I think it’s not that uncommon for people to get Julie Bindel confused with Julie Burchill. I’ve come across that confusion “in real life”.
I think Julie Bindel doesn’t get that much mainstream coverage whereas Julie Burchill did used to get mainstream coverage. So when the general public hear mention of a controversial Julie, they’re probably more likely to have heard of Julie Burchill.
So you’ve got: tireless and fearless lifelong actual campaigner against male violence against women, prostitution, and pornography = doesn’t get much coverage in the male dominated and generally misogynistic mainstream media.
versus
writer/provocateur with a “takes no prisoners” writing style = media profile.
Which says something about society/ media.
If the people responsible for getting the talk on male violence against women cancelled did so because they don’t know the difference between Julie Burchill and Julie Bindel, it shows how much of this is bandwagon jumping / performance activism: no actual knowledge or research required, just get in there quick with the wrong-think cancellation.
