger? Greed seems to be acceptable (to a certain degree) in males but not in females.

FemmeNatal · 26/06/2022 17:34

That whole story is messed up. The serpent was the one telling Eve the truth, God outright lied to her, telling her that the fruit would kill her.

The serpent told her that no, it would give her knowledge, which it did, but for some reason is painted as the bad guy.

Metabigot · 26/06/2022 17:35

I have a neurodiverse condition and resent the conflation of nd with transgenderism.

I can fully understand the wanting to be accepted for being different but this is barking up the wrong tree surely?

Do you have any ideas why there is such a large correlation? Interested in your view on it as an autistic woman.

VestofAbsurdity · 26/06/2022 17:36

Interesting we've had at least three posters in recent days tone policing us and wanting us to be kind. Nope, my kindness left the building a long time ago I have zero intention of being kind to people who demand the embedding of an ideology that will strip away my rights and then threaten to rape or kill me for refusing to lie down and acquiesce to their demands.

The ideology itself is not only nonsense but it is dangerous nonsense, it cannot even be defined, there is no logical or substance to it, and I will mock those parts of it that are mock worthy such as the ludicrous over 100 genders made up of meaningless terms and verbiage.

Call me what you like, think what you like about me for having that opinion @placewherewebelong I frankly don't give a toss, your opinion of me matters not one iota.

its done, like with GD, to suggest that if you aretrans there must be something else.
