Morning everybody! Lovely quiet weekend wasn't it? No, I didn't look at Twitter actually.

Said the legal staff as they arrived for the emergency meeting.
Little did they know of the horror that awaited in the conference room.

Tune in after news at 11 to find out what happens next.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 27/06/2022 09:52

they are utterly blind to history despite constant claims to be in its right side.

Are they though? Remember when they projected onto the Ministry of Justice the clanging 1984esque "Repeat After Us, Trans Women Are Women"? It strikes me as a message of dominance of the public realm.

Ooh! That posted too soon.

I mean look at the pictures in the posts just above... ALL Nazi imagery repurposed. I find that really chilling to see, it say so much about those who 'decorated' that space - they are utterly blind to history despite constant claims to be in its right side.

LFs Nazi flag reference seems to be a response to this Nuremberg recreation!

LF's Nazi imagery came just a day after a shooting at a Norwegian gay bar: www.reuters.com/world/europe/two-dead-several-wounded-norway-nightclub-shooting-police-say-2022-06-25/

The deputy leader of his Reclaim Party Martin Daubney is at it too.

Really distasteful.

ScreamingMeMe · 27/06/2022 11:45

Yeah that is out of order.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 27/06/2022 11:48

Really distasteful

It’s extremely grating to see an expert on punter websites repeat the word “distasteful.”

And whatever else anyone could say about Fox, I don’t think you could accuse him of supporting “radicalised Islamists” like the one who shot up the bar. Ridiculous attempt at a gotcha.

Fluffymule · 27/06/2022 11:49

Will be interesting to see if Nottingham Council issue a statement apologising and admitting they were wrong and breached the law in an attempt to limit legal action by Julie - or whether they assume the legal action is coming whatever they do, so stay silent to not further dig their hole any deeper.

I guess their lawyers will be busy bees today.

FOJN · 27/06/2022 11:53

The Andrew Doyle/Sarah Phillimore interview was excellent. Sarah is always so clear when she discusses these issues.

Rachel Rooney highlighting the hypocrisy and incoherence.

twitter.com/RooneyRachel/status/1541015340532076545?s=20&t=qm76Qr2vQZxy8vPiN2iPoQ

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 27/06/2022 12:00

I still can’t quite believe that the Rainbow Dildo Monkey really happened. Was there any consequence from that? Did anyone get fired? Did they even apologise?

It occurs to me that public libraries are not doing a great job of making the case for themselves and their continued funding at the moment. I hope they manage to correct their course before it ends up like the BBC, with the entire institution under serious threat and most of their natural supporters feeling ambivalent about that.

Imnobody4 · 27/06/2022 12:07

Perhaps Andrew Doyle could invite Ruth Smeeth (Index on Censorship) onto his show to discuss the censorship of feminists. She wrote a puff piece on Pride in her blog but says nothing about the silencing of women.

Fluffymule · 27/06/2022 12:24

ScreamingMeMe · 27/06/2022 08:08

Sarah Phillimore was on Andrew Doyle's show to discuss this:

twitter.com/andrewdoyle_com/status/1541151176242110466?t=mFahqH-Y3sSQgTvDszsYiQ&s=19

I just watched this, it was an excellent piece from Sarah. So glad she was given a decent length of time to cover this, so she could be explicit and clear in all her points.

Both Andrew and Sarah highlighted how, once again, the trail leads back to Stonewall. Both pointing out that companies and organisations who allow themselves to be driven by Stonewall doctrine in this manner are putting themselves at legal, financial and reputational risk.

Hello everyone, just a gentle reminder to please not go off topic on threads, it has a tendency to derail them.
Best wishes,
MNHQ

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 27/06/2022 12:34

I don't actually care how many flags are put up for Pride events. But given everyone is arguing over what level of emotional response it's reasonable to have when you see the flags, let's consider this.

Some people have a lower tolerance level for large numbers of the same flag, on the same street. I don't feel it, but I don't think any of the people who do are bigoted. Including India. But if India's not bigoted, then nor is anyone who objects to equivalent numbers of a different flag.

I delated that crap from my brain....🤯 now I’m angry again but it’s interesting to revisit in the light of all the flags that have appeared recently.

Mmm! You are right, of course. It's just hard to think of this as all being very deliberate.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 27/06/2022 12:45

Ah come on marg you know that you are conflating, twirling, dancing around issues trying to make something into something else.

We are women, not fuckwits! Your constant attempts to show of your superior attitude and knowledge are, as always, more amusing than taken seriously.

But yes, as @PipMumsnet derailers gonna derail! I could wish for a Mute option Grin

If the legal advice is any good the staff will be issued with an internal gag order limiting them to direct any and all who mention the subject to a few named staff in the legal department.

The legal advice will probably be don't apologise or admit to anything untill legally compelled to do so.

The legal team can't do much about the personal comments by elected officials. However their officers Insurance provider may have an opinion on what are official policy statements and which statements are the personal opinions of the elected members.

The Council twitter account appears to have issued positive PR statements and attributed the statements (and achievements) to individual elected members rather than a "We the Council". IMO that should be against the media policy.

Yes I imagine so. I expect JB will update re her dealings with them in due course though.

Was that real? I took it to be photoshopped. Blinkin' heck, it's chilling if real. The heavy weight of ideology trying to crush reality dissenters.

No its not 'shopped, here's a different view;

Apologies if my post on LF distracted from the thread's topic.

I am interested in whether Councils do have a right to refuse planned speeches on their premises on certain grounds, I don't know who is in the right/wrong here.

SamphirethePogoingStickerist · 27/06/2022 16:11

Yes you do. marg it's quite simple.

  1. Nothing about trans was on the schedule
  2. Freedom of speech
  3. Gender politics
  4. Intimidation of LA and women
  5. The law!
