Thank you, @lovelyweathertoday . I'm glad! So glad!

Scarletandtheblack · 26/06/2022 09:36

Following all of this open mouthed at the council's actions - will be very interested to hear if there will be any statements from them tomorrow.

TastefulRainbowUnicorn · 26/06/2022 09:42

I wonder if the question of legality even occurred to the councillors who’d issued that statement.

Or if it did occur to them, but they’d been lied to about the law.

Feckedupbundle · 26/06/2022 09:48

The whole debacle is frustrating but glorious at the same time. The Streisand effect to a T.
What wouldn't I give to be a fly on the wall of Nottingham Council legal dept on Monday morning?

SausageAndCash · 26/06/2022 09:48

A library banning a writer?

Do the CAC know about this? Or Index on Censorship?

TheBiologyStupid · 26/06/2022 02:03

Stupid as well as nasty is a very dangerous combination.

Absolutely - and one very common on the TRA side of the issue.

Absolutely. I'm now getting to the point of thinking that utterly stupid posts (like the ones above by the fly-by ploppers) just need to be met with 'nonsense' and the conversation moved on. There's so many people on Twitter as well who will just keep on repeating stupid, nasty stuff. They're too entrenched in their nonsense for any proper discussion to be had. Discussions for the sake of lurkers, yes but engagement with the ploppers directly is just shouting into the void.

Imnobody4 · 26/06/2022 10:23

Rather ironic. I very much want to see Ruth Smeeth condemn Nottingham Council. Julie could equally deserved to be called an angelic troublemaker. The council references Pride, this is relevant , if she wants credibility she needs to speak out now.

If "Pride" is a political movement the Council are ranking political beliefs into allowed party memberships and not allowed party memberships and SW gets classified as a political lobby group.

I’ve seen catherina on here for ages, always moaning about the latest feminist lawsuit , as if women don’t have the right to vindicate their rights in the court. Yes, of course women are going to keep taking these breaches of the law to court. It works, it gets publicity, it strengthens our legal protections. I’m sorry we don’t just ineffectually have tantrums on Twitter and actually get shit done.

MargaritaPie · 26/06/2022 12:15

Ramblingnamechanger · 26/06/2022 01:57

But I bet they will have a drag queen story time to amuse the kids in the summer hols.

A politician in America is working on putting a stop to that.

No idea who that politician is but she might have a very good reason for that.

Yup. It's like the anti women activists (including the usual suspects on here) who keep spamming IamSarah with comments like 'just use another service which has women only rape support groups if you aren't happy with 'inclusive' women's groups!!!' and she yet again points out that there aren't any in Sussex. That's the point. Or the ones who simply ignore the fact she isn't asking for the existing groups which are mixed sex to be stopped, she's asking for an additional single sex group to be added.

Women are actually fighting for their rights and services and getting shit done and it gets right up the noses of the footstampers.

RhannionKPSS · 26/06/2022 12:34

CatherinaJTV · 25/06/2022 14:21

just sue libraries, because we have too many of them anyway and they are so generously funded and all. Such a good look (after sueing the equally well endowed rape crisis centre - nods).

What ? You mean Sarah taking a stance with regards Brighton Rape crisis Centre not offering single sex counseling... something she & other women have the rights to expect.
No one will she the library you fool , it’s the council!

RhannionKPSS · 26/06/2022 12:37

Good luck and best wishes to Sarah and to Julie. They have many , many women right beside them and frankly you Catherina , hen , can FOTTFSOF !

Most of us do know about MTG so don’t think we aren’t aware . She is a particularly nasty piece of work, however I find it very interesting that a hard right wing, gun toting woman appears to be the only one who is willing to do something about this appalling lack of boundaries & safe guarding.

MargaritaPie · 26/06/2022 13:13

What about Pantomimes which millions of children go to watch every festive period?

Actors cross-dressing for plays and Pantomimes isn't anything new, it goes back many thousands of years.

The historical echo of the removal of the women from public life and paid employment.

Assuming that Rolf Harris isn't playing Widow Wankey [sic] then pantomime dames don't really do much harm.

Misstache · 26/06/2022 16:25

There’s lots of people I would be disgusted by giving a talk in my local library, and people are free to peacefully protest speakers (without intimidating or obstructing them or attendees) or hold counter events, but we all should be concerned about a council stepping in to override what a library offers and vetoing public events. If they can ban Bindel, another council could come in and ban talks against any issues like police violence, immigration, abortion, workers rights, socialism, etc etc. It sets a terrible precedent and even people who strongly disagree with Bindel and hate what she says should see that.

Haven't TRAs worked out yet that intersex is a biological condition and neither a sexual orientation nor some surgical idiocy that you have voluntarily inflicted on your own body? FFS.
