If the legal advice is any good the staff will be issued with an internal gag order limiting them to direct any and all who mention the subject to a few named staff in the legal department.
The legal advice will probably be don't apologise or admit to anything untill legally compelled to do so.
The legal team can't do much about the personal comments by elected officials. However their officers Insurance provider may have an opinion on what are official policy statements and which statements are the personal opinions of the elected members.
The Council twitter account appears to have issued positive PR statements and attributed the statements (and achievements) to individual elected members rather than a "We the Council". IMO that should be against the media policy.
